  • I love the new, edgy, slightly darker vibe in 'More'. This feels like he's experimenting and reinventing himself in the creative process and it's super exciting and interesting to watch.

No wonder k-pop listeners say it's not their style, cause this is not k-pop. It's basically 90's hip hop mixed with some rock elements, it's more like a Korean Cypress Hill than BTS/k-pop :D If people expected this album to sound like BTS (or "Hope World"), then no surprise. This is not to sound rude or something, but many people don't seem to feel it and were surprised, even though J-Hope himself said multiple times before that this will be way darker and a different side of him people don't know yet. For me, J-Hope fits this type of music perfectly and honestly, i expected and wanted something like this from him.

@@alexa-el7pf Which is my point, non k-pop listeners will vibe with it more than k-pop listeners :D I've seen a lot of opinions that it's not really their cup of tea (k-pop fans and BTS fans). Many people like it, but a lot don't. Not because it's a bad song but because they've expected something else. They expected BTS and previous mixtape J-Hope.

Hi, I am back. Good reaction, ty. I missed u. So glad ur doing well and are back. I had fun! My initial reaction was well that was different! Kind of disturbing. I like the freeze parts reminds me of Lights. Noticed Suga's Shadow hallway too. The camera work is very much an echo of Shadow by Suga. I mean they are SOPE. =0} Did not get a chance to read lyrics on the 1st watch. This was my 15th watch. Like the fit and makeup. Had to listen to this a few times to get his msg. Some of the tone was cool. I was thinking this is Jay his other alter ego or Jack as u said. =0p The band look like zombie's to me. Snickers. Fav part was the frozen scene and going through the spilled coffee. =0p So cool. This is rap/rock to me. This not a title track. Title track is Arson. 0.0 We going to have more bangers. Army always saying JHope got no bones well i think he gave us an answer with that X-Rey, lol. Hugs. Love u. -NY USA 2019 Army💟

Hobi likes Dali's work. Dali's work is dark. I love Jose explanation that this is connected to Ego, and he is integrating his Shadow Persona.
    ísis almeida said on 7/2/22
The concept of the mixtape is inspired by the Greek myth "Pandora's box", which basically consists of the idea that there is a box that contains all the bad things in the world, and when the box is opened, all these things go out into the world. And the only thing left inside the box is hope. he's brilliant.

Salvador Dali was known for his eccentric character and unique talent.
"Surrealism is the complete freedom of a human being and the right to dream" (c) Dali
His paintings depict a dream-world in which common objects are deformed and displayed in a bizarre and irrational way in the desolate landscape
also Korean word 달리 [Dali] means "differently"

The whole "Jack in the Box" album is
freaking masterpiece. When you read the lyrics of each track, it hits very differently. He's telling a dynamic story of his past, present, future. He's so incredibly talented, he's really showcasing his skills in a way he was never able to before with his cadence, his flow, his powerful lyrics, the amazing beats, the production! Do not play with this man and his art, he's serious about it, he has went above and beyond! Hoseok outdid himself again. "Hope World" & "Jack in the Box" are so vastly different but clearly from the same man on a journey of experience and self expression. This song gives me a little bit of Hangsang vibes, which is again from "Hope World" so it's also not too surprising to me to see Hobi expressing this side of himself. We all have multiple facets to our personality, and viewing him as only Sunshine is selling this complex man very, very short. I think the big difference in this album from "Hope World" is he is letting us in more, so we can see him unleashed with full creative license. He gave it such a classic, grimy, 90's hip hop vibe, but also incorporating other styles and genres that clearly inspire him, you can hear his influences but it's also so freshly Hoseok! Completely and unapologeticly him! I'm genuinely in love. Now, about Arson, the lyrics are thought provoking and paired with this imagery, Arson is next level stunning! Hobi is really bringing us out of "Hope World", further into the depths of his genius mind. I'm love with all the tracks, especially Equal Sign, Arson, Safety Zone, What If, Future…..well every Jack in the Box track is my favorite until I hear the next one I guess!
Keep streaming the tracks and album Army!!💜💜 Fighting!✊🏻

