      Please film glasses reviews from firmoo and eyebuydirect. These are websites similar to zenni. Also if want to know why glasses usually cost so much theres an Adam knows Everything about that.

    You did an excellent review of your Zenni glasses. Just so you know i'm a retired optician but I have been been ordering glasses from Zenni for the past 15 years. and have ordered several hundred pairs for my own family as well friends and friends of their friends and even a number of my former patients. But even with ordering so many I don't receive any compensation either. But isn't it wonderful to be able to buy a really nice looking good quality pair of glasses including your prescription for less than what a Big Mac meal costs at McDonald's?
    I couldn't agree with you more about how much a pair of glasses can cost at a local optical store even with vision insurance it can still cost a couple hundred dollars for a pair of glasses. That's so not right for something like yourself that is so necessary for you to be able to just function in daily life. Like in your case you can't see well enough to drive so if you for any reason lose or break your glasses you can't drive so just getting to work would be your first problem and depending on what type of job you have chances are you would have trouble doing your job as god as you would if you had your glasses. You need to watch a You Tube video that was taped from a "60 Minutes" report a couple years ago. It's called "Sticker Shock Why are Glasses So Expensive?" In it they are interviewing the CEO of a company called Luxottica and they are based in Austria I believe. Anyway thye started out as a high end eyeglass frame manufacturer and now make nearly all of the designer frames you see in the optical stores. But you maybe surprised to learn that they also own Lenscrafter's as well as Pearle Vision Centers, Target Optical, J. C. Penny Optical, Sears Optical and even Sunglass Hut. couple years ago they bought out Oakley and Ray-Ban. They are truly a monopoly and if you have ever been in any of the stores I mentioned i'm sure that you noticed that the glasses were far from cheap. I'm fine with a jewelry store selling their products for whatever they want to sell them for because jewelry is an optional product that isn't necessary to exist like glasses are. Are you aware that in a recent study done by a major university they found that 74% of the population now either wears glasses or contacts. They did the same study back in 2008 and at that time the percentage was 62%. that's quite an increase in just 10 years time. So basically that's 3 out of every 4 people you know are either wearing glasses or contacts now. That's quite a large market that needs vision correction. So I urge you to not only continuing to order your own glasses from Zenni and other sites but urge you're friends to as well because Luxottica would love to see those on line glasses sites go away. You're right being so affordable allows you to have several pairs and being able to wear different glasses from day to day at least makes wearing glasses a bit more fun. Yes usually due to genes it's very common to see a whole family of glasses wearers. So yes a family of 4 or 5 that really adds up when the kids are needing their glasses changed every year. Even with insurance you could still be talking about $1,000.00 a year just for glasses and worse if any of them lose or break their glasses. So yes any friends you have that have growing families you need to convince them about Zenni. Remember when you ordered your first pair from Zenni? I'm sure that you had all sorts of fears about entering your prescription correctly and not making a mistake in placing your order. Everyone feels the same way i'm sure. So if need be actually sit down with them and help them fill in the blanks properly. Like you after they do it once they will be much braver the next time. What I have been surprised by is how many people are actually afraid to ask for a copy of their prescription. They actually feel obligated to to buy their glasses from where they get their eyes examined at. Like they owe it to them to get their glasses their for some crazy reason. Your PD measurement isn't a part of the rye exam. That is usually done after your exam when you have picked out your glasses. That's what is being done when you're sitting at a table with an optician sitting across from you and you are looking into a device that looks like some kind of viewfinder with the optician looking in from the other side. However you should tell a nyone going for an eye exam to ask the optometrist during tje eye exam to get that measurement for you. Then it will be listed on your prescription slip.
    All of the glasses you got look really great on you by the way. Do you mind my I asking what your prescription is? i'm thinking you're probably somewhere around -2.50?

