WOW! You made me tear up with this response. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! I’m currently teaching percussion and recording technology at FSU as a post-doctoral scholar. I also run a video production business of my own in Tallahassee, FL. Ironically, this was my VERY FIRST recording project I did all on my own, and was submitted as an assignment in a percussion recording class I took at FSU, so there are a few things that I’d change about the WAY that it was recorded. Admittedly, I did put a TON of time, slow practice, and energy into this piece, and probably grew more musically from this one than almost any other I’ve played. I often argue that the marimba has more expressive capabilities than almost any other instrument. The ability to manipulate the volume and tone color of each mallet - whether using touch, bar placement, mallet choice, etc. - opens up a vast landscape of articulatory possibilities, and for all types of music. I fell in LOVE with Bach’s music after studying with Dr. Parks at FSU, and filled half of all three of my solo percussion recitals with his music, such as the E minor lute suite, G minor violin sonata, and D minor Partita. For me, personally, I always challenged myself to play music in such as a way that it “feels good” for the listener, and to “lead” them as clearly as possible from point A to point B. The goal being that even non-musicians could listen, feel, and perhaps even “understand” the music….

There is this thing about J.S. Bach music, that NO MATTER what it is played on - be it a cellphone ringtone, a set of exhaust pipes, a church organ, set of human voices, even drums, really! no matter at all -- it is captivating all the same. Indeed this performance is amazing, except for just one 'fermata' that was over-done, It keeps the voices, and is so gentle and beautiful... but again. It's so hard to know who's to applaud here... J.S.Bach again, or the wonderful performer. Anyways... a big big LIKE - I loved this very much. Thanks.
I have played this on piano and it's mind boggling how this gentleman could be so musical with 4 mallets. His phrasing is just amazing and lovely and I can't believe his touch using, again, 4 mallets. What a talent. Thank you!!

Believe it or not....about 15 years ago I created an arrangement of this same piece and played on a synthesizer....and the sound tone I used was a Marimba. I also play pipe organ and electronic organs, accordion and digital accordion. I always thought that this Bach Invention #13 was the perfect Marimba piece. Looks like you agree ;-) Very well played and fine dynamics!

Oh! how beautiful Inventio X3 it is. Yeah! I hear Pablo Casals said " Bach is the Treasure Box of Music" I quite agree with him veryvery much, and much more about your playing xylophone, especially turning conversation between with each the first motive is so graceful touch, I was moved so much. I wonder if Bach might have heard your xylophone, how should have said he? Yeah, anyway so nice natural touch playing that is on improvisation. I would feel where is p or where is f is oblivious of dynamics. that's depend on impulse which feels every day's irresistible. Yeah! (91yrs.Japanese) sorry strange English.
I have a special connection to this Bach piece. It was the first music I got to play on my early 80's IBM brand PC with a Roland MPU-401 MIDI card. This is a great rendition of a great composition.
Such a magical and mystical sound! In Bach's time there was no instrument like this, but I'm sure it would have fascinated him hearing his piece played on this instrument He might have been inspired to wright a piece just for it.
It's really remarkable how your articulation makes it obvious that there are 2 separate, coherent melodies woven together, passing musical motifs and melodic focus back and forth. You make it easy to appreciate and understand by playing it so well
Bach came into my life after marriage to lady who is an outstanding music teacher, who was listed in World's Whose Who of Music while in her twenties. She brought a strong liking for Bach that affected my life in a very positive way. Thank you dear Wife of several decades!
As a pianist this is one of my favorite pieces to play, the way the harmony seems to expand and contract is breath-taking. You took this very tricky piece with all its complex fingering and played it on MALLETS?! This performance must be applauded! The mysterious, echo-y sound of this instrument (pipe marimba?) makes it sound like an adventurous and stealthy video game theme.

Giant round of applause not just for this excellent performance, but also for the man who invented this multiple-mallet technique.
