  • Nothing beats a bowl of hot chili served up with salty crackers and a cold glass of milk on a blustery winter's day. Kids love it with sour cream, cheese and tortilla chips.
My chili has a spicy flavor because of the peppers and onions, but it also has a slightly sweet taste that you and your family will love.
I won't lie and say that this recipe was handed down to me by my mom or granny. It's the result of 45 years of trial and error. That's what cooking is...trial and error.
When it comes to cooking, don't be afraid to go in the kitchen and throw some things in a pot and experiment, it's your kitchen.
JN 4:23-24 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
    Remember to Put God First!!!
    Ingredients:
    1 1/2 lbs.- ground beef
    1 Onion
    1 Bell pepper
    2 Jalapeño Peppers
3 cans Beans - Kidney, Pinto, Black ....
1 or 2 cans tomato of your choice (can or fresh)
    chili powder
    salt & pepper
    1 to 2 teaspoons sugar
    1 tablespoon Vinegar

The best bowl of chili my husband & I have every eaten was made at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington KY. It was in the late 80s or early 90s. My father in law had to stay overnight for some testing, as we started home we stopped and got 3 bowls to go. We went back to the motel to pack and we ate while it was still warm. 30 years later, we still talk about that chili. I could absolutely kick myself for not going back or even calling after we got home, and trying to find out how they made that chili. 🤦‍♀️ Years later when my dad was in hospice at the University of Tennessee, he fell in love with their tomato soup. He hadn't had an appetite in weeks and was losing weight and getting weaker. When we were getting ready to take him home, I went down to the kitchen to ask for their recipes. It was simply canned tomato soup BUT instead of adding water they used V8 juice! The cook said they gave it to all the cancer patients because it was easy for them to keep down and the V8 juice boosted the nutrition. Who would have thought something so simple could change the taste that much. I've made at that way ever since.

Hi Becky, chili is like soup, I had never thought of it that way. I live in Texas so my chili is highly Spanish influenced. I can’t tolerate the bell pepper families so I do not use that. We use to only use venison chili, it is excellent. I use onion, cayenne, salt and pepper and H‑E‑B our local grocery store has a spiced dry chili mix I use for most flavor as well as chili powder and crushed tomatoes and sauce. We usually have pinto beans on the side. I add water to thin it out and maybe take away some of the heat for pickie eaters. Your recipes are wonderful, I watch you and Mary’s Nest, best two cooking shows on you tube! Thank you thank you thank you🙏🇺🇸✝️

I am not a religious person, despite growing up in a very conservative, traditional, Christian household. Even so, there's no denying your love of cooking and your appreciation for a simple life and understanding of the average household's need to have easy, cheap meals that aren't bad for you and taste good!
I also appreciate just how much you love your faith, even if I do not walk down the same spiritual road you do. You always seem to use those aspects of the Christian faith and belief in God to help others and uplift your audience, and I really respect that. Thanks for your videos, I love your recipes, and don't change!

I enjoyed watching you make chili 🤗 Some things I have added to my basic chili, that were delicious are things such as small diced stew meat, a couple tsp of Better than Bullion Beef (reduced sodium), the Better than Bullion Chili Base (its SOoo good) and even a Tblsp or two of cocoa powder (that adds a molé dimension to the chili). In Hawaii, we always have sticky calrose white rice with chili. For breakfast you can add an over easy fried egg on top. Now that I have been newly transplanted to Arkansas, I like to have cornbread on the side too.😉 No surprise I am needing more than ever to drop some weight 🤣
I've been watching the exciting news of revival at that college! And there's a movie called Jesus Revolution based on the true story of revival in the early 70s... that's going to be exciting to see. 👍🏻🙂 Praise God for this to be finally happening after so many have prayed so long for just such an outburst of faith & God's presence in the world. 🙏🙏 Thank you Jesus.

    helpful tips for chili:
to help thicken it consider halving a few potatos and letting them simmer in with the chili from the start. you can pull them out and serve separately if desired or leave them in.
another good thickening idea is to make a rue in with the ground meat before adding in the rest of the ingredients.
also, ilike a bit of cumin in my chili.
another really good starter for chili is one of those 15 bean soup kits.
for those who want to add a bit more liquid, consider a meat based broth.

It thickens up with 1 or 2 slices of whole wheat bread too. You just tear the bread in pieces and pour some of the chili on top and mash it up

Not tolerating hot stuff (like pepper and jalapeno peppers) well, I also add some cumin and some regular or smoked paprika to liven the flavor. I call my veggied-up version "chili stew" and have it often, so easy and tasty, as well as very nutritious. Next batch I'll add some vinegar!

hmmmmm….. looks like chili this afternoon 💖.
My daughter had to have a PB&J sandwich, & hot sauce with hers. Her sons think if there is not peanut butter sandwiches, they are deprived. Not me. Lol.
I DO however have to have a cold glass of milk with chili.

Hi Becky, your plans for a cold winter day is perfect ! Wish I had that smell-a-vision you mentioned in another video. Absolutely yummy. Bless you for all that you do in your witness for the Lord.
Stay warm and cozy, enjoy that wonderful pot of chili . Michigan

Becky you look just fine to me. You don't need to lessen the calories. I can't wait to try this recipe, since your cream of broccoli soup turned out so well. I prefer to use canned tomatoes but I'm overruled here, so I use tomato juice. This winter I need to make and can more chili, so I'm going to put both in. I like to can soups and stews in the winter because it helps to heat the house. I'm in Wisconsin.

I like to make chili with beans in my pressure cooker. Maybe 30 minutes at high pressure, because I like how it makes the beans easier to digest for me. I love watching your videos, and how you include God in them. You are such a sweet soul.

I love chili... when I was in university my mom used to make up a huge crockpot of chili for me and freeze it in small containers. It was so convenient, and delicious. It always makes me think about my mom. I had no idea about the sugar and vinegar thing, I am going to try that.

Thank you Ms Becky for the recipe and the message! I love chili! I have a certain list of what I put in the basic recipe. Then I might add things that need to used up out of the fridge or getting ripe. So yes Ma’am it tends to change flavor and consistency with each pot! But I learn what works and what doesn’t. God bless you!

I found that crumbling the meat for chili makes it go farther. Which, consequently, means you can cut back on the amount of meat you use and that will save you money and cooking time. Italian sausage and venison (especially) is excellent for making chili. I usually fix mine in a crockpot, so it can cook for up to 8 hours.

Chili is a soup, and like any soup, it's 'use what you have' ... I don't think I've ever made chili the same way twice, either. I love the addition of salsa in place of (or in addition to?) the tomatoes, peppers, onions, etc. if you don't want to do all that. Easy 30-minute meal, thanks Becky!

I like to use italian diced tomatoes, black beans, 85/15 ground beef, and a can of corn. We call it southwest chili. Then top it with shredded cheese and sour cream. ❤

As usual, Becky, love your video. I always did some sugar with tomatoes, but I've never tried the vinegar, so it's on my list for the next pot. One thing I add that gives it a different touch is about a tsp of cinnamon nice flavor!

My mom used to put the chili pot in the oven for an hour and a half instead of simmering on the stove. Made it nice and thick which is the way I still like it. Also with a butter sandwich
I also like putting in a can of white hominy and a big soup spoon full of peanut butter.
