My big problem is neca changed their bread and butter line from alien and predator to TMNT. Ever since that happened they’ve only put out the occasional alien and predator each year whilst TMNT gets all the attention. It’s probably fair since they did get a lot of mileage out of the line and I’m happy for TMNT fans who are getting figures they could only dream of as kids. But it still hurts that they are neglecting the AVP line more and more. The new feral predator does give me hope that things will improve though.
Great video. I'm collecting their great new Universal Monster line. I think it's the best iteration of these classic horror characters. They all come with great figures and accessories and the even releasing playsets for them.
NECA knows it's base level is horror figures. that's what funds these other lines. Hellraiser is what put them on the map and nothings really changed since then. they make the best 7" horror figures and as long as they keep selling, you'll keep seeing them try other lines.
I think D&D may do better if the next two figures are first LJN wave and are at least one good character. Also they could consider doing some of the LJN bendable monsters. They could be less articulated as long as they are in scale. A bullywog or goblin army builder could go a long way.
We could say that Neca is the Netflix of the toy industry. Once they see there isn't profit in a line, they cancel it without any warning. A very smart move as a business company in my opinion.
I DON'T collect for value. If you think it's hypocritical then you just don't understand. I wish figures would always go down in price. That way people that miss out can still get them later without having to resort to scalpers. I've never sold a figure. I've given plenty away, but never sold any.
I buy them for my boys, ages 9 and 10. I've bought them each about 12 figures from NECA. Aliens, predators, Halloween and Friday the 13th. I bought myself the "American Werewolf in London" figure.
Exactly. I collect cause I want to own representations for media I love. I feel like collecting for “value” is the equivalent of having an exit strategy. I just can’t really see how you can love the hobby truly that way.
Super7's $55 price compared to a similarly sized action figure for $25 or $30 is simply not going to sell considering that the quality is not phenomenally better.
Going deep with many of these movies toy lines will mostly provide civilian character action figures. These are great for setting up dioramas with heroes and villains battling each other with civilians cought in the corss-fire. The priority is the main heroes and villains. All the figures are expensive which limits how much people can or will buy. The window of availability is too small for most people to really be able to collect the action figures beyond the priorities. It's a sad situation with many missed opportunities.
The Kurt Cobain NECA from the 2000's is also a very rare and expensive figure on the aftermarket. The new Bon Jovi got me thinking they might do an ultimate of the Kurt at some point.
I dont think ANY figures sell in the million(s) range anymore. From what I understand, a hugely popular line may sell around 200k units. Most popular boutique toy lines sell under 10-15k figures. That's factual btw. I also have a thought on NECA & the "Dinosaurs" line. I would guess it has something to do w/ getting in w/ Disney and building their relationship. NECA's always been super creative w/ getting licenses from companies; especially in prior yrs when it wasn't as easy as it is now. F.i. they got the TMNT GAME license to make video game turtles figs for ComicOn one year, which lead to Playmates being impressed w/ thier work (and it gave them and idea of sales potential/how it might effect THEIR sales & so on) so they then started slowly allowing them to make more turtles figures. I would also gamble on the Dinosaurs license being much cheaper than about all the other DISNEY lines. Just a hunch. Thanks for your hard work
I was disappointed when they canceled their Jaws sheriff Brody figure. The face was spot on, which I guess was the issue for them. I am enjoying their Gargoyles line though, and I kinda want them to do The Pack as well.
@@troyruszkowski7371 Yeah, I researched wtf happened when I noticed that my preorder vanished from existence. It's so annoying when an official brand makes a super accurate face sculpt only for something to come along and ruin the fun. Like, I was about to order the Exo-6 Captain Archer because I love Scott Bakula. And then I found out there was a much more accurate prototype head with regular hair instead of that weird chia pet buzz cut. I saw what could've been, and what they gave us was so much worse. Apparently Bakula wanted the current hairstyle for some reason.
To revitalize TMNT they simply need to re-release the older ones for new fans and collectors to get in on the ground floor. Some or many collectors don't want to have incomplete collections so they might not even start collecting if they feel they can't get the whole collection for reasonable prices.
i moved away from collecting most action figures in favour of collecting small scale statues like iron studios and kotobukiya artfx+. but i still buy neca figures and other figures in the same scale (1/10 ish). its a nice balance between scales and cost.
Companies don't ever want to say they are "done" with a line. That would seem to raise the stigma of failure for a company and might make it harder for them to sell more products in the future. Who wants to waste time on failures?
