Game design, recognizable sounds, hard hitting soundtrack, pure game no interrupting gimmicks. It's a pure perfect game that does what it set to do. Normally HD removes the horror ambiguity. But that removed the relatability to our world. Now you see the humanity more and that makes it so much more horrifying what they are. Great. If it was a triple A: We'll be releasing an HD remake at full prize! But this indie team: Thanks for playing our game, have it again for free.
Finally, DUSK on Windows XP!!! The new animations to go with the new models are what really stand out to me. Also I love that it's "HD" while still having some retro crunch, makes for a different kind of oldschool vibe.

I am so ready. About three years ago I literally packed up everything but my PC until the very last night when I was moving into my first apartment- I was that into this game and that doesn't normally happen for first person shooters!
Honestly I think the original models are scarier probably because they're less refined so I'm wondering half the time just what the hell is it that I'm looking at but when I see the new models with more detail I'm like "Oh, that's what that's suppose to be"
I was a bit hesitant with this update, but when I saw the caked up welder, all my negative thoughts went away. 10/10 update, would replay the whole game again
Huh, seems like everybody here prefers the new look. Personally, I think the higher fidelity subtracts from the feel of the original. It wasn't just the horror inspirations, Dusk's look had a layer of abstraction to it that I think worked wonderfully with the experience. As the game progressed it got crazier, like a fever dream, so, say, not being able to tell what the scientist's face was, exactly, to me, was part of the point - it's this eery abstraction of a person, the horror comes from this constant state of uncertainty. Hell, even the rapid pace of the boomer shooter formula adds to this, always having the player move fast so they can never get comfortably acquainted with the look of the enemies or any particular element of environment. But also, I don't want to shit on the work done, it's a pretty big undertaking with a lot of passion poured into it. Just my personal interpretation.
Agreed. The rat is the best example of this. The new one is just a rat, but look at how unique the original is for a rat enemy, even if they just slide towards you.
