Hi ! A very good video, I'm a PhD in comp neuro, and I highly recommend to everyone to look for Neuromatch Academy, I was a TA on it last year, those resources are world class and free, so hopefully in some re edition of this video, those can be added, basically that summer school relate everything you showed in your video in a cohesive way. Try to take a look at it.

For the machine learning and mathematics part "Mathematics for machine learning" is a free textbook that teaches you the math (linear algebra, multivariate calc and some geometry) and the stats (regression) plus some common algorithms (with jupyter notebooks available with worked examples). So it's a nice general overview of the entire things for those short on time

I’m a full time data scientist and I took the course Fundamentals of statistics that were mentioned in the video. That’s a pretty tough course, you must have a good foundation in multivariate calculus and linear algebra. Besides, it is a highly theoretical course, so if you wanna experiment something more practical don’t go for it.
However, if your intention is to fill the statistics gap, I strongly recommend it. Moreover, I should mention that there is another course considered a pre requisite for this one. It is called “probability: the science of uncertainty and data”, which is also from MIT and available on EdX.
With these two courses, you are capable of dealing with any problem in statistics in a theoretical approach.

I really loved this video. I'm a medicine student interested in neurophysiology, and I like the idea of mixing machine learning, electroencephalography and evoked potentials. This will help me a lot. For the neuroscience subject I'd also recommend Kandel's Principles of Neural Science.

been interested in neuroscience for years and am a cs student. was trying to find a field that blended the two, but was disappointed to learn most stuff for it in academia was masters and up. so glad to see this video.

We use R in my biology bachelor's programme, maybe I'll give this a try now that I already have some basic knowledge. If there is anything I've learned in uni it's that if you know where to get quality learning material, nothing is preventing you from learning all this on your own basically for free. All uni does is providing a "guided tour", although to be fair the practical courses will be hard to organise for people learning on their own. Thank you for all the info!

I am currently doing a bachelor’s in physics and computer science, but am unsure whether I want to pursue higher education in Theoretical physics or Applied computer science or Applied discrete mathematics 🤕. To those about to start their bachelor’s, keep in mind that interests change a lot, so take as many diverse courses as possible. Build up skills rather than a set- in- stone degree.

@@andreaalminana1794 Well, after my Master's in Neuroscience, I did M.Phil. in Cognitive Science. And now I am planning for a PhD in Neurobiology or related field. Neuroscience is a young field and there are plenty of opportunities, but since I wanted to stay in academia and research, I am thinking of PhD and post doc.

My undergrad was in cell & molecular biology with a minor in physics. I took lots of math too. My biggest regret was not taking *any* computer science or programming classes, though. I corrected this as a post-bacc.. I am doing a masters in Data Science now and can attest to the absolute need for R and Python programming skills. In reality, I am not sure you can get to my knowledge level with a few bootcamps online. You can supplement, for sure. But you really need the rigor of a course, imho, to at least start your self-learning process. The Bishop book is indeed awesome. The David McKay has the class he uses that book for online, btw, right here on UA-cam. Computational neuroscience is definitely an interest of mine. We shall see what kind of doors open once I complete this Data Science MS.

Charlotte Fraza, Many thanks for your videos. I was an Algebra-1 teacher in Los Angeles. Knowing how to increase student attention and Restesting after thorough reviews of only major unit tests created the only As(19) and Bs(34) in my 8th Grade Algebra-1 dept of 4 teachers who did not retest but were superior teachers to me. It may be like iteration of AI computer data. I know SPSS and am learning Python to teach it online for free and Algebra-1 using an approved CA Algebra-1 book but with different problem examples I will create. I look forward to all your future videos. Again, Many Thanks for me and the thousands of kids who will benefit from any free Algebra-1 course I can find and publicize while I develop mine. Peace
I'm doing that course by Andrew NG it is really good even if it is somehow old but it is still relevant ... it gives you whole mathematical background about machine learning and data science
A very good video. Basically, these suggestions apply to anything “computational or modeling” - finance, neuro, economics, marketing, physics, etc, only the last part changes according to the area. Nowadays everything becomes datafied.
Hi, Charlotte! I would highly recommend everyone interested in Computational Neuroscience to get their hands on Statistical Mechanics, as whole brain modes are based on the extension of spiking neuron models to the Thermodynamic Limit.
Once there, the study of Phase Portraits, Stability, Critical Exponents, Phase Transitions and so on is found and applied everywhere.
It also builds up the bases for neural networks and dimensionality reduction algorithms.
i really admire ppl you who are so intelligent and are good at science. i wish i was just as smart as you 😊

McKay’s book is fantastic if you have a physics background, or if you prefer physical/intuitive explanations alongside mathematical ones.

Ever since I watched a video about learning electronics on your own, UA-cam recommends many self learn videos, and now this. Now I don't know what it is that I should learn as there are so many interesting things 😄

I read my first book on the topic literally called "MATLAB for Neuroscientists" on my first year of university... ended up learning both my first programming language as well as getting initiated with computational neuroscience in one go. Strongly recommend if you can find a copy of this book from your local library (or elsewhere).

Thanks for the nice video. For the physics part I would suggest the "Neural Dynamics" book by W. Gerstner and also Dynamical Systems in Neuroscience by E. Izhikevich.

I agree. Griffiths' Electrodynamics are for upper division physics and I wouldn't recommend it to people who hasn't done electrostatics and relativity yet. The book requires strong calculus 3 and vector calculus skills too.
EM Purcell's E&M book is great for beginners, because it introduces the needed Vector Calculus as it goes and doesn't use it as freely as Griffiths. It's also more wordy than mathematical which beginners might prefer
The Izhikevich book definitely assumes a knowledge of differential equations.

Check out Cellular and Molecular Neurophysiology by Constance Hammond. It is easily in my top 5 science books in any field.
