    I have one, and it has no dead stick on the controler, they have put some expo in the transmitter, so it feels like a dead stick. When in High rates sticks react faster, so less expo and more travel. Also what you did not notice, is that in 6G mode it has differentiaal controls on the rudder and ailerons, they move together.
    When I bought mine it was around $70, all prices have sadly gone up

    • @ricchatrc
      @ricchatrc  2 роки тому

      G'day, I noticed this more in 3G mode where there is no differential control on the other surfaces. So when I actually fly the plane in 3G mode, my usual up and down elevator controls felt delayed somewhat (as if a large amount of expo is used) causing more over control to compensate for the lack of initial control. It's not so much a problem if you already know how to fly, but I felt that for a beginner, it would take you by surprise until you got used to it. In 6G mode, it's perfect - the plane flies by itself. All anyone has to do is bank for turns. And yes, prices are ridiculous right now.

    I already had a Jumper T8SG radio so I set that to the KN - WlToys protocol and that works great. The channels 1-4 are TAER and the rates and mode channels are on channel 5 and 8, but I can't recall which is for what at the moment. I increased the throws on the control surfaces mechanically and now it's quite good at rolls and loops. The throttle channel I had to adjust for a gap before minimum throttle. The flight control board had come loose they forgot to uncover the sticky tape on one side, and it kept crashing on launch until I found that, but no damage and I'm really loving it now. I agree it would be nice to have an accurate TX out of the box though.

      Thanks for the feedback, great to hear. I don't have a multi-protocol YET, but will have in the future. I opened up the Tx to see if there was anything I could tinker /adjust, but decided not to fiddle with it.

    I agree with your findings. One thing I have noticed is the amount of play between the servo arm and the wire (the wire is very loose in the hole). I may try to find a way to reduce this play, it won’t completely remove the dead spot but I think it will help.

    Hello, i have this plane and flew it for maybe a week but then the servo for the elevator suddenly stopped working, ive had 2 hard landings. What could be the problem?

    • @ricchatrc
      @ricchatrc  Рік тому

      Hi, I experienced something similar with my aileron servo. It malfunctioned unexpectedly during a flight and I lost control without understanding why at the time. Then I realised the humming sound from my aileron servo which had failed and caused the plane to spiral to the ground, or rather, into someones tree next to the park. I reckon the servos are just cheap and eventually sooner or later, they malfunction. Sounds like your elevator servo has failed, or is failing intermittantly. You can buy a spare and replace it if you want, like I did with my aileron servo. It's not a long term model. Sounds like you can have some good luck or bad luck with it - just depends. I'd say it's a good introduction model only , but that's it. Cheers.

      There are good and bad and average experiences at times. You can be on a roll and have good luck, or you can have some bad luck which throws you off. The bad ones are the learning curves - I hope you continue to have another go, even with a different model. Most of them are pretty okay. Have fun......

      Hi Conrad. I wish it was possible because I too have a Spektrum DX6i that I use to fly my Blade 400. I would have loved to be able to use my DX6i Tx to fly this plane. Unfortunately it can't be done, I've tried it and it doesn't work with this model. But if you purchase a multi-protocol radio like the Jumper or the Radio Master, it will bind and work with these radios. I don't have one yet, but I have seen on other channels that it works - no problem. That's what multi-protocol is all about. Eventually I'll get one and when I do, I will use it to fly this plane with a lot more control.

    Love the video. I’m in the UK and have a little experience from years ago with RC. However I’d like to get back into it with electric and was looking at this model. The info you’ve given is invaluable so many thanks for that. Could you recommend a safe all in one kit for a relatively new flyer. What about the SKY KING 3CH 750MM RTF REMOTE CONTROLLED GLIDER. Any thoughts? Cheers, Ken

    • @ricchatrc
      @ricchatrc  3 роки тому

      Hey Ken, the Sky King sound pretty good I must admit. I don't have one and I haven't flown one but I guess a 3 channel plane of this size is a pretty good way to start. It's going to be light weight, easy to launch by hand and the propeller is protected from a nose dive or nose in hit to the ground when landing. All the reviews I've come across support this. Sounds like a good thing. You'll develop some good skills with only rudder and elevator to worry about and with enough height you'll still have plenty of airspace to get out of trouble if you over control in any way. I've noticed the Tx for the Sky King looks similar, if not the same as the Tx for XK A800 (depending which video you've come across) so I'm wondering whether it suffers from the same dead zone travel movement in the sticks. If you don't get a 3 channel like the Sky King, then anything else with stabilization will help also. The Sky King is obviously good value for money to begin with. You don't have to spend a lot, and spare parts are available, which is nice! Good to hear you're getting back into it. Stick with it - you won't be disappointed. Cheers.

      As a beginner I did not like the Skyking at all. Very top heavy and flips over in very mild wind Even though it is of a lot better quality than the XK800.
      XK has great handling, but horrible quality.
      Think something like Volantex Ranger 1600 is a better alternative.

  • @Rocketman0407
    @Rocketman0407 4 місяці тому

    I had 3 of them and have now given up on them. Flys very easily for a noob. Incredibly smooth. However the quality of the electronics have been garbage had everything from broken servos to failed engines on these without even crashing.
    Looking for a similar feel aircraft. It must be a puller.
    I am looking at the Volantex Phoenix 1600mm, but I am open to suggestions.

