Following six studio albums of funk-driven loungecore, Hospital Records’ head honcho London Elektricity embarks on the boldest musical adventure of his 30-year career with his seventh long-player ‘Building Better Worlds’.
It began in a Forest Hill cafe in 2017 where London Elektricity adoringly browsed through a series of Benjamin Beech’s photography of perfectly untouched, derelict buildings and towns in Japan, Taiwan and China. “Many of the images show what has been, what could have been and what will be. The duality of beauty and melancholia within appealed to me immensely.” Each track was married to a photo, to join the sights to sounds from each of his tales of ‘Building Better Worlds.’
Leading the voyage is the orchestral masterpiece ‘Final View From The Rooftops’, that’s been 13 years in the making and is the “most unusual piece of D+B” [he’s] ever made”, featuring the incredible operatic talent of Cydnei B. ‘Build A Better World’ is a smooth drum & bass sonnet with the vocals of Hospital family favourite Emer Dineen. “The beauty of this song lies in its simplicity, but also its duality. I'll leave you to work out what the lyrics are really about… They are some of the darkest lyrics I've come across in years.”
Another special moment is the feature of London Elektricity’s youngest son, The Secretary-General. The talented nine-year-old takes no ‘Time To Think’ as he flawlessly flows through Inja’s lyrics with the ever-vibrant MC following suit, bringing the track full-circle across generations.
London Elektricity is the mastermind behind classic Hospital albums such as ‘Pull The Plug’, ‘Syncopated City’, ‘Are We There Yet?’, and ‘Yikes’. His latest body of work delves into uncharted depths for a very personal and expressive collection of tracks where drum & bass and live instrumentation meet. London Elektricity can be found showcasing this latest chapter with tours in China, Japan, the UK and Europe throughout 2019.

Is it really uplifting? It makes me think of someone wishing they had been able to stop someone from killing themselves. They made a better world but it’s too late now for the person they loved.
@@danconnor5330 Yes the content is dark and wistful, you’re absolutely right. But the way the vocal is sung, to me is melancholy but looking forward. Now they know what not to do, how to cope better, how to heal and how to help others. They can build a better world now while holding the memories of what’s behind them

Tony Colman's been putting records out since the early 90s. He's just made the finest album of his career. A soulful, playful, lyrical, conceptual beauty. One to play to all them folks who say they don't like drum & bass.

The lyrics are pretty melancholic man
Certainly are. But that’s what attracts me to certain vocalists and lyricists. The convention is to write a song to make people feel good. There are numerous cliches available to do that. But, to make someone feel good by temporarily making them feel the badness in their life is very difficult. But it’s more honest, and for me, inspires me a lot more. It’s basically The Blues.

London Elektricity Building a better world is such a beautiful song and takes on such personal meaning for me. Like any professional artist many sacrifices have to be made on the pathway to success. Time is usually the main issue that those who love the artist have to sacrifice. I find this song to be so beautiful and after hearing it sharing it immediately with my family especially my significant other Christene who has helped support my dream. Not surprising at all London Elektricity hits it out of the park again. Well done Tony ,well done.
