    I have used this video for two summers now that we have chokecherries. It's the closest thing to making CC syrup in my mother-in-law's kitchen. Thank you❤

    This is awesome! Your grandma looks like my neighbor Betty 😅 she always gives us a pot full of raspberries it was so lovely nothing compares wild berries, this is growing in our yard abundantly so I started harvesting a whole years worth.

    My mom just made a batch today. I have always preferred this to Maple Syrup.

    Thank you so very much for making this video! I've been wanting to try to make chokecherry syrup, but have been a little intimidated until now. Watching your lovely video made me feel like I was back in the kitchen with my own beloved grandmother. I'm now going to go and give it a try. Thank you again!

    You're very blessed to learn this from your grandma, I've seen many YT videos were they waste half the juice doing it wrong. Ive found at garage sales etc the berry sieve most people don't know what it is. First did this when I was seven. Best tasting jelly and syrup on the planet.

      That makes sense; it's an unusual process so I can understand why people get it wrong! And Yes- I am very grateful to have my grandma to teach me all of her secrets! 😊

    What a wonderfully wholesome instructional video with the loveliest people demonstrating! I'm planning on putting in a chokecherry bush or two in my suburban lot and hopefully one day I can make some delicious chokecherry syrup too.

    What a lovely video. Reminded me of cooking with my dear Mum back in the day. She too didn’t measure everything, just went by the look and feel of things. Today I’m bottling up some hedgerow syrup here in the UK and I will be thinking of you girls. Ros x

    • @RD-mz5sy

      @@onceuponaglobe hedgerow syrup is just a collection of fruits you might find growing a hedge. Mine this year has wild apples, sloes and blackberries. 👍x

    I've eaten chokecherries raw since I was a kid. Only the black ones though. If they are not completely ripe they will leave your mouth feeling either completely sucked dry of spit or weird.

    • @onceuponaglobe
      @onceuponaglobe  Рік тому

      Wow, really?! I must have only ever tried them when they weren't ripe enough. I'll have to try them again, thanks for the tip!

    In the intro you were saying how disgusting they are to eat right off of the tree. Haha! What a princess. They are fine. When they are ready for picking, and a nice plum color, they are delicious! As kids, we ate mouthfulls of them when picking, and spit the seeds out ... just the opposite of consuming sunflower seed, where the shells are spit out. Sure, they make you pucker, but they are still plenty sweet enough to eat fresh. And so good for you!

      If we can keep the birds away, we found they test best after the first frost. They become sweet on their own then.

    I was going to attempt chockcherry jam, but I love this idea even better. Over pancakes, waffles, ice cream, desserts 🍨

    • @onceuponaglobe
      @onceuponaglobe  4 роки тому +2

      Yes! It's great as a syrup. What I also do with it is put some in a small bowl, then dip toast with butter on it into the syrup (so you can sort of eat it like jam too!).

    This is a great video! I am making my first batch (my Mom used to make jelly and syrup). I love syrup in homemade Greek yogurt which is dead easy to make. I can't wait to use my berry sieve which I bought on Facebook marketplace. Thanks for the video. (From SK).

    Can you use a steam juicer to juice these? It's the same process to make apple juice, grape juice etc.
