Remember when Jesus called His Apostles His friends? What a model our Lord gave us when He taught us with His words and actions to "lay down your life for a friend"! Thank you Father for sharing your beautiful heart with us. Please know your counsel touches our hearts.
Thank you for all your videos they definitely give me something to think about. When I say vocal prayers I always think. Who am I saying this to and for what purpose
Fr. Columba thank you for this video I've been attempting to do a holy hour each day. My only thoughts/feelings I had by the end was "Wow, God I've been a terrible friend." Obviously I can't control God's will be alot of times it ends up being a trama dump everyday with feelings of unsatisfaction to make God feel bad about me than hopefully heal me in someway.
A Friendship is when the most important person in the relationship is the other person. Listen to the other... Thank you Fr. Columba for telling us not to put jelly in the toaster 🥰
Wow. Fr Columba this was just the struggle I was having with my prayers. I prayed so many "God give me" rather than recognizing He has given me so many blessings and that I should want to love Him first. Truly good insight, thank you Fr! God bless.
I know I have always been a good friend and I had good friends, but since all this evilness in the world I withdrew from everyone, even from my best friend. But it wasn't only political, that brought me to this, but the fact that I drew closer to God, Church, practicing my Catholic faith, and me trying to live the Gospel. I really miss my family and friends. But it seems we don't have anything in common any more. Pray for me please
I started writing a long message with a story about when I walked into an irish pub and found Wisdom and Charity sharing a pint. They had ordered one for me already eventhough I didn't really know them. But I'm just going to finish laughing first (after crying, again!), and then just say a very pedestrian ...thanks, God. For everything, but in particular for giving us this beautiful messenger, Fr. Columba
I ran across this channel today, and wow, am I glad! I have really been enjoying the videos and content, and have been sharing videos with others already. 🙂 I really needed to hear this message, and I thank you for your kind spiritual guidance. Blessings and peace 🕊️

Can you please do a video on how to have good conversations without gossip or by having friendships with friends or family that are not trying to follow God, trying to be close them while avoiding sin.
Thank you so much Fr Columba.this is very helpful foe my prayer life. I am always looking to feel consolations during prayer. I want to make it about God.
My circle of friends has been challenged by illness the past few years: Covid, and cancer. We have all rallied around each other, doing small favours such as dog-walking when someone is at a hospital appointment, to taking round food, and shopping for each other. It's a great comfort to have solid friendships. I do like that you emphasize that we need to look to God for all our needs ultimately. You sounded just like my family in Coleraine/Limavady right at the end there!
Excellent talk and it's a game changer for sure ! At the end ... the only things you were missing were a straw hat, overalls and a jug of moonshine BAHAHAHAHA also fewer teeth would really sell it ... This has helped me when it isn't easy to pray .... ON SPIRITUAL DRYNESS WHILE PRAYING THE ROSARY Even if you suffer from dryness of soul, boredom and interior discouragement, never give up even the least little bit of your Rosary--for this would be a sure sign of pride and faithlessness. On the contrary, like a real champion of Jesus and Mary, you should say your Our Fathers and Hail Marys quite drily if you have to, without seeing, hearing or feeling any consolation whatsoever, and concentrating as best you can on the mysteries. You ought not to look for candy or jam to eat with your daily bread, as children do----but you should even say your Rosary more slowly sometimes when you particularly find it hard to say. Do this to imitate Our Lord more perfectly in His agony in the garden: "Being in an agony, He prayed the longer," so that what was said of Our Lord (when He was in His agony of prayer) may be said of you too: He prayed even longer. (St. Louis de Montfort, Secret of the Rosary)
I’m not sure who Fr Columba’s spiritual director is, likely the prior of his priory. We made a video about spiritual direction which you might enjoy: ua-cam.com/video/aYL8nxmBEEM/v-deo.html
Does anyone else have the thing that: - if you’re not feeling anything during prayer, you think it must be because you’re not being spiritual enough? I do, even though I know it’s not true.
Thank you for your comment, Elizabeth! That is a very common experience. Even St. Teresa of Calcutta had many years of spiritual dryness/winters, where she felt nothing during prayer. However, her patience and perseverance through prayer helped her become the incredible saint that she is! Though spiritual winters come, there is often is spring and summer, too. Maybe a Catholic retreat or some spiritual direction can help if you are struggling right now. You and your intentions are in our prayers! God bless, Hope
@@ctmcatholic I live in western North Carolina USA. The nearest church is in town, which is thirty minutes away but I don't drive. So I read the bible and the books of St. Augustine and I pray daily.
Thanks a lot for talking about friendship father! I have a question, what happens when you try to be a good friend but who is supposed to be your friend behaves selfishly or not in the way that we are all supposed to be friend of someone?
That is a great question. I think it mostly depends on how frequently and why this friend is acting selfishly. If it’s infrequent or unintentional maybe you can talk to them about it and sort the problem. If it’s all the time and unlikely to change then maybe that person isn’t so healthy to have in your life. If you’re able to help them without hurting yourself that’s great, but you are not called to keep bad friendships especially if they are harmful to you and the other person doesn’t want to be helped.
Lots of love with no expectations, Fr. Jordan. YES.
Absolutely love love love your podcasts Fr Columba! So succinct, focussed messages that cut riggt through! Please don't stop. So powerful...
