Thanks for all the cheer, entertainment and info in 2023. Now that I seem to be out of the market for new pens, inks, and paper, I'll stick around in 2024 just for the good company.
Poor Coco, he is back on his plan now and he managed to weigh in under his "max" at his check up .... we were doing better before Toby came inside ... but I've got a pattern again and picking up the plates making sure meals are not "grazing" is helping. I would so much like for him to be under 16 pounds. I know we can get there but it takes time and incredible consistency.
Happy New Year, Chris! You have a full plate but you make it look easy. I appreciate how you pour yourself into your channel - your dedication to all of the details. You are an indispensable part of the fountain pen community. I've been absent due some issues but after watching this whole video, I am reminded how much I get out of them. Hi Erin - thank you for the prayers for Mom. She is now at the rehab (inpatient) and will start Monday, Jan. 8 with PT and OT .... she's pretty overwhelmed but I keep telling her progress is what is important. Happy New Year!!!!

Watched your video late. Wanted to know about how your East of Eden read went. Glad to know that you enjoyed it. I just started it today. Also glad to hear your mom is doing well. Funny how we feel about fountain pens. We take care of them as they take care of us with the knowledge that they will be passed along.
Think I will still be in rehab (PT and OT after my November cardiac events) through January, so it's just my Platinum pocket pen and Platinum Carbon Black until I get out. Not feather proof on some paper, but not awful, so still very usable for me. Pen being a Japanese fine, I'm sure, is helping.😁 I get talking about your pets. I can talk your ear off about my very elderly (b)rat terrier, Aednat, myself. 😁 She's the longest I've ever had a dog, and we have stories, now. 😉 I understand priorities. I think I can count on one hand the number of pens I bought (for myself 😉) in 2023. Think I got more in vintage inks... Other things had priority. And my health, recently, has eaten money I'd not intended to spend... I understand why it's called "the Golden Years," now. Taking much more gold to survive. 😁 Wishing you, Manuel and the cats a very happy New Year! And hoping and praying for a speedy recovery for your mom!
Hi Paul - I am praying for a speedy recovery for you too ... you must miss home and your dog a lot. Mom was starting PT yesterday in the hospital and it was discouraging for her when she had to walk and they use a gait belt and a "leftie" gismo so she can steady herself on the left side ... no pressure at all can be put on the right arm/shoulder. Ah yes, the gold it takes to get all the needed things seems to be much more these days!!!! Happy New Year Paul!!! My little Platinum pocket pen is writing great and going places with me when I get out!!!!

I do like wearing bright colours, especially on a dull dank day.......for some reason it makes me feel brighter in myself. I remember in the late 60s, when reading Far From the Madding Crowd for English lessons. The movie (with Julie Christie as Bathsheba, and is my preferred version of the movie) was doing the rounds in the local cinemas, but so was a Dracula movie (with Christopher Lee) that my friends and I wanted to go and watch. We were 14 at the time, and not officially old enough to go and watch the Dracula movie. We only had enough pocket money to watch one movie. We opted to go, and watch the Dracula movie (I guess we looked old enough because the cashier let us purchase the tickets, and the usherette didn't ask us to leave), but told our parents that we were going to watch the Far From the Madding Crowd movie 😂😂. Happy New Year to all 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Happy New Year Annie! Oh that's funny about the Dracula movie vs Far From the Madding Crowd lol. I want to watch that version of the movie AFTER I finish the book. I think I ruined Anna Karinina by having seen the movie first. I never did completely finish that book having a fear of the sad turn I knew it was going to take. Yes, this hoodie makes me wish I had more than 2 with bright colors but I do have the zip up kind in red and green and a few nice colors .... so I can layer. :) I just feel the cold so much more now.
Love looking at your inked pens for the month! I was a bit early with my January inked pens this time, since all my December pens finished early. It got me looking through my lists of inked pens for the year and noticed I inked up Diamine - Sherwood Green numerous times! So I'd say that was my most used ink for the year. Happy New Year Chris!

east of eden is a very interesting book. It's a bit unbalanced (in the two parts), but a great book. Maybe I'll re-read some Thomas Hardy in 2024. I'm using (for the 1ts time) a Hobonichi Weeks as an ink/pen journal for 2024.