      Thank you sooo much for taking the time to type all of this out, it makes me feel so much better about posting this video. I did this with the intention to spread the word about zenni because it truly saved me so much money and I wish I’d heard about it sooner. It’s so crazy to find out that all of these people are owned by the same company and they really only care about making money. Designer glasses are nice, sure. But when you’re getting glasses as a necessity it suck to have to pay top dollar for it. I am very lucky and fortunate to have had the money to pay for my designer glasses when I got them but there are others who can’t say the same. It still blows my mind that I payed less than $150 for 5 pairs of glasses. I never even thought that would be possible. When I was in college, my only pair of glasses broke and I did everything I could to try and keep them together. I taped them, I super glued them and nothing worked. I ended up having to pop out the lenses and have them shaved to fit another frame which cost me about $60. I had no money at the time so this was still a lot for me, but it was the cheapest option I had especially with no insurance. That being said, I still had to wait for the glasses to be ready so I had to go to school and sit at the front of the class and STILL have trouble seeing. And I know I’m not the only one who has been through something like that because I also know people who wear glasses who have struggled when they broke their only pair. My dad and I have spend sooo much money on glasses over the years, as I’m sure many people have, and I just think this company is so wonderful because it saves you so much money. It’s sad that companies capitalize off the fact that people cannot see. It is a necessity to us, not an accessory. And yet with zenni I can get a pair AND a spare for less than half the price!
      I love that you brought up the fact that people are scared to ask for their prescription because I cannot tell you how many times I considered it and chickened out. like I said, I thought companies like zenni were a scam...but when I was curious about them in the past I couldn’t bring myself to ask for the prescription. I though the doctor would question me and refuse to give it to me because I would be taking business from them. To anyone who may be reading this...don’t be scared! Do it for yourself. I promise it’s worth it....
      I commend you for being an optician and STILL recommending zenni, we truly need more people like you in this world. I’m sure the people you’ve helped are extremely thankful. I hope I can do the same for others with this video.
      I wonder if you’re able to provide me some insight on why I have gotten headaches in the past with new glasses but did not get one this time?
      Either way, I appreciate you explaining PD measurement as well. I can only do so much as I am not a licensed optician lol.
      I don’t mind sharing my prescription at all! Also please don’t laugh if I’m providing it incorrectly lol but I’m looking at it as I type this and my right is -2.25 and my left it -2.75.
      Again, thank you for your kind words and your comment 🖤

      @@JoannaDorian Thank you so much for your kind reply. I guess I don't have to tell you that in all my years as an optician I have never seen a case where "Super Glue" worked. Honestly i'm really not sure why it doesn't work but nearly everyone that breaks their glasses tries super gluing them. Usually all they manage to do is get the glue in the lenses which then seems to melt the lens. I had poor young girl come in wearing a pair of metal framed glasses and they had gotten broke and her dad soldiered them back together, but in doing so he got the soldier all over the lenses and they were a real mess. I don't even know how see was able to see anything through all the soldier. Of course their was nothing we could do for her except sell her new glasses. Being in college and having to wear taped up glasses i'm sure wasn't a look you were going for. But you did what you had to do and it was better than not having glasses at all.
      I had to retire was I was only 60 years old because both of my knees had bone to bone arthritis in them and I was to the point that just standing was too painful for me for any length of time. But the real shock came a few months later when I went to get health insurance for myself. I called Blue Cross who I had been with through my job at the optical store and was told that I had to many pre- existing conditions for them to cover me. That was the same at all of the insurance companies. But at the same time I was told by my doctors that my situation wasn't bad enough for them to write me a note so I could disability and get on Medicare. For the next couple of years I avoided seeing any of my doctors and cancelled numerous appointments because I honestly couldn't afford to pay for an office call. Finally my cardiologist refused to refill my medications if I didn'r come in to be seen. I had a minor heart attack back in my 50's due to a blocked artery and I was due for a heart stress test. I had no choice bit to go however I told the doctor my situation with money and he assured me it would be taken care. Sure enough the stress test showed that I had another blockage and I had to go into the hospital and have dye put into my arteries to find the blockage. It turned out the stint they put in 10 years earlier had closed up and they needed to reopen it with another stint. I was only in the hospital overnight and less than 24 hours. About a month later I received a bill from the hospital for $51,000.00 and an other bill from b y doctor for $50,000.00. So a total of over $101,000.00 which of course i didn't have. I wasn't sleeping very well wondering if and when they might take my house away and I would become a homeless person living on the street. I finally contacted the billing office at the hospital and they had me fill out some paperwork and a week later I got a letter telling me my whole hospital was wiped off the books and that if I needed any medical services I could get them done until I was 65 and could apply for Medicare. That made me feel a lot better and then I called my doctor's office and they reduced my bill to just $1,500.00 which was much better. Because of that I made it my mission to do everything I could possibly do to help other people that needed help like I did. I was already in the local Lion's Club which helps low income people get eye exams and glasses. I have also found that less than half of the young people working in the fast food and sports bars such as servers don't have health insurance which also mean that they don't have vision insurance either. So they simply go without glasses that they really should be wearing. I even went into a local chain that has about 24 locations in my area and told the manager what I was trying to do with these people and she agreed to do simple eye exams for anyone without insurance for $35.00 and allow me to order their glasses form Zenni because she knew all about Zenni and she knew she couldn't come close to mating Zenni's prices for glasses. Since I started doing that I know I have ordered at least a hundred pairs of glasses for just those people. Now you know why I try to help people.
      I was really very close with my guess about your prescription wasn't I? That comes from years of looking at people's glasses. The reason i was asking was mainly because as you know when you order glasses form Zenni they provide a "recommendation" for which lens option you should get base on your prescription. In most cases I tend to agree with them. But a lot depends on the frame selection if someone has a bit of a stronger prescription. I just checked and based on your prescription they recommend a more expensive lens for your prescription which you don't really need. I can tell you that you're fine with just getting either the 1.50 or the 1.57 lenses. Since they both "free" I would get the 1.57 since it is slightly thinner. About 6 months ago Iin commenting with someone here in You Tube she unhappy with another glasses site that recommended she get the more expensive "high index" lenses for her glasses. When she told me what her prescription was I knew she didn't need the thinner lenses. So I sent them an e-mail telling them that I was an optician and theat they were selling people thinner lenses than they really needed. To my surprise I got an e-mail from that company a few days later thanking me for pointing that out to them and saying that it was a glich in their computer and they had fixed it. I pretended to be placing an order for myself and used a prescription similar to the one they were saying required the thinner lenses and sure enough it was fixed and only recommended the "free" option for lenses. Would I be correct in assuming that you prescription hasn't change in the past few years? Generally speaking usually somewhere in early twenties your eyesight should become stable and not change.
      If you have any other questions or comments please feel free to ask me.

