While I’m not a fan of the series (it’s okay, just never grabbed me like it did for others) I do believe that this show knew what made the first two films so great to begin with. Sure, we love the time travel, the robots, the action, the futuristic stuff and among others, but it’s the character moments like this that really help give these characters their humanity. John seeing his dad for the first time, Derek’s funny unintentional joke about beer, and the overall emotion carried in this one scene is far more than what we’ve ever gotten in any of the sequels after 2.
This was the coolest scene in the series! I really wish it would have continued! The ending was awesome & it would have been even more awesome to see John fight against the machines with Kyle & Derek!
Thank you so much for posting this. I was on the fence with this show until this episode, and particularly this scene. It's easily one of the best shows on TV right now.
A great bit when Kyle just looks at John, like some how deep inside, he knows. Reminds me of when Woody Harrelson looks at Rosario Dawson at the end of 7 pounds
No matter how many times I see this scene, I always get teary-eyed.
what episode
best scene of all terminator universe

What a great gift.
Derek had to wonder why John Connor looks like Kyle, and now he knows why.
“Happy birthday”
That line STILL chokes me up!
So this is the first time we see John Connor lay eyes on his father. Before I knew about this show, I thought that happened in Terminator Salvation
..and God bless wherever you are Dad happy fathers day X
I love this scene, it's so sad for John... He's full of very different emotions at this moment...
I wish they would bring this back and finish it
A beautiful and powerful scene when John meets Kyle as a child.
Happy birthday to Thomas dekker and myself on 28th dec and for the loss of a father we never met ♥️

Damn. You are the first comment. I wonder if you still have the same account lol
Imagine if one of the geniuses who came up with Tsalv, Tgen and Tdf would have just used this show as a guideline
It would have worked
Beautiful acting by Thomas Dekker at 3:55.
Absolutely. It could so easily have been overdone but he avoided that mistake.
That and episode 19 season 2...
Looking at the comments below I can't believe it's actually been 5 years since this show was on!
Where does the "time" go? LOL!