This track is a mix of grunge and old school hiphop, so if people you talked to are kpop fans no wonder they didn't enjoy it😁 Hobi's entire album is very much inspired by 90s hiphop

I’m glad he pushed himself out of what had become too easy for him. BTS has no where to grow but out of the box. They can’t grow any more musically unless they try things like this. J-Hope was brave to put out music that is so different than the image we have of him. I think he’ll inspire the other members to not just play it safe when they do their own solo projects. The whole album isn’t all dark. But he tried something new so we have to appreciate that.

It is a song about Jhope's passion and ambition and still he wants more performances, more cool things. Everything that was filmed in this music video, is in the box, and in Arson he gets out of the box.. he has explained everything about the album, and the MVs during his vlive for Jack in the box. He suggested listening to his album in order. He also has vlive about the album and the main songs. He definitely deserves to be in the music charts with this song. Watch his explanation about the tracks of the album in his vlive from 55 minutes. I love his creative ideas and his thoughts and the way he represents them to the world. one of my favorite things about jack in the box is hobi's delivery of the lines
for example, in more, when he says "yeah, i'm thirsty, i'm in my element" pay attention to the differentce in tone between these lines on the intro vs outro, on the latter, he sounds so sassy and whiney at the same time, plus his expression and body language with the mic on the music video, adds a new layer to the song
another example is in stop, his delivery of the first lines on the second verse is SOOO unique and give a specific feeling to those lines, which are already meaningful

❤️Always great to see your face. I hope school is going well.
😘 I LOVE this song, I have always loved Punk music. I agree with everything you said. I also think that his choice of using grunge and punk rock symbolises a sort of”rage against the machine”. He has been forced into a box that may not be exactly what he sees himself as an artist, so the use of a musical form that was all about rebellion makes so much sense to me. It shatters what people expect completely, like the glass in the MV. There is no shying away from what it is. Like others have commented it’s very 80’s and 90’s like Beastie Boys, Folk Implosion and Limp Bizkit. It also stays true to BTS’s origins as a Hip Hop group. They understand the origins of that type of music (like when you watched American Hustle Life) I find something very freeing about being able to throw yourself into the chorus and I just love it to dance to, but I do understand that I am older and have a penchant for music like this reminds me of my youth. Wait till you see Arson. Extremely old school Hip Hop. I am not really shocked about this choice of style, remember them dancing to Rollin by Limp Bizkit? He knew all the words and the way he threw himself into the dance, to die for. And even Jungkook has a Nirvana quote as a tattoo. I am so happy that he can continue to stretch the envelope and break the mold. 😘💜🖤🤘🏻
Next time you have a few drinks just put this on and just let your body dance, any way you want to move. It’s so Hobi, because you become happy if you dance it with abandon. 🤩

Hi) Hoped you would react to Hobi's new work) Sure BTS fans got surprised. Who knew he would go for rock?! I actually feel that both More and Arson are much more my style than I would think they would be. And the more I listen to them the more I like them. I actually love him doing rock and all this bad boy vibe he is giving me. He always had it in him. He will attract more other fans of rock and hip-hop with his new music for sure, which is cool) You should try his whole new album if you prefer him doing lighter or more melodic songs. You will love his vocals there as well. All his songs are rather different though follow same theme. Best album of the year for me personally. But there is no much use to listen to it without watching his interview where he explains all the idea of creating such an album and goes through all the songs and what he meant by writing each of them. Thanks for your reaction