    • @ricchatrc

      These entry level planes are a good start for those testing the waters. Is RC for me, do I really like this hobby, is it just a fad which will fall away in months to come. Saves you having to spend $200 plus on a model and then separate radio gear that you may not use at all in the long run. And then finding yourself having to sell. Yes the electronics are cheap. I wasnt happy with mine either after a while. When you get over the "Wow" factor, you soon realise the limitations. You can be lucky and unlucky with quality also. I decided to try this knowing it was a package. I don't want another Tx everytime I purchase something like this. What's the point. If you purchase a plane of your choice, (ie: the Volantex) and then purchase a quality radio system, (ie: a multi-protcol Tx) I believe you'll be better off.

    • @Rocketman0407
      @Rocketman0407 4 місяці тому

      @@ricchatrc I had 3 separate models and they failed every time. I also had a Skyking 600 with a pusher. Quality was fine on that but it was really top heavy and handled horribly at least as a noob. The tínyest gust of wind would flip it over.
      Right now I am just saving up while I fly my simple 3 channel reaper drone.
      Limited in handling and power, but still fun. Also got
      A small Cub I have not tried 5 channel as well
      As a micro glider similar to the dancing wing ones
      I assembled most I just need to install the servos and install the engine and receiver.
      A VTOL FPV plane with a DJI system would be the dream, but it’s close to 1k. Maybe in the future.
      For now I will get a better glider like the Phoenix and install a budget FPV system and GoPro on it once I get some more money.
      Thanks for the tips on the radio setup.

    I've been flying 3 chanel planes and gliders for years. I'm pretty good and calm about it, I ve just bought the A 800, and flown it a few times I've kept it in 6 g mode, I've not crashed it at all but I find it a very twitchy plane to fly. I bought it to help me learn to fly a four channel plane, after watching this video I agree with everything u said, I find it doesn't like wind ether, battery life appears to be short and the motor looses power yet when I get the battery s home I find they charge in about 10 min which suggests they were not flat. Has anyone had a motor problem with this plane when after a while it seems to loose power, on a totally still day I agree with u also about it being easy to fly once it's up high and goin straight it's really steady, sometimes when I turn it twitches around a bit as if it wants to do its own thing but goes back to smooth controlled flight after the turns, maybe it's due to these flat spots on the transmitter that cause this on 6 g sometimes as well as I'm pushing a stick to far then it engages and the plane don't like the amount of movement I made and twitches to correct it, something nobody has mentioned in any video is do u have to calibrate the giro s and accelerometers on a level ground every time u take this plane out, the field I fly on ain't level it's slightly up hill, I try and put my haversack under the tail of the plane to get it as level as I can I can't get it perfect, does this matter. There is a good plane in there somwhere but there realy are issues to

    • @ricchatrc
      @ricchatrc  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Gerry, if your batteries are only taking ten minutes to charge, they are definitely not flat and you have plenty of battery power left. I personally haven't had a problem with the batteries and mine do take around 45 minutes to charge using my computer. You soon realize when it's time to land cause full throttle is just not the same anymore and the motor does lose power. I don't think it's a motor problem - it would be your batteries. Before you fly, and each time you stick a another battery pack in the plane, keep the plane straight and level to the best of your ability after you insert and connect the battery and keep it straight and level while you switch on the transmitter. It will calibrate and you will hear and see a slight twitch to tell you that it's ready. Also, test the motor briefly to engage 6G mode and then launch. As I mentioned in the video, if they fix these little dead spots with the transmitter, they can improve this plane over night. Good luck, have fun, and be ready for when you switch out of 6G mode and go into 3G mode. If you've already been flying 3 channel planes for a while, it sounds like you will be more prepared for 3G mode than most others who haven't flown before. All the best.

      @@ricchatrc thank u very much for the reply, they are fair comment s, another thing to be honest I paid 40 pounds for it sent to my door so it really is a cheap plane, i guess it's easy for me to look for faults in something that costs so little, fact is I have flown it a few times and it's come back in one piece and no crashes, I think as well cos I'm used to flying totally manual 3 channel planes where I do all the flying it just feels a bit odd having a stabilisation system that at time s takes over probably to save the plane,,,, I'll get used to it, I like your video s, I don't normally subscribe to vids if this kind, maybe I should, everything u said I had experienced, so u also told the bad, plenty of people saying how brilliant things are but not many taking the time to come back and say beware I have found this plane can fly in odd ways at times, very best of luck with your channel from wales in the UK.

      Hey Phil, there is another plane which I've been hearing good things about - It's the Sky King which is also pretty good value and it's only a three channel plane. I don't have one but it sounds pretty good. It's probably a good way to start, especially if your learning. Even the guys from FliteTest endorse this approach. (3 channels, I mean). It's easy to launch by hand and the propeller is protected because it's a pusher. All the reviews I've come across support this. You'll develop some good skills with only rudder and elevator to worry about. I've noticed the Tx for the Sky King looks similar, if not the same as the Tx for XK A800 (depending which video you've come across) so I'm wondering whether it suffers from the same dead zone travel movement in the sticks. If you don't get a 3 channel like the Sky King, then anything else with stabilization will definitely help. The Sky King is good value for money and you don't have to spend a lot. Spare parts are also available. I reckon the plus side with stabilization is that you control when to switch it off and on while flying, so you always have a safety net. Eventually, with practice, you will get used to the handling of the Tx with stabilization off. Hope this helps. Cheers.

Currently sold versions use V911S/E119 protocol and also have DSM and S-bus satellite sockets on the new receiver board. Thus you COULD use a Futaba S-FHSS satellite receiver with the current version. You NEVER could with the original version.
      HOWEVER the Futaba 7c uses FASST protocol NOT S-FHSS so you would need a receiver that uses that protocol AND also puts out a standard S-bus signal. Google to see if any are available.
