Shout out to Sam Butera on tenor sax, the man who gave the band funk before its time. Louis was a trumpet player from New Orleans who modeled himself after Satchmo. Prima wrote the song that propelled Benny Goodman to superstardom, “Sing Sing Sing,” sometimes considered an early precursor to rock and roll.
Louis Prima won a Grammy for "That Old Black Magic" for best performance by a vocal group or chorus. Such a great time in music. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Cynthia. Cool selection. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Louis wrote and recorded “Jump, Jive, and Wail” in the 1950’s, later covered by the Brian Setzer Orchestra. Keely is one of my favorite female vocalists. On their TV show Sonny and Cher modeled their banter after the Vegas act of Louis and Keely.
So glad to see Prima and Smith here! Prima emerged from the Big Band era to establish the Vegas "Lounge Act." In fact Prima wrote the music and lyrics for "Sing Sing Sing" for Benny Goodman, perhaps the most famous Big Band song.
Finally someone reacted to them !! They were the biggest act in Vegas for a long time, bigger than Sinatra. Other Vegas stars used to go to their shows. He sings I Wanna Be Like You from the movie Jungle Book.
Louis was an energetic performer and just a wonderful person. His humor was in your face. Keely was also a humorist performer, but her act was more deadpan and they played beautifully off one another.
They were huge in Vegas in the fifties. I once bought a book called the "Catalog of Cool" in which the author nominated several "hipster saints". Louis Prima was one of them.
These guys were friends with the rat pack and as I said he played a mean trumpet in some of the songs. They were married for a quite a few years He was a comic and she was the straight “guy”. I agree he does sound like Tony Bennett. Love the photo of Tony he was so young there., Also I don’t know if you noticed when he said you are the lover I’ve been waiting for he said You’re the blubber I’ve been waiting for. Early on in the song.
I miss the old vaudeville and variety show entertainers. I am glad I grew up in the fifties and sixties. I got to see and hear all the great entertainers of the forties. Everything is so specialized now. There are no more all around entertainers. What a loss to the younger generations who missed this.
I have my Dads lps. I LOVE them together. King Louie wrote "Sing Sing Sing" with a Swing....released in 1936 by Benny Goodman & his Orchestra. He wrote so many Greats we All know Louie Preema its pronounced.💙 Fabulous Writer & performer
Ahh Harri......really? Louis Prima!!!! I never thought i would see someone react to him. He is best known for his fun Italian songs, but not as well known for the song her wrote that Bennie Goodman made famous.....Sing Sing Sing. That said....take a listen to Angelina :)
There is a 1996 movie titled "Big Night' in which Stanley Tucci and Tony Shalhoub play brothers who run a restaurant, and they prepare a very special meal in the belief that Louie Prima will visit their restaurant that evening.
Louis Prima is great. My favorite of his is Just a Gigilo/I Ain't Got Nobody that David Lee Roth did a great job covering. It is a great song that shows off Louis Prima's singing abilities. Another video you need to check out is Trombone Shorty doing his Hurricane Season live. His performance is totally amazing showing off what he can to with a trumpet. He is one of the best musicians in New Orleans today.
You are a little confused. He...is Louis Prima. She...is Keely Smith. They were a married couple and, together with their backup band, Sam Butera and the Witnesses, were the best nightclub act...ever. Louis also wrote what would become the Swing Era's anthem, Sing Sing Sing.
Oh, Keely could sing, alright. Maybe check out some of her albums, if you haven't already done so since this was published. Louis was a character...he had so much energy.
Great performance of a great song. I know you like Bob Dylan as well, and here's a version by him, done a few years ago: ua-cam.com/video/AA--V1OYv30/v-deo.html
David Lee Roth after he left Van Halen covered I Ain't Got Nobody/Just A Gigalo on his debut album! Keely Smith worked with Nelson Riddle on solo projects!

It's Keely. They were married during this time. She was one of my favorites. Great voice.
Also my daughter's name.

Where are you marybaillie8907?

