It’s a challenging time for human rights and countless people around the world are still courageously fighting for their rights to be recognised. For many, justice, freedom and equality are still under threat. As Amnesty International celebrates our 60th anniversary we reflect on the challenges of the past, celebrate the courage and strength of our movement, and look ahead with hope and renewed commitment to continuing to stand strong against injustice.
Amnesty International was founded in 1961 on the idea that together ordinary people can change the world. Today Amnesty is a worldwide movement for human rights, calling on the collective power of 10 million people, each one committed to fighting for justice, equality and freedom everywhere.
