Kenny, you're a rock star! haven't seen you in over 10 years. Then, BAM - I need to fix my pool and there's my old friend Kenny. Thanks for all you do. Hope you and the family are doing well. Looks like you entered a similar niche to me on UA-cam. Keep rocking dude. Miss you.
HI, Love your content. Question, what is the pipe thread size of the black portion of the valve that is threaded into the bottom of the autofill canister. I'm on the east coast and need to winterize it assuming I'm removing the complete assembly to blow out the line and plug it. Obviously I'll also plug the port from the pool side first. Thanks in advance, Allan.
Honestly, I don’t know the pipe thread size of what you’re talking about. In Arizona it’s a standard size and thread. So perhaps it would be the same in your area.
Can you plug the small outlet that the small rubber hose attaches to near the top? The Korkys and Pentairs don’t have them. Great video. Very explicit. Thanks!
This was really good for me. I been in the pool biz 11 yrs and was never properly taught how to install or how these work. Thanks a lot. Btw do u know how to replace skimmers?
Pool School the whole entire skimmer that the basket sits in. Like cutting the old one out and installing a new one. U know that repair? Maybe u can make a video on that someday....
Good video. My pool is not refilling automatically. Does that mean it's likely the valve or something else. Due to the inexpensive cost of a valve, should I just start there? I do know the valve is very very old. Also, I have a pool service and they don't even address this topic.
I'd start with the valve and see if that's the issue, but have you made certain the water supply for the auto fill is on? If you're not sure what or where your's is this video may help: ua-cam.com/video/HYCQwG5sTxI/v-deo.html
You forgot to mention that there's a flow reducer washer in that threaded receptacle where you screw in the fill-valve. You can see it in your video. You need to be sure that's still in place before screwing in the new valve, because it can easily come out during this project.
you are so right about that. And if that's not in place it will "leak" and water will still flow slightly even when the valve is off. Thanks for pointing that out.
Well done.. thanks for posting these helpful videos. We live near the Sun City Grand area of the valley. My unground concrete pool is older & previous tenants left with it needing repairs. Do you have any recommendations on who I should call for: Pool light not working, spa button is missing, resurface or repaint spa only, resurface/repair cool deck? It's a lot, I know. Thank you in advance for any recommendations you may have ♡
Kindly Please I do, but I’m not at liberty to post his phone number on my UA-cam channel. If you will email me I’d be happy to email his number to you he’s the best.
Certainly just get a wet/dry shop vac and stick it in the bottom of the auto fill some and you should be able to vacuum out most of the debris and dirt that’s causing the water to look dirty.
Can the pool side float valve, under the round cover in the video, like mine is, be adjusted to remove/release water if pool level is getting too high? Let's say from the winter rains? Thanks.
It cannot. Depending on the type of filter you have (DE and Sand you can merely backwash to lower the water level - make sure you recharge the DE filter if it is one). If it's a cartridge filter they usually have a spigot somewhere near the filter pipes (usually on the return side) that allows excess water to be drained off through it.
did the male end break off into the female end? if so you may have to get a pair of needle nose pliers to get it out. Maybe in pieces. But if that's not the case if you would email me a pic of what it now looks like I can possibly advise more accurately. kennypoolschool@gmail.com
would love a solution for our autofill located in catch basin. Everytime we turn on vanishing edge, catch basin level drops and autofill turns on... problem with this is my pool is full, so we are dumping 2 hours of water out the overflow when vanishing edge turns off.
Sounds like the issue is the check valve that is supposed to stop the water from running back into the catch basin (negative edge basin) once the pump motor turns off. There should be a check valve on the suction side of your equipment that's on the pipe that draws from the catch basin and it should stop the water from flowing back into the basin after the pump shuts off. You may need to either replace or repair that check valve (it's a one way valve that only allows water to flow one way) or there may even be some debris in it causing it to not seal.
Do you know the name of that container that the fill valve goes into? Does it have a specific name? Or is it just a plastic basin with a threated 3/4" adaptor? Thanks. I had no idea the purpose of those until now! Geat videos
Is there a direct correlation between the height of the auto-fill float and the height of the pool water? It seemed like the pool needed to come up way more than three quarters of an inch?
There is and this valve needed more adjustment which I eventually did as we got the level up. Sometimes it's difficult to "eyeball" the level of the float so you do your best and adjust accordingly.
How long do they last? Mine has been running 5 months. I also heard you should shut off the Auto fill during freezing temps to protect it. Do you recommend that?
Not sure about that since we don't really have freezes out here. But I came from N. California and did a lot of skiing in Lake Tahoe and we were always taught that during freezes you should leave water trickling to avoid pipes freezing.
Are those pretty common in your area? I have not seen any of those here in Florida yet ,or at least none of my customers do.pretty neat though thanks for sharing 👍
Wow that's hard to say. I typically do it when I'm already at a pool for their weekly pool service so I only charge a small markup on the part and then maybe another $10 to install. But If it's a special service call for that it would really depend on the area you're in and what the market is there. Honestly it's so easy to do yourself I'd give it a try and save the money.
It’s possible you have a faulty valve at the spigot, or you could have a underground leak in the pipe that’s seeping into the pool or if you have other outside irrigation that could be contributing. I’m assuming that you were talking about the water feed shut off that’s near your hose bib for your pool auto leveler. If it’s the auto leveler valve and you fix that but water still coming in then your issue is not the auto leveler valve it’s between the float valve and the main shut off for the feed supply near your hose bib that there’s probably a break or crack in the pipe and that’s why your water is continuing to fill
@@LarryAlexander2 Unfortunately that is a bit out of my wheelhouse if you email me I would be happy to send you a referral to a pool repair company that I would highly recommend.
Wow, I've never heard of that. You may be able to have a plumber thread it for you. Or possibly you can glue in a threaded female sleeve to allow a bottom feed auto leveler to be screwed into it. maybe?
