I love the 105; I flew as medevac crew for many years in western North Carolina. This thing is a frickin' BEAST. It does everything as advertised and more. I was never afraid because I knew I was flying in the best, with the best crew and one of the best A/P mechanics in the world! I still call it a MBB, even though I think Airbus owns them now. Ahh the good old days....
The best helicopter, in my view, for all tasks and missions it was designed to perform and more , top within its class. Systems redundancy , rigid hingeless rotor system provides safety and agility every pilots desire. Overally , a dream flying machine.
I've been a year around and in them in my military days. I was one of the pol crew members of the 299 squadron in the Netherlands. We had a bunch of these awesome helicopters. They still give me goosebumps and I recognize their sound anywhere. You don't see them a lot here anymore, It's all EC135's that replaced them.
By the way I clocked around 1,540hrs on it many years ago. Not only flew but also instructing on type- conversion courses. I'm also proud being able to perform the post- maintenance a/c operational test sorties (trained by MBB factory flt school, Munchen, Germany prior that) . So as part of my duties within our small fleet/organisation equally vital in ensuring their airworthiness: looking back actually much risker performing post maintenance flts than on already certified/ 'serviceable' airframe, laterally, in my view.
Brunei Darussalam is also one the country that use the BO 105 Helicopter under Royal Brunei Air Force until its retirement in February 2022 after 41 years of service.
I would love a video explaining the details about this rotor head (and the older constructions that came before) Also did the technical solution of fixed blades / fixed rotor head survive and is still in use today ?
Why does Andreas say it was the first helicopter to do a loop (in 1972} when there’s video of the Sikorsky CH-53A doing loops over Long Island Sound on October 23, 1968?

The bk117 is my favorite of all time. I don’t like the rolls Royce engines most 105s have. Turbomeca, lycoming, Pratt all are really good. But the rolls design. I can’t tell you how many times I have to motor the starter to get the TOT/EGT down below 150 before I can start. That retain so much heat
Hi, let me try to explain; the swashplate is still needed and functions similar as all other helicopter designs but ; a) the Glass Reinforced Plastic rotor blades at their neck area, provides bending action to accomodating lead and lag, flap up and down during each rotor's 360 deg rotation about the hub/rotor mast (hence hingeless technology) . Meanwhile the pinching hinge action is accommodated in the conventional way, due to actions of pitching push rod precisely controlled by the swashplate mechanism ; b) To prevent excessive 'bending' hence stress to the main rotor mast by the rotor aerodynamic forces( esp at 100%rpm) especially when the heli is still on the ground, a 'mast- moment' sensor meter helps the pilot to monitor, and not to overcontrol the cyclic and lever while performing take off and landing; c) As a consequence of Titanium hub, grp blades combination- so called ' semi rigid arrangement' , pilot inputs thro the swashplate achieve a fantastic agility - in flying manoeuvre .... even birds are jealous. I hope my 'lay man' explanation at least make a little bit clear. Disclaimer:- I am not an expert on this subject, though.

She is a real wild lady :)
It looks like a puffer fish. But I have still loved it too.
I think it’s the world’s sexiest helicopter.😍😱
Spent many hours in and working aaround the 105. Best years of my life greatly missed
me too :(
Legendary, one of the few aircraft deserving of that title.
I always Love that footage of the BO105 Going like mad thru the Forest. They show a couple of clips from it in here.