NECA's bread and butter are their horror lines, some of the other lines are ok but as long as they keep releasing great horror lines they'll be just fine! I collect everything horror they release and absolutely 0 of the other stuff even though the TMNT lines are amazing, there's only so much room on the shelves! They need to release Friday the 13th part 8, X, and JGTH figures!
Guess this only matters in certain cities * side characters are "Grails" Not knowing characters is meaningless to NECA, matters to me. The collector or fan
I also don’t understand why they don’t stick with ultimates. The suited beetlejuice was missed opportunity…I see the graveyard one which is amazing but still…they can make soo many off of originals
@@jeffalbillar7625 That one sounds like a really obscure character that I'm not familiar with. None of the stores around me are very good for this kind of thing.
The problem with the limited quantities of "collectible" action fiugres is that the companies can't get new money coming in. Who wants to pay hundreds of dollars for blobs of plastic and paint? Everyone is better off with very good sturdy quality products that will last and last and are also produced in large quantities so new fans and collectors have an opportunity to have their own affordable collection in reasonable time frames.
Great topic to discuss which needs speaking on. I'm still waiting for NECA to make Ultimate Predators Wolf, Scar, AVP Elder - PreAlien and Engineer. But yeah, they're milking the TMNT line.
Super 7 does even better TMNT imho and I have the entire core collection of figures. But that´s just what Super 7 do, they are not much into the deep, obscure characters from the show.....yet. ;)
Are action figures advertise beyond the small group of adult collectors who actively seek out news about action figures? How do any of these companies expect to stay in business without attracting new fans and customers?
Price wise, Neca are killing themselves in the Australian market - most figures sell for $99.99 here. Before delivery. That’s about $70-75USD. I have ended up “piling my loot” with BBTS for a MUCH better deal. When I had 4 Gargoyles figures delivered, I saved approximately $15AUD per figure - and that was full price on BBTS. And I notice that, like you say, outside of their TMNT stock, some lines remain in stock at full price then disappear, which has me thinking “was their a last minute FOMO rush, or, does NECA have a stock movement program?”. It would amazing if you could get an interview with someone significant in NECA, we want answers haha.
I have so Many Neca Action Figures but The Line Need to Make Different Characters it's just Like You Discussed in this Video Neca Definitely should stop Making so Many Versions of the Same Action Figures
Gotta say, NECA had some hits amd misses. I just hope there are other companies that do a lot of figures of various movies/series franchises that can compete with NECA at their level.
I'm hoping neca does a Shadow figure in their "original super heroes" line and a Billy Zane phantom figure! I don't necessarily care about market value because every time I have sold something that had a ridiculous high value I've never gotten anywhere near it's value so I'm all for re-issues when I've missed their original run like I wish neca would re-issue their Batman and superman in an ultimate line!
Maybe the NECA D&D action figures are having trouble because Hasbro so completely demolished the brand. Hasbro's garbage quality on the D&D figures under the "Hasbro" name was so bad it turned people off of Hasbro and D&D.
Neca should have just stuck to the first movie BTTF figures Marty with Cam Doc in radiation suit Mr Strickland (young/Old version, same fig LOL) Possibly Jennifer Then maybe a second wave Marty in yellow outfit Young Doc Young George Young Lorraine Young Biff with book Then moved on to the second film if first line was successful
D&D could go super deep and make TMNT look like a single figure release in comparison. However, Four Horsemen's Mythic Legions has better articulation and range and quality than NECA. Hasbro blew their chance to dominate the fantasy action figure market.
The reason why TMNT seems to be losing steam is that new fans can't get the older figures released. Maybe there are many potential new fans and collectors that would like to get all of the figures. How can new fans get all the figures at new and resonable prices instead of used/collectible high prices? Re-releasing older figures and letting people know that is what is happening will entice new fans. Neca prices are 50-70 euro for one in Europe
They're around $35 (US) where I live.
The only reason I didn’t buy back to the future was that it didn’t look like Marty Mcfly. If Marty ain’t right it’s over

Just picked up that turtle punk 4 pack and cast in suit !!! So stoked !!! Spend 75 get 20 off at target !!!!
Nice video, thanks. NECA, please make M.A.S.K. line of figures and masks. It'll also be a niche market, but there are fans for it.

Good stuff. Love NECA for the most part but I’m done collecting NECA save for a couple black & white Universal Monsters.
do you think we get some 40th anniversary Terminator 1 Figures? The first movie was released 1984.
They should make a Jeepers Creepers figure and make Blood and Honey 2 figures

None of my Target stores have any of these TMNT figures at all.

That is a great point and if they priced their figures that way in the States they would not sell either
That Kyle Reese is kinda terrible. It's basically a statue. They need to release a fully articulated version with soft goods
Thanks for the info! That would be cool if they released an updated Reese