Probably best known for the voice of King Louie of Disney's Jungle Book and the song I'm Just A Gigolo.
That is a great song I’m just a Gigolo.
Disney animated king of the swinger's around his movements i believe.
I can't believe you''re doing Keely Smith! She's so overlooked. One of the greats.
Love them. Keely Smith is captivating.
So glad to see Prima and Smith here! Prima emerged from the Big Band era to establish the Vegas "Lounge Act."

They clowned around a lot but she was an incredible vocalist.
Their performances together always featured real talent with a touch of comedy
It's kee-lee. A Cherokee Indian. And louietwas the original Vegas resident entertainer.
He's the voice of King Louis from the Jungle Book movie.
He was one hell of a trumpet player as well.
So many great Italian singers and entertainers back in the 50s and 60s. Most are gone now. What a great era.
Finally someone reacted to them !! They were the biggest act in Vegas for a long time, bigger than Sinatra. Other Vegas stars used to go to their shows. He sings I Wanna Be Like You from the movie Jungle Book.
Louis Prima was also often at Lake Tahoe in those days.
Keely Smith was native American. A little fun trivia.
you're the blubber i been waiting for,,,Keely was one the great vocalists of all time..
Band kicked it. You can hear the influence this era music had on prog musicians of the 60s and 70s.
Louis Prima Just a Gigilio
Louis was an energetic performer and just a wonderful person. His humor was in your face. Keely was also a humorist performer, but her act was more deadpan and they played beautifully off one another.
Fun ..and her dress is funny too. Her voice is strong and great.
Louie Prima was a favorite of my Dad's.
Loved it Cyn1 💜🎵🎶
Thank you Cyn2.
@@Cynthia... Xoxo
@@missblondie2393 Miss Blondie2393 we miss you.
louis prima's voice sang "i wanna be like you" in disney's film "the jungle book"
They were huge in Vegas in the fifties. I once bought a book called the "Catalog of Cool" in which the author nominated several "hipster saints". Louis Prima was one of them.
Lots of good stuff from this era! Try Louis Prima’s “Oh Marie” and “Five Months Two Weeks Two Days”. Or Rosemary Clooney’s “Mambo Italiano”.
Oh yes, do Rosemary Clooney's (George's aunt) "Mamba Italiano". I remember this era from listening to my parent music. Great stuff.
Prima, Keely, Sam Butera and the Witnesses were the pioneers of the Las Vegas entertainment industry.
I love my Rock and Roll, but Louie Prima and Keely Smith were real entertainers. They don't have folks like this anymore.
Good stuff.

Every once in a while I spend the night noodling around watching Louis Prema. You’d be surprised the songs he wrote.
There is a live video of Louis Prima doing Night Train in 1957 that is absolutely ON FIRE. It is Sam Butera's best sax performance they got on video.

Another great choice Cyn. You sure can choose 'em. 😉👍🇨🇦. Great reaction Harri. 🤴🇬🇧🇺🇸🙃
How did I miss this? Thank you Daniel.
Louis Prima also voiced "King Louie" in Disney's animated Jungle Book.
Louis Prima was the man

His voice reminds me of Harry Belafonte & he does resemble Tony 💕 Bennett 😊 Great video !!
Louis Prima (pronounced Luwee Preema) was a New Orleans legend. Great entertainer who often doesn't get his due these days. Electric.
Wow, you went into the vault for this....Just a gigolo or Angelina from the pizzeria
FYI, Louis Prima was the voice of Louie in the Jungle Book movie.
They were Sonny and Cher before there was a Sonny and Cher.

THEY WOULD DO SHOWS AT 2:30 AM BACK IN THE DAY

Check out their song Angelina!
You should watch their video of Night Train.
You should try keely smith singing all night long. Excellent. She was a great singer
Louis Prima and Tony Bennett were both Italian-American...
If you like this, check out Les Paul and Mary Ford absolutely live.
Angelina
First! 😃
😉
I don't think they actually 'worked' a day in their lives!
They were having too much fun for it to be a chore! 🤣
Great performance of a great song. I know you like Bob Dylan as well, and here's a version by him, done a few years ago: ua-cam.com/video/AA--V1OYv30/v-deo.html

Love this song, but not this version
Sonny and Cher borrowed from these two…