      @@JoannaDorian Thank you for taking the time to post this! I'm considering ordering glasses online for the first time and I'm thinking about going with Zenni. @@soundmanpt Hi,
      I'm a bit nervous about ordering glasses online and am wondering if maybe you would be willing to share some of your expertise with me. My prescription is a bit high (4.50 in one eye, 5.75 in the other) and I'm not sure which lens option/index to go for. Is there much of a difference between 1.57, 1.59, 1.61, and 1.67 (the recommended one)?

    • @JoannaDorian
      @JoannaDorian  5 років тому +1

      Jim Boice I think we just hope super glue will work bc of desperation but sadly it never does lol
      Once your glasses are broken, the only thing you can really do is get new ones which sucks but again, that’s why zenni is so great!
      Insurance in this country is a mess, I am so sorry you had to go through all that. I am very happy that your are okay now and you didn’t end up homeless. I can’t imagine how many people do and I definitely know the stress that causes.
      I have TMJ and I had to go to the hospital once bc my jaw was locked and I couldn’t get my mouth closed, so I went to the hospital and I’m not kidding, all I did was sit in the hospital bed waiting for the doctor for 2 hours. Finally, a nurse came in to check me out and when he told me they’d basically have to unlock it by forcing my mouth shut and in that moment I can’t explain to you how scared I was bc I knew it would hurt and I was just afraid of the damage it would cause which of course they didn’t care about so somehow (a miracle) I got my mouth to close before the doctor came in and so once he did all he said to me was that I couldn’t do normal things like “open my mouth too wide when I chewed” (which is how it happened, was eating a chipotle burrito lol) or “open my mouth too wide while yawning” which I thought was stupid but anyhow he prescribed me some Tylenol. A few days later, I got a hospital bill for nearly $8,000. A hospital bill which I couldn’t afford all for sitting on a hospital bed. I was so mad at myself for not handling it at home but I was so scared in that moment I didn’t know what else to do. Luckily, I got it taken care of but it was so horrible at the time.
      You truly are such an amazing person for giving back to people who struggle with no insurance. I wish there were more people like you. Health insurance is a big problem but I feel like no one worries about dental or vision...like they’re just “extra” but these are also necessities. You truly are an angel.
      Thank you so much for letting me know I don’t have to go with their “recommended” lens option and saving me even more money!! I can’t wait to order again!
      It’s also really cool that they actually listened to you and fixed the glitch! So many companies don’t care about anything but making money but zenni seems to really care about saving people money and I could never thank them enough for that.
      My prescription actually gets worse every year and I was told because of this I do not qualify for lasik which I was sad about at first but now I don’t really care. Glasses are a part of my life and that’s okay 🖤

