At the Kennedy Airport, Miss Channing was about to get into a long long white limo, when I yelled out to her, "Love you Carol !" She stopped, looked at me with roses in her arms, walk up to me and gave me a huge hug and said " Love you too darling. " than a big man took her arm and escorted to her limo and she was whisked away. When I got into my taxi, I found a single rose petal stuck in my jacket. I still have it. What a thrill, what a true lady and legend. One classy women indeed to treat her fans with such love. Bless her.
Dear J. Louis V., I am hoping with all of my heart, for you, that this story truly happened. If not, thank you for kindly sharing your thoughtful words! I have always simply adored Carol Channing. Every time I hear her sing, “Hello, Dolly!” I tear up. She was such a beautiful and lovely lady. Cherish your rose petal.
joe stewart I mean people are more open and honest about how they feel now and are more free to express themselves, you didn’t have those same freedoms back then. This may look nice in a bubble, but you need to really critically think about what that would mean for your character socially and personally, it’s not all happy and perfect in reality.
It's mostly pretend. This expectation stifles any self expression. Real emotions and individual thought is heavily suppressed. Violence and abuse gets kept in the dark. Women and children had no way out from abusive father's/husband's. And the way people dressed and behaved on TV in the 50s did not actually represent most people. We bought into a false narrative about the 50s.
One of a kind. My mother did a perfect imitation of her. She should've been the film, not Streisand, who was completely wrong. It was the same mistake not casting Julie Andrews in the film version of "My Fair Lady". Not just cinematic but historical blunders.
Yes, I loved the way she carried herself! Genuine and humourous. She looked like she felt lucky and happy to be before the camera, everytime she came in front of it. Such a great attitude, mindfulness in motion. Part of my childhood!
Carol is such a doll! So stinking adorable, how can you not love her facial expressions!? And in regards to your comment about Carol doing some shamelss plugging...that was the whole point of being a guest panelist, to plug whatever movie or show you were currently in or about to do. Some just more blatantly than others.
She is hysterical...and it's the real deal. It would be very easy to think her behavior is some kind of up-play but she is no different today than she was back then. She still lays it on thick and shines. Something about her just causes happiness.
"I know what you are thinking, did I fire 7 shots or 6? Well to tell you the truth, with all this confusion I've forgotten myself. So you have to ask yourself just one question. Do I feel lucky? Well do ya punk?"
It'd be so fun and neat if this show came back on now, but with current celebs (or if some are still alive now...anyone on this show originally could come back on)! Even if it was a temporary thing!
It's so nice to see the late, great Carol Channing on this show. She had a great life of making people laughed and applauded on Broadway and on television. She will be missed. RIP Miss Carol.
Great to see both Tony Randall and Martin Gabel on the panel together! I love seeing Martin and Arlene next to one another on the panel! What a fun clip! Thank you for including the intro!
3:22- Martin Gabel's incorrect guess of 'Pearl Bailey' was surprisingly close. Not only had Pearl Bailey taken over the leading role of 'Hello, Dolly' from Miss Channing but, in 2002 when she was 81 Miss Channing would reveal that she herself was part African-American via her own paternal grandmother!
Oh, wonderful. Dorothy might have guessed her had she been on the panel. What a great show that was. If I could have 2 back again it would be WML and Paar.
In the village I grew up in, we had an Ice Cream "Parlor" called the Goody Shop. They made their own delicious Ice Cream and served the best burgers & fries on the planet.. My parents would go in every Friday night and get that wonderful I.C. for us. One Friday, Mom walked in and there was a man standing at the counter. She recognized him as our plumber! She said hello - he said hello...how are you? Fine and you? Fine, thank-you! It turned out to be Martin Gable! Martin & Arlene Francis, along with Bennett Cerf lived in my small town. We laughed over that one for years!
"And it's in colour too. Yes it is." Carol's too cute! Now that's what I call a plug! I'd be her friend. I wish I could get a letter from Arlene too. Ah, Martin and Arlene sitting together. What a lovely couple.
Never mind, I just found the date on another link to this: What's My Line? - Carol Channing; PANEL: Tony Randall, Helen G. Brown, Martin Gabel (Feb 6, 1966)
How sad.. When Carol was touring with Hello, Dolly! she flew back to New York on the weekends for cancer treatment. It's just sad to see her not admit to it :(
I like how one of the host said ‘someone you all know and love’ and I was like ‘who the heel is that the only two I knew was Tony Randall and Carol Channing’ to think that the stars hold such high regards we know today will be forgotten years from now.
thank you for sharing the walk-on. For my two-cents, I don't think Tony Randal was being a dick, it was just his sense of humour, I found it funny and amusing.
There is a definite 'ticked-off', tone in the voices of the 'regulars'. This nearly perfectly executed attempt to 'fool-the-panel' is a treat that in the History of this Show was long over-due. Randal and Gabel carping about: "what are YOU doing in New York?.." is a hoot. For way too long, the WML panelist, had a pretty damn clear knowledge of who was going to be the 'Mystery guest', after all, they're ALL in the Entertainment business and know each others where abouts, through various Agents, gossips, and reporters, and mostly via smoozing each other in Bars or in restaurants.
Carol Channing does an amazing Ryan Styles impression.
😂😂😂
Lol. Exactly what I was thinking.

It's other way around, it's Ryan Styles impressions of Caral Channing,,I think you switch by accident
@@coreyhill681 I guess I'll step in the OP is probably long gone it was a joke they were swapped on purpose
Ryan Styles sounds more like her than she does.

What a beautiful spirit Ms.Channing had. RIP to a wonderful person 💔
Always happy. Never saw her any other way.

I think she got it from her mother side of the family. 💜
How can anyone not love Carol Channing! She is an amazing positive personality

Hey look, it's Ryan Stiles!
martin gabel...."I pass to my wife" Arline" why did you do that ?"lol

It's impossible not to love Carol Channing. What a sweetheart.
And I always love seeing Arlene -- a perennial breath of fresh air.
Rest in peace. Carol was loved by the whole world. She was, indeed, a Blazing Star!
Carol was loved by the world that knew her, and she absolutely loved the whole world.
I wonder if she would have been if they had known she was a black woman. She had to keep that a secret way back then. So sad.
She is hysterical...and it's the real deal. It would be very easy to think her behavior is some kind of up-play but she is no different today than she was back then. She still lays it on thick and shines. Something about her just causes happiness.
I love Carol Channing! Adorableness to the max. She's 92 now. BLESS HER HEART!

Carol Channing... what a delightful woman she was. Her laughter is infectious 💕🌸💕
Tony Randall is fucking hilarious!!! So sarcastic!
Carol is such a cutie n-n

I saw CC in person, all I saw was this enormous smile passing me by. She was one of those people who look all lit up, even with no light on them.

When T. Randall says, "There's some whispering going on that MIGHT be from the audience..." he sounds like an elementary school tattle tale!

I can't help but laugh seeing her face at 2:29 and the thumb nail for her 2012 interview, it's almost the exact same expression.
i prefer Ryan's Carol Channing over Carol Channing's Carol Channing
I just love her voice. :)
