The most notorious combo with cephalid illusionists from this time should be with Nomads en-Kor to mill all the cards in your deck by targeting the illusionist over and over with Nomads ability. With enough creatures in the deck I could imagine going for a lot of mana with Songs of the damned and then drain life would be a posibillity
the farrel's mantle+maze of ith combo doesn't work, 'cause the maze of ith removes the creature from combat, thus its like it was never attacking in the first place
I was looking at Maze of Ith on Gatherer and I noticed a ruling from 2022. "The creature isn't removed from combat; it just has its damage prevented. It's still an attacking creature until the combat phase is complete." Is it possible that this combo did not always work but is now valid post this 2022 ruling?
No paper gameplay, because we haven't picked up all of the cards we need yet. We just fiddle with them on Moxfield. Got a set up we use on Moxfield to play 1-v-1 virtually.
