As a guitarist the fact that it took so long for Sister Rosetta Tharpe to get this recognition is a disgrace. She shredded before the rest. But she is there as she rightfully deserves a thousand times more than most in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
SHES THE MOTHER OF ROCK OF AND ROLL
Completey agree. Grosses me out to think of how long, she should've been 1st.
@@jubileeflymusic that's because rock and roll hall of fame most of the time is musically challenged once in a while they get it right
Hall of fame created by white man.
Truly a shame, she should be the first one to be introduced indeed
She created Rock n Roll... and she just got inducted, wow.
Living in America do that even surprise you?
Yeah but is she really famous outside of music nerd circles. I didn't know who the hell she was until a couple years ago. Well I guess she's now famous because she was inductee. Lol!
@@harmono8766, she had inspired Chuck Berry, Johnny Cash, and Elvis so I am sure she was plenty famous enough at some point.
Maybe it was music nerd circles who let America down on celebrating her legacy.
Finn MacCool She definitely did early rock is directly influenced by the blues. It’s almost hard to separate early rock from Chicago electric blues or “Blues Rock” there are some stylistic differences tho which is why SRT is THEE “inventor” of the genre even tho African Americans were already singing like this in bars and clubs she brought it to the public consciousness
Finn MacCool Now you’re just exposing your own beliefs YOU don’t want a black bisexual woman to have been the originator of the genre but facts remain facts. Now no no one is saying she sat down and thought “I’m gonna make a new genre called rock n’ roll” to say she invented it just credits her as the true originator of the what could be classified as the genres early sound. She is the first RnR artist to take on all its characteristics to make it a separate genre from blues. Her being a black bisexual has absolutely nothing to do with it. Credit is due where credit is due my guy
She said it so right. So long overdue that Sister Rosetta Tharpe did not receive the recognition as one of the precursor and pioneer of rock n roll. Her influence spans from the likes of Chuck Berry to Keith Richards, Eric Clapton and more. If the hands of time and can really be turned back, I would pay good money to watch Sister Rosetta's live performance.
Sister Rosetta Tharpe.....The Godmother of Rock N Roll. Chuck Berry copied her guitar style, Elvis, Cash & Louis was inspired by the soul she had in her songs. God Bless Her!!
Sister Rosetta Tharpe should of been the first person inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
So why wasn't she!? 😡
@@chrissimpson6701In her day, women were frowned upon for playing like she did. Also, she was very likely a lesbian, which further marginalized her. Consequently, her career never boarded the hype train.
My Lord!! She embodied Rosetta Tharpe to a T!
I SAY Mother of Rock and Roll 🎸 xo
Am glad Sister Rosetta Thorpe has finally made it. Long long overdue.
Great choice on having Brittney Howard to cover this piece also. Couldn’t had made a better choice. Bravo👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Now all they need to do is induct the Dixie humming birds. Not only are they arguably the oldest rock n roll band to still be perfroming(91 yaers I think) but we’re a major inspiration for most of the early inductee like the temptations,James brown.and Steve wonder and also kind of invented do wop
@@notchuckproductions5029 Ira Tucker and Jimmy Walkers voices were beyond this world! And the way the group could roar the sing chords with finesse and ad-lib... Second to none! They are rightfully called the Gentlemen of Song...
Felicia Collins, Brittany Howard, and Questlove got together to induct Sister Rosetta Tharpe into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. FOR THE CULTURE 😁😁😁
Damn good man!
What a performance!
Big Facts!! 💯
My gosh, she was a beast on the guitar no men or women couldn't touch her.
She is not the grandmother of rock and roll, she is not the queen of rock and roll, she is the Empress of rock and roll.
I'm gonna tell you the natural facts... People finally appreciated you Soul Sister and THAT'S ALL!
Way overdue but I'm glad Sister Rosetta is finally getting the praise and recognition that she rightly deserves.
Love Brittany Howard as well.
About time! How can you not conduct the first person who invented Rock n roll?!
No she didn't, there were many electric blues artists, but she was an early influence.
@@lucashernandez4345What artists shredded before her
@@lucashernandez4345 You laid out a premise, then you were asked to support it with evidence, but months later we still have crickets. Why?
The TRUE Queen of Rock N Roll.
Sister Rosetta rocked. its that simple.
Terrific!! I'm glad Sister Rosetta has finally been honoured here.
Forever a masterpiece.Such an epic song!.👏👏👏👏👏👏👍❤🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟✨✨✨
She should of been honoured while alive
Wow! So late in the game and she originated rock. Glad She finally got inducted. Way overdue.
Sister Rosetta has finally made it. I’m so so proud of her.❤️
CHILLS. ALL. OVER. Brittany singing Sister Rosetta Tharpe to induct her for laying the foundation for rock n roll is everything! Never to late to show appreciation for those who carved the way. Brittany did a brilliant job. Im sure Rosetta lookin down full of pride.
She did her justice but she should have done a faster pace song. Tharpe had some great ones.
@@meowco69 Should have been se eral songs to make up for all the time she was left out. Demonstrating interwoven gospel. R&B. Rosetta said "Rock and roll is just R&B speed up" so you're exactly right.
Did they go over how big an influence she was? This is all I can find. She needs far more exposure.