It's so exciting to see you back on UA-cam!
This was a pre-release track from Hoseok's newly released album "Jack In The Box." "Jack In The Box" is an album where we really get to see the darker, more vulnerable side of Hoseok. The idea of "Jack In The Box" is related to Pandora's Box from Greek Mythology and ties into the idea that once Pandora opened the box, the only thing left was hope. We can also interpret it as Hoseok stepping out of the box that he has been boxed into and showing us a different side of himself.
Hoseok was deeply involved in basically every facet of the making of this album, from the album concept (the album follows a cohesive story/theme), lyric writing, production, cover art, directing the music videos, the visuals and planning process.
I find it honestly so admirable that Hoseok chose to be true to his artistry and release a very experimental, non-commercial track rather than something popular that would chart easily. On top of that, he deliberately has no features on the album, completely reinvents his image, and will perform it all for the first time at a festival (i.e. Lollapalooza) where you're not guaranteed your core listener/fanbase. In his own words: “I chose Lollapalooza because I wanted to test my limits. I wanted to perform my music in front of people who love music, even if they’re not my fans. Even if the feedback is positive or negative, I really want that feedback - so I can grow."
I just respect this man so much. He is a true artist who really lives and breathes for his craft, and despite how talented and seasoned he already is, he still has an endless thirst for self-improvement and growth. Hoseok has mentioned before how much research he puts into his lyric writing and that really shines through on this album. The wordplay, the references to mythology, the cohesiveness between the tracks... this is such a well-crafted album. Truly a masterpiece. I'm excited for you to experience it.
On a side note, just so you know, "eenie, meenie, miney, moe" originates from ancient Celtic rituals of sorting out who would be chosen to die as sacrifice. In this theory, the words come from the Celtic countdown, “one, two, three, four.” Thus the line, "dancing baby flow" is him killing his 'baby flow' and moving on as he is full of passion and still isn't satisfied with himself yet.

Most of the visuals in this video are references to the movie, "Fight Club". If you're like me and have never seen it, you wouldn't have any way of knowing that. That's why some of the visuals don't really make sense.. The plot of that movie, especially the twist at the end, serve to kind of explain what J-Hope is really trying to say with this song. I'm really looking forward to your reaction to the whole album. My favorite song is "Equal Sign". I'm curious as to what your favorite song will be. I actually love the grungy rock vibes un the chorus, I got nostalgia for the music I listened to in my teen years and I very much admire Hoseok going with his gut and kicking off his Chapter 2 with something so different from what most of us exoected.
This has been inside him waiting for a chance to be explored and brought out into the world and he did it, I find him so inspiring, brreaking out of the box even I as a fan had put him in.
I expected upbeat dance pop with choreo and perhaps more than one feature with another artist on the album, but Jack In The Box is all him and such a cohesive work from beginning to end. I highly reccomend listening to the full album. We get glimpses of who we've known him as but he's evolved and grown so much, loved it and a great running start to their solo projects!

for me this has been one of the few bts's recent releases that i immediately loved 100% in the first listen, this song was literally flawless imo, so it's funny to me that some people weren't as pumped about this as i was lmao
edit: also, hope you're doing good! it's been a while but we missed you :3

Hahaha you’re expression when JHope first appears and says, “yeah, I’m thirsty”…priceless! And every time you paused you could almost see your mind trying to formulate a proper response beyond, “Okay. Okay”. You may not have been into the grunge/rock bits, but you were definitely grooving to the hip hop lol! Thanks so much for this, your reactions always make me smile and often make me laugh out loud!

In his "Jack in the box" he has an intro where it is told about Pandora's box. The only thing left in the box was hope. In his interview about the album he said that all the songs and his mixtape were made inside the box, they are hopeful and bright and positive songs. Now this album is made out of the box. The songs show his dark side, his anger, passion, ambition and concerns.

6:42 the funny lyrics "Eenie, Meenie, Miney, Moe" is part of an old american children's song and has been used in Hip hop/ rap for a long time. I had no ideia, but I did a little research and this is the information I found.

Hey, Hanna! So nice to see you again ❤. I hope everything is going just great for you. I was also struck by how experimental the MV is. I love the song, although it might be a little bit of a grower. The lyrics are meaningful and the progression of the song is unexpected. The concept behind it is very creative and the whole album is great. There are different styles and genres in it. I'm really proud of J-Hope. PS. Did you see V in one of the "frozen" scenes in the office?
