This video needs way more views. EVERY INDUSTRY PROFESSIONAL NEEDS TO WATCH THIS. This should be essential viewing prior to attending any sort of schooling. No joke. I was a character artist in the industry for almost 10 years before I quit to start my own business. While I don't have any intentions of returning to the industry it was SO VALIDATING to hear what you had to say. I've shared this on Twitter and I have friends still in the industry that I will be sending this to. Thank you so much for putting this out there! I'm really glad to have come across your channel this morning!

This is so true. It's hard to find a balance between work and personal life! It's also important to save all the money that you can. Because as an artist you don't know when and how much time you will be unemployed. Thanks for sharing :D

YES! God, yes, everything here is correct. I’ve also worked for about a year now professionally and can contest this is very honest and realistic.
I agree that having connections do give you an advantage. Also, it's good not to be cocky as you advance in your career.
God bless you making this video. I graduated 2 years ago and still looking for a job for 3d modeling/character modeling or illustration. You gave good insight and what i should prepare myself when i get in. Pray someone gives me the chance. Lately been feeling down and doubting my ability. I should keep trying and continue my craft. 😊

Nepotism and connections was always one of the things that scared me about th ent industry as a whole when I was a teen until I learned that this type of work environment in any field is kinda unavoidable. I know they’re super different but of the seven min wage, low paying jobs I’ve held since I was 18, at least five of them were run by these family mafias lol. Brothers , sisters, partners and even parents all predominantly owning a cheesy rundown franchises. I can imagine a much more competitive field. Ty for your insight.
Funny I feel like this advice can go for any job environment right now.
Sometimes I watch these videos, and I'm like "uh oh, sounds like the animation industry is tough!" But then it's like oh wait, this probably applies to most industries anyway, so who cares, might as well be educated about it, and still try to break in because I'd rather do this than something else haha
You are absolutely doing more than a lot of animation degrees out there with this channel! For those thinking animation is a horrible work based on this video, chances are it is actually not for you, and that’s perfectly ok! Working in animation can actually be fantastic, you learn so much of the behind the scenes and that will up your skills A LOT; but just as it’s mentioned throughout the video, it’s a very structured environment, which can be good or bad depending on your personality. Also, yes! Humbleness will take you a long way not just in this industry, but in anything you do :)
THIS! It’s all about being prepared going into the industry. Save your passion for your own projects and let work be just that, work :)

I agree completely, sometimes to even things out it is better to think of it as a JOB, when you already have too much passion and you end fighting 5he storyboard guy and the lighting guy. Also thinking of it as a Craft helps me, as Art is so personal... 👍

O MY GOSH.... this is such a good video,, im still a ways away from even getting into an animation college but this is so good. working in animation is definitely not what i wouldve ever planned when i was like 5 or something. Thank you so much! im excited to learn everything needed in the industry :)
Thank you for making this video!! I've been working in the industry for about 9 months and I'm now facing my second lay-off at the same studio, due to budgeting and projects not coming through, lack of pitches etc. This video found me at the absolute right time so THANK YOU! I also agree with all of the points you stated, and I personally am so glad that I've been able to make more connections with other artists and animators, who are all rallying behind me to try and help get me a new gig. And if all else fails and I'm unemployed again for a bit, I can work on my skills and my own projects. I needed the reminder, thank you!

It's like, the first one set up hope, and this one helped keep me grounded, y'know? Chase your dreams, but remember that a job is a job and it won't always be sunshine and rainbows. Thank you for sharing. I mostly agree with you based on my experience. The most important aspect for newcomers entering this industry is often idealism. It's not just about you; it's about how the job gets done, and ultimately, everything revolves around revenue. I've personally moved past that mindset, and now my focus is solely on earning money. I apologize for any previous disagreement, but I firmly believe that compensation should be based on the work you've accomplished rather than what you like or feel passionate about
I don't want to be rude, but how on hearth do you go into a animation job, one of those dream jobs, with expectations that is going to be rainbows and whatnot? Its a job you always dreamed off, you better go in there and work like crazy to show that you are qualified for that job.
I see a lot of young "professionals" entering the industry, and spend 3 hours joking and talking about movies on Discord, not time management, like in their first months, and I'm thinking...where is the commitment? where is that feeling of : I want to show these people that I actually DESERVE this job.
Redo this vid after working ten more years in the industry.