Sister Rosetta Tharpe was a great star and a genious talented artist, also Big Mama Thornton she was.
She should have been the first one in. The damn hall should be named after her for chrissakes. Great performance here by the way!
I first found out about SRT when my husband surprised me with a trip to the Rock and Roll HOF in Cleveland.... I was in my mid 20s!!! Why don’t more people know about her?! She is so bad a** and a true pioneer. Couldn’t think of a better person than Brittany Howard to pay homage. Love these women 😍😍😍💪
I literally just learned about her music and I'm inspired. She definitely should have been in RRHOF a long time ago
Long overdue but glad she finally got the recognition 👑
☺It's about time!☺~😇🙇Sister Rossetta Tarpe, your smiling down from heaven saying, what took ya'll so long!☺ I love you Sister Rossetta Tarpe, your music your guitar playing, you were the whole package. 😇🙏R.I.P. Ms. Rosetta Tarpe.😇🙇
La UNICA, GRANDE Y VERDADERA MADRE DEL ROCK AND ROLL, el resto vienen despues.
A little history. In the 1950s, the British idolized and loved black blues and R&B music and musicians, while american coopted and watered down this music and called it Rock and Roll. Then came the British Invasion of the 1960s. Gee, I wonder why.
There are musicians who play well and then there are those who have music running through every fiber of their body & soul. You can see it flow into their instrument. SIster Tharpe had that goin’ on in a big way. Very special lady.
THE ORIGINATOR!!!!!
Period
MERECIDO TRIBUTO A LA GRAN ROSETTA THORPE ---- POR SIEMPRE!!!
🌟Sister Rosetta Tharpe was WAY ahead of her time!! She is the Godmother of Rock 'n' Roll! ⭐🌟
It's about time.
As a guitar obsessed teen, I read every issue of Guitar Player magazine from 1978 until 1992. I learned all about Chuck Berry, Scottie Moore, Howling Wolf, Lightning Hopkins, and all the rock and blues pioneers.
However (and I would love to be corrected), as far as I know, Sister Rosetta Tharpe did not get mentioned even once in those 14 years.
Although I am delighted that she is finally getting the recognition she deserves, I have questions as to why it took this long.
Sister Rosetta Thorpe should have been one of the first to go into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame her and Big Mama Thornton. Is Big Mama Thornton in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame
Beautiful job, Brittany! ❤️
it's a shame, that it took her a long time to get in the r'n'r hall of fame, while a crap band like green day gets in for not inventing anything. this woman started the whole genre, and should have been inducted decades ago.
on the bright side, if she had been one of the first 10 inductees (if not the first) as she shouldve been, we wouldn't have this great tribute from the induction :p
Great ! A Great Voice in a unbelievable Woman !
Why would it take so long to induct the inventor of rock and roll in the rock and roll hall of fame?
A black person created America’s favorite music that’s why, it’s not that hard to figure out.
Because a BLACK WOMAN invented the genre. Consider the old boys who run this organization it should come as no surprise...
Highly unfair,
indeed
@@naujitking2868 Idiot go ask your DISHONOROBLE NIGGAS why they didn’t ??? Ok ???
The Great honor for the Rock n Roll Grandmama
30k views, that's it? She was one the originals of originals!
Should make a movie about her
Amazing!
Just learned all about her from balie sarians pod cast. She was amazing
Yes!!!🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Finally
Its about time, Big Mama Thornton bad too!!!
Perfect...
This is really awesome... Although I thought this had alread happened a long ago..
agradezco a mi profe de música por tocar el tema del rock and roll me hizo tener a sister Roseta Tharpe en mi lista de reproducción y mi cantante fav
Felicia Collins 🤟🏻
Hermoso!!!
She absolutey deserves her induction as a real pionner of r'n'r especially with her lead guitar playing.
But who 's the creator of r'n'r,I think it's almost impossible to say.Is that a boogie pianist,or a blues guitar player?.For instance,T Bone Walker, born in 1910 ,did he listen to Sister Rosetta Tharpe, born in 1915?
Is T Bone Walker less rock than Sister Rosetta Tharpe?
The thing is r'n'r was born in the black community. And to honor a black woman playing in those early years of r'n'r is a must.
Magnifica,❤️🇧🇷👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
It been way overdue she’s the mother!!!
FIRST!
🎶🎶🎶🇺🇲🎈🙏
100years to lait..
I'm looking for funding for my proposed film. Brittany Howard would play Sister Rosetta; I'd like to get Eric Clapton for the other main character. The name of the movie would be "God Gave Sister A Whammy Bar For An Hour."
WTF? Inducted till 2018? I thought it was the first one ever inducted.
History blows me history is always getting rewritten by gatekeepers and then we suppose to celebrate when they acknowledge a lie yet that still hasn’t changed the narrative b/c Elvis still the king of rock and roll
NARROW MINDED IDIOT
This was too long overdue. So irritating how black creatives keep getting the last leftover scraps when it comes to recognition. She should have been glorified when rock and roll was at its peak, not when it is an afterthought in public consciousness
Then don’t stop go ask your NIGGAS
She invented it and gets recognition when 🤣🤣🤣🤣 typical🙄
It’s more of an honor to not be inducted into the RRHOF.
Well this song was just butchered by voice and lyrics