    I've ordered from Zenni, EyeBuyDirect, Coastal, GlassesUSA, and 39dollarglasses and had good luck with all of them. 39dollarglasses sometimes sends me frames with out of alignment temple arms I have to adjust and the last pair I got from them just broke apart. Fortunately, they gave me my money back. EyeBuyDirect is pretty good and the only bad experience I had was the measurements were wrong on their website so the frame I got didn't fit. They did give me a full refund no questions asked. I recently tried a brick and mortar shop again and ended up paying $484.10 for bifocals, plastic frame, and antireflective coating. I can get the same thing online for a third of that so I'll be going back online for my glasses. Great video for getting the word out.

    Can you discuss how easy or difficult it is to return a pair if you don't like them and/or customer service as a bad customer service rep or experience can make it so some people, like myself, might go with a different company that costs a little more. I have kids, do you think that a small child could easily break a pair (like the quality of the material good?). Thanks! Great vid!

    Most people do not know that your Vision Prescription is good for 2 years. This means you can use it to buy a pair every 6 months for 2 years. People go get a prescription every 2 years because that is when it runs out. I got 5 pairs of glasses over 10 years ago and paid about $25 for each pair and I got them all within a few weeks of each other. I will do the same now as I just went and got a new Vision Prescription.
    I picked up a pair at the doctors office (with Insurance) and it was still over $200 out of my wife's pocket(as I am retired). I got a nice Stainless Steel frames($209 but insurance paid $200 so they were $9) for durability. Now I will order online 2 pair that are the standard black military issue looking ones ($8 for the frames) and 2 pair that look like shop safety glasses($6 for the frames). I may also add in a tiny round pair($19 for the frames) that I can wear under my scuba mask.
    I prefer to buy the large looking shop safety frames for hiking outdoors or kayaking or archer because they give good field of view. I prefer to buy a the black basic military style frames because they are small and fit in my pocket for when I go on vacation. My expensive glasses are only used for special occasions. After 10 years, I have 1 pair left that is barely functioning, of the original 5 pair. It is a pair of safety shop glasses. This video is a good review of the online company.👍

    I HATE ZENNI!
    I’ve been a customer for three years, ordering at least two pairs of prescription glasses a year-just for fun. They have a great selection and amazing prices. They used to have great customer service and stood behind their products. That all changed this year. *January 2019- I ordered a new pair of prescription glasses. This time the prescription in the right lens was incorrect. Sent it back and told it was Zenni’s mistake. They made a new pair of prescription glasses with the same frame. Three months later, I received my replacement, but the left nose guard was missing. U contacted Zenni and was told they would send me a new nose guard. I received it in May, but couldn't put it on the wire nose prop. The plastic was stuck together. Contacted Zenni AGAIN. After trying all of the customer service person's hints on what to do, even though I told him it the tiny plastic nub was stuck together; leaving no room for it to slip onto the wire, his solution was for Zenni to ship me replacement frames. Then I would only have to pop out the lens from the broken frame and pop them into the new frames. I don't feel comfortable POPPING out prescription lens. At this point, I am frustrated! I ask if I can send the glasses back for a credit, so I can buy another pair of glasses with different frames. I’m told that I will only get 50% credit, because the second pair of glasses was partially paid for with credit Zenni gave me from the first pair of glasses that was badly made???? I tried to talk to a supervisor, but no one wanted to help me. I gave up talking to a wall of indifference and decided to take off the remaining nose guard from the second pair of prescription glasses I received and wear them as back up glasses. PLUS, I’M NEVER ORDERING FROM ZENNI AGAIN. I don't know if they changed management at the beginning of 2019 or just stopped caring about customers. I promised them I would be telling everyone within the sound of my voice to never buy from Zenni from now one. Plus, I plan on using social media and GOOGLE to warn other people about their change of customer and quality service.. SHAME ON ZENNI FOR TREATING A VALUED CUSTOMER SO POORLY!

    • @gypsyqueen1339
      @gypsyqueen1339 5 років тому

      After this and other complaints on social media, I got full credit from Zenni. Thank God for social media and UA-cam. :) Before it, customers were left with only complaining to the BBB which did nothing for the customer.
