Here are the ugliest cars of ALL the current teams for reference: ua-cam.com/video/oYFmRw5d9y0/v-deo.html Thanks to Blakesedit for clarifying the E22 tusks, they were ruled out by the FIA for 2015...probably for the best.
Perhaps for a future video you could do something along the lines of "The best cars of every F1 team in 2008". It's my favorite era for F1 cars, the complex aerodynamics are just stunning and the cars themselves looked so nimble
Unpopular opinion: The F14-T is one of the more beautiful cars this year, i even have a model of the car standing in my bedroom. This may be my Ferrari bias though..
Am I the only one who actually really likes that Lotus? Yeah it was a bit out there but I found it far easier on the eye than the McLaren or Toro Rosso that year. The fact one tusk was slightly longer was to get around regulations, something to do with the rules requiring the nose to have a single tip so they had to make one slightly longer than the other.
I kinda like the Lotus! The asymmetric nose was necessary because of the regulations not because of some aerodynamics advantages. The best one for me is the Red Bull, was actually a really beautiful car, also the livery is so cool with that purple. The Toro Rosso is by far the ugliest. Now you have to do the same video for the 2012 season!
@@LawVS The specific regulation that the nose needed the asymmetry for was the crash tests; the telemetry sensors for the crash test machinery couldn't detect the point of impact measurements very well due to a lack of initial single focal point when the even-length tusks were put under load.
Those 2010's attempts to lower the nose heights definitely led to some design solutions which for me definitely screamed 'Malicious compliance'. I remember going into 2014 thinking 'Okay, lower noses, so they'll be like the 2009 Brawn, cool... Oh. Okay, Never mind, was Bernie sharing his blue pill stash by accident?' (Apologies for the mental image there... Sincere apologies) For anyone interested, Raian F1 did a pretty good job explaining why those noses wound up as they did, but I'm glad these were abandoned shortly after
I have some nostalgia from these appendages; it was the year I first came into contact into F1 lel Also, one thing left unnoticed was the Catherham nose from the Belgian GP onwards; they came out with an much more smoother design.
It definitely makes for a chuckle at least, but my goodness...at the time, it was a shock! The second Caterham was a smoother looking thing, but I still think it has charm.
hot take: I really like the look of the 2014 caterham. it looks different and angry and angsty. It sure as hell didn't work but i love it for being different. and i love the busy front wing.
I knew that i was recognizing this voice from somewhere. I think i watch DBZA since 2013 Hahahhaah never knew you were an f1 fan too. Cheers from brazil.
I would like you to do something along the lines of this with the 2009 season. I think there are some dramatically ups and downs for cars that season. I love the Red Bull and Ferrari for example. But Force India and Renault are horrendous imo. Could be interesting
Mercedes bent their nose, Ferrari either welded their nose downwards or the car just started melting. Redbull's nose just... meh Lotus liked walruses so much that they gave their cars tusks. Whereas the other cars... My god why did this had to happen... 😭
They had to have a longer tusk because of the regulations. You weren't allowed to have two impact structures at the front so by extending one they circumvented that rule
Thanks for the clarification. I checked my research after the video. But based on their performance that year, they weren't setting the world alight anyway.
How on eart did we move from the clean urly 90's (granted mid 90's gave some ugly cars) to the 2000's (beauties with some exceptions from a few teams depending on the seasons) to the narrow trash cars i just dont understand from 09 till 17(even post 17 the cars have been gigantic) i want to forget all cars.
Technical regulations! After 1994, they started to govern more and more the basic look of cars. Earlier seasons had looser guidelines and teams had more imaginative space to think up new designs, like the 1978 Brabham fan car.
Do one for the year i think the cars were the ugliest, 2009. When thinking about horrible looking cars people think about 2014, no one mentions how terrible the 2009 one were....
The 2014 marussia is my favourite 2014 car Not because of looks It was because of the absolute incredible performance from jules bianchi and of the same year we lost him 💔 Rip Jules we carry on your legacy
Mercedes was ok, the RB was ok, I’m surprised that you like the Sauber, Marussia just makes me sad, Williams has a weak Martini livery imo, Force India makes me queasy and Mclaren makes want to tear my eyes out, Ferrari wasn’t fantastic but was fine, Caterham, uhh… I don’t want to talk about it, the less I want to know about the Toro Rosso and Lotus the better
Ngl the weird 2014 era of suspiciously phallic frontends was something I didn't wince or cringe at. Granted, they were bad (to the point where I wondered if some of the designers were trying to say something or not lol - EDIT: I think they all ha closeted size kinks lol), but I couldn't help but giggle like a little derp every single time I saw one. My teenage brain was definitely on the juvenile side and honestly.... I don't think that ever went away (case in point, every time you yell "Stop it" in a DB video, I just smile like an idiot).
Finally someone adressing the elephant(s) in the room, the DONGMOBILES. God I hated these, they were laughable, granted some got it better than others but holy moly. I'm glad they were done away quickly, tho the platypus noses in 2012 were just as bad as this.
I have no idea what any of the designers were smoking. Regulations said low nose. They could have flipped through their own history books to find the early '90s cars, which looked excellent. Instead they decided they couldn't be bothered to actually redesign their car, and just sliced off the nose and put a pecker on it. Just why?
Penis-nose aside, I think the livery of the Force India in 2014 was the best one they ever had. The 2014 Mclaren though for me was the ugliest F1 car of all time.

Hmm...that could be cool. That year was iconic for the sheer amount of winglets and all.
Yes yes yes I loved those mess of appendage cars

The revised nose on the Caterham later on in the season looked very decent as well
Yes it was a more elegant solution.
The 2014 Toro Rosso is one of my least favorite F1 cars of all time, my goodness
It's so surreal that such cars made it into the light of day!

2:03… Really bad year 😢
The worst. RIP Jules.

I find it charming.
The Belgian gp update on the nose maked it look way smoother. Actually like both versions of it
i don’t mind the the 2014 Ferrari tbh yea it’s a red vacuum cleaner but it’s alot better then others
Not to mention the car itself isn't the easiest to drive.
7:05 I thought it was the regs that stopped them from making the tusks even ?
Ah, yes. Forgot about that. Thanks for the clarification!
@@LawVS even tusks could never have made that ugly thing any better 😂 great video as always !
@@Blakesedit Yes...I can tell that for Lotus, it was quite the arduous...tusk.
@@LawVS also in the first place, one of tusks was longer because of regulations also not aero. FIA wanted the cars to have ONE tip of the nose.
Great video as usual

The noses should have brought back Durex
Edit, holy crap, he actually used that joke in the video.
It was a sponsor for Surtees' team in the 70s. Comeback perhaps?
oh yeah, that's why most all of the 1976 season wasn't aired @LawVS
if u get rear ended by one of those things ur car will become pregnant
Would you though? Because they're looking kinda sad.
I'm sorry, but I won't take the lotus or Ferrari disrespect, I genuinely loved the f14t look, just a shame it wasn't fast
I respect your preference, pal. It just wasn't for me. Thank you for your time.
@@LawVS ye I get that, thanks for the awsome content, you've quickly become one of my fav f1 channels 👍🏾
You're crazy. The splash of purple on the Infiniti livery is beautiful.
As a gradient, it was alright... But as a random shape amongst other motifs was so distracting

@@LawVS To say they had a bad year is a putting it sorta lightly yeah. I’d say it was extremely tragic and depressing
The rear wing is what did it for me, it was far too small and made the overall car look like a toy.
100% agree.
True despair is having a ToroRosso in your back 👀
