Marian McPartland was just the best. I heard her sit in with a band in San Francisco, where my brother-in-law played clarinet for some business event. The whole band was stunned when she started to play.
No kidding John. There Will Never Be Another Marian in my lifetime. I truly enjoyed here piano interviews with so many pianists through the years. However, how about Diana Crawl? (Spelling?)
Saw her play un-officially with her husband at the Lytellton club in London back in the 50's. AS a trad fan I was more taken by Jimmy McParlands playing, but I later got to appreciate her brilliant playing and her personality.
I met Marian at the Village Cookery in 1971. She was playing Friday and Saturday night sets for Barney Josephson. Not only was her music brilliant, but she was simply down to earth, kind and motherly ! She would have dinner with me and talk of her youth in England. During her sets, I had to be reminded that I was at work !
Lovely, from another time, same place, our city of hope. I recognize the others playing with her, but as always wish they would be given credit here. Joe Morello and Bill Crow, drums and bass respectively. Thank you dear lady, your class and generosity of spirit were your calling card and shine through in you playing. Thank you, David Cox
This was my Facebook post tonight. I'm going to sign off Facebook a little early tonight. Remembering the Great First Lady of Jazz tonight. She was a compliment to all the great jazz artists young and old for decades. After a long and illustrious career she left us today at the age of 95. There probably won't be another one like her....
This is the first time listening Mrs. McPartland and I can be here the rest of the night. This is one of the most classiest jazz player I have seen. Without hesitation I went to Amazon and ordered two of her records. This is esquisite. Tony Gonzalez, ORlando, Fl
She may not have been the flashiest, but she will always be the classiest. What a musician she was.
Marian's Piano Jazz program was appointment radio for me on Saturday afternoons. Marian and her music have a place in my heart.
One of my first introductions to Jazz 60 years ago was Oscar Peterson & Marion McPathland. They still rank amongst the highest in mind.
I love the way she hangs behind the beat in the heads, like a good jazz singer.

I wish I had seen her live. Her radio shows were like weekly church to me; they gave me inspiration.
I was lucky enough to see her with Joshua redman
npr has quite a few episodes of piano jazz available to stream for free. jarrett, evans, corea, to eubie blake and on and on.
With the great Joe Morello on drums, providing the tasteful brush work.
There Will Never Be Another Marian McPartland.
I still remember listening to her show on the radio... all those years... she was totally cool.

Marian McPartland occupies a lot of turf in my discography, one of the most recorded women of all~
Melodic merriment by Marian.
A young pretty girl jazz pianist back in the day...Marion held her own and with Jimmy she did it all.
Beautiful ending!
Happy Birthday to the forever spirit of Marian McPartland - 3/20 first day of Spring!
There's Joe Morello on drums--before Marian loaned him to Dave Brubeck. Bass player may be Bill Crow.
It's Bill

"Another You"--in the key of G. (An extra challenge.)
Marion. Play it!
Sounds a bit like Erroll Garner, and very joyful.
FZ looks quite content, as if he knows he's in good hands.
