Memorizing Squares by Association - First 25 - Quick Mental Math Trick

  • In this video I show how to memorize squares of numbers up to 25 which will let you recall them in 2 seconds or less.
From my experience memorizing by association is much more efficient that memorizing by repetition.
I also make association not with random objects, but with number being squared or neighbor squares, which helps you recall the association easily.
First 25 squares are fundamental to calculating squares of bigger numbers - up to 100 an beyond - because of recurring pattern in the results. That will be covered in later episodes.
Calculating squares quickly also helps you use Method of Squares for multiplying two numbers, covered in my other videos.
On my channel you will find other videos with fast calculation methods, but also with logic puzzles and problem solving techniques.

2:35 - Byte is of course 8 bits, which allows to encode 256 values. Silly mistake on my part.

How can you remember 23 square
Just remembered if 22 square is 484 then 23 square is more than 500+ so 5. Take 23 and take 3's square. That is 5(2)from 23. (9) Which is after taking 2 from 23 remains only 3 so make its square. Which is 9 so it's 529

I've found another thing but maybe it only works for sqrs of 17,18 and 19 respectively like; 7*4=28 and now put 9 frm 7^2=49, u get 289 same for 18^2 = 324
Here again, 8*4=32 and then put 64's 4...
And similarly, for 19^2 just take 9 and mltply it with 4 u get 36 which is 1st 2 digits of the sqr and then put 1 frm 81 of 9^2
    And u get 361 !!!!
I knw it's silly but it works for me to remember this 3's sqrs. Coz, I found it very difficult until I related them like this.. lol

There are many different ways of learning something that are freely available on the web without having to buy some regurgitated system that is based on the same tried & tested techniques. However 'rote learning' of something does NOT impart understanding. The more you try to understand something the more you learn. Carl Fredrick Gauss a famous mathematician & lightening calculator said: “One must distinguish two things here; an extraordinary memory for numbers and true calculating ability. These are, in fact, two completely separate quantities that may be connected, but are not always.” Learning the simple criss-cross algorithm or the squares algorithm will go a long way to being able to compute all the squares up to 100 whilst becoming familiar with the number patters (as shown in this video) will help to retain these numbers for faster recall.
