    Apparently, in the 17th century or so there was a suicide note which cited "this constant buttoning and unbuttoning" as the reason for ending it all

    David is hesitant because he knows it's a brilliant idea and he wants to do it himself from now on.

    These contestants are so quick witted. I understand for regulars, but some of these who aren't regulars are still very good at making lies sound real, and vice versa.

      In London, we call tracksuit pants tracksuits, tracksuit bottoms, or jogging bottoms. There are also jeans, and trousers, which you wear as part of a suit.

      I think when he says "we need" he refers to American viewers who largely have no idea who the guests are. I mean I think it's a great way to find out about new people and comedians, but it has potential for the US. He's not wrong either.
      To say that people should just watch one version of a show because it's already great & belongs to your culture, is the equivalent of people saying our countries are the same with the same culture and so should have the same as us and be the same as us, which is wrong.
      We share a great many things compared to other countries in the world, but our senses of humour in general take very different approaches. We Brits typically take fun in mockery and examining the pointlessness of everything in a more pessimistic, comedic way. The US on the other hand, largely has a culture of optimism. For example, people are told what they should do when they win the lottery, like the chance of it happening are actually worth talking about and exploring the options, and people listen to these shows!
      Here in the UK, we all talk about how pointless the lottery is, knowing the chance of winning is incredibly low and that a great many people play it without any hope of winning or just don't bother. We would find the notion of a show telling us how to use our winnings ridiculous because nobody actually believes they will win it and so wouldn't waste time doing actual research to figure it out.
      It is the last thing we "Brits" need to have a US version, because ours is already kickass. But for many Americans, they would prefer to see people they recognise on the show, rather than actors, newsreaders and other popular media personnel from British media that they have limited access to.

    • @Kipah
      @Kipah Рік тому

      The host and team captains are white and male, which won't change anytime soon, but guest representation is approximately in line with the population. It's likely that sex, race, disability etc in guest selection is deliberately tailored episode to episode and season to season to fit with the published BBC aims. In the latest seasons you won't find an episode with more than 2 male guests, for example. In the latest two seasons, approximately 85% of the guests were white and 48% were male.
