The actors are wonderful in this radio play. I forgot they were acting completely and got totally caught up in their relationship :) 🌷🌱

I'm so saddened at the end. It's amazing how well you can paint the scenes in your own mind with the right voice actors. I'm so glad I found this channel.

Wow. Len had a heart of gold then he struck Enid. The constant smoking references created an anticipation that it was going to lead to tragic circumstances. Interesting how also loyal servant class is easily oppressed by false allegations of property theft by the rich. As a servant, don't get in situations that could lead to entrapment & false accusations from the ruling class

This was such a good story but I was a little confused when Mr. Coopers wife showed up at the end. He slapped his wife then what happened? Then he died!

Mr. Cooper had a heart attack and died. At the end his family and Alice's son and daughter and their spouses are graveside at the end of the burial. Alice's son and daughter invite Enid and Mr. Cooper's son to have tea with them. Suddenly all are very civilized and, I suspect, feeling guilty. But Alice refuses to go along. She prefers to sit a bit longer at his grave. It is clear from her final words that she has grown so close to Mr. Cooper that she longs to join her friend in death, which won't be very long in coming.

Interesting - this play was written by Owen Holder and first published September 20, 2014 but basically it is a copy of Driving Miss Daisy a play written by Alfred Uhry, in 1987 and later made into a film starring Jessica Tandy and Morgan Freeman. Not cool Mr Holder.... not cool at all.

Do you think that every story in the world is unique? Bronte heard about a mad woman being locked away in her neighborhood. Shakespeare borrowed all his plots. It's about who did it best.

@@tessaoshea5697Borrowing a plot is one thing but an almost identical copy is something else. But then again if you are correct I may just start my own version..... Mary Plotter - the story of a young girl, with square framed glasses and two good friends that goes to a special school called Gothparts located in Ireland and learns about super powers whilst playing Flopdish ..... I can just see the millions rolling in....or maybe JKR's lawyers may just chew me up and spit me out!

An interesting play, because there were negative elements in everyone.
While Len never wanted to take advantage of Alice, he never established boundaries. He also chose his employer over his wife a number of times. Not to mention slapping Enid when she'd had enough of his behavior.
Alice was also selfish, using her dwindling days on Earth as leverage to make her grateful employee indulge her far too often.
And the families of Len and Alice were at times jealous and mean-spirited, coming up with unfounded suspicions and acting out of resentment.
    I thought this was a well-written play.

How can people people be so self centered, just plain mean, and not join in (his wife). My god, she’s 85! She’s charming - why can’t that miserable wife join in instead of complaining and whining. Just awful people!!
A commenter below said the ending was so sad, so I’m turning it off now 52:17 . Don’t like bad endings to stories like this just cause the author thought it should end that way! It’s not showing from within the story that things can be bad, but from without. It’s not Dickens or the Brontës. So I’m leaving them happy :) 🌷🌱
