I grew up speaking Italian because my family is originally from there but as time has gone on I rarely speak it to anyone since moving away from New York. Now I'm trying to relearn it and its challenging! Thanks for posting this!
When I lived in Italy for a year I started out at an intermediate level, but I soon passed up my classmates because they lived with other Americans. I lived with Italians 24/7. My landlady would not allow her tenants to speak any English unless they tried Italian first. By the end of the school year I could watch any movie or play in Italian and was even able to give my testimony in church. I got so immersed that people didn’t know where I was from anymore. The key was losing my American accent and actually thinking in Italian. I actually had the Italian come to mind before English. I wanted people to correct me not just understand me, I insisted on it until I got it right. It off when I rediscovered my lost family in Italy. I still communicate with them today.
Actually it’s not :( I’m a Spanish native speaker took up to level 5 of Italian and the grammar is so much more difficult. Not more than English thou 🙄😂
My grandad is from Sicily but lives in the states. He never taught the language to my mum and slowly lost it. I want to learn it and bring it back to my family :)
I live in Australia, but my husband and I are planning to move to Italy in 2020, so it's a really great motivator to master Italian before we get there. Although I think it will all fall into place much better once we're there and fully immersed in the language. Thanks for the tips, we take a language class once a week after work and use babble and duo lingo. Slowly getting there...
My motivation is that I am a New York Italian and so many people in my family speak Italian and I really want to speak with them. One day I will live in Italy as well.
I am 50% Italian/ Maltese. I love the language and the culture so much. I feel connected to it. I’m going to visit Italy finally next year. I’m currently learning Italian! Thank you for making these videos!
I\'m not sure but ,if anyone else is searching for best way to learn italian online try Pycanta Amazing Italian Protocol (just google it ) ? Ive heard some incredible things about it and my co-worker got excellent results with it.
I am trying to learn Italian because it is a way to keep a connection with my mom who recently passed away. My granfather (her dad) was full Italian. The problem is that in my area, there are very few Italians with whom I can practice. I am pretty much on my own. I have been studying now for almost 16 months and am currently at 60% in Duolingo, and at the midway point in Pimsleur's Italian 2. I am making progress, but I want to become proficient.
I’m also American I have been here in Italy for two months i will be here for 3 years total in Vicenza. I have been studying for a solid month I already speak Spanish so this helps. I’m really trying to progress my learning
When I was still living in the US and trying to practice French, the only series I could find with French audio was dubbed Big Bang Theory. It was so weird to hear in French, but it helped knowing the story and characters already!
TIP 1 : have a motivation, a why TIP 2 : take classes TIP 3 : watch movies and TV shows TIP 4 : talk with kids because they judge less TIP 5 : immerse yourself in the language you wanna learn (at least 1 week) TIP 6 : overcome blank situations (you know, the thing you use to write sentences etc = PEN)
My first language is Spanish and I speak both English and Spanish fluently but my first language makes Italian look so insanely attainable for my brain like I know what most of the words mean so I’m pretty excited to learn it more in college
Good tips about language learning. I was only in Italy for 12 days, but I was so interested in everything that I was immediately trying to speak whatever Italian I had studied at that point to anyone and everyone. Daily routines, like early morning cappucino or early evening aperitivo time, was a great way for me to practice speaking. I'm pretty good at mimicking accents and speech when I hear it, so it was awesome when people thought I spoke Italian. These videos are giving me so much motivation to move to Italy! Thank you! I'm a fellow UA-camr, if you ever have questions about visiting Asia, let me know! (that's like what my content is about)
Perfect video ! I am studying in England "English language and linguistics" because one day I want to be a teacher. I do enjoy my course but still I am learning English I can not say I am a fluent speaker but I am trying to learn English from my environment, friends and classes. Going abroad to learn that language is the most efficient thing I have ever done! Btw. You are doing great with Italian language!
Great tips! For me what helped to get get to an upper intermediate/advanced level was studying from grammar books, reading books, and watching vlogs on youtube with italian subtitles. For me this is the best way to truly understand the functions of the language. Classes are great in the beginning but arent totally necessary to learn a language (at least my opinion!) For me once I got past the basic level (like obtaining a minor degree in America) it helped me to have a partner to speak italian too which anyone could find from apps like HelloTalk. Learning Italian was the best decision I ever made. Recommend it to everyone!
Oh god I’m Italian and your accent is literally perfect 👌 I’m pretty fluent in English but I find my accent ugly idk so I don’t talk much cause I’m not confident enough but I hope I’ll be as good as you hahah
always helpful to learn something brand new from someone who is more on your level (in response to the learning from children part), it trying to potty train my 3.5 yr old who has had ZERO interest in the potty and finally! the first signs of success and motivation! how? well since myself and my husband have been trying several times without much luck, I asked our friend's daughter if she would like to help because my daughter seems to look up to her and lo and behold, something is starting to click! I chalked it up to the pressure of change and failure, so instead of mom and dad (the authority), maybe she would respond better to a friend closer to her age and it really does work. that was probably tmi but im just saying, it is a very valid point!
I started Italian in the 4th grade but I did not get far, I found your channel and you have motivated be to start Italian again. I am also going to a school that has Italian classes, I am really excited and I think your amazing. Also you should do a video of your favorite Italian songs/playlist.
Thanks for this video! It's very helpful. I have a similar story. My grandparents are Hungarian and my other set of grandparents are Italian. As a little girl I always said I will live in Hungary when I grow up, I ended up living there for 6 years. I am trying to perfect my Hungarian, and now I will go to italy soon and see where my other part of my family comes from as well. :) Love your channel ❤️
I am planning on doing a double major in college and have been interested in becoming a spanish translator. I have so far taken four years of spanish at my high school and will be enrolling into a college program to start there. My dad's side of the family lived in puerto rico for some time and my grandpa wishes to go to Spain sometime in the close future so I want to be fluent enough to take both of us there on a trip. My biggest concern is I can read and write almost fluent but I have trouble speaking as my classmates tend to revert to a "Spanglish" type of talk. Any tips on how to practice speaking a language on your own??
Sophie you are too cute! (And gorgeous!) your energy is infectious! I’m going to Rome, Naples, Capri, And the Amalfi coast on May 22nd I’m beyond excited! Your videos have been so helpful!❤️
As I commented on your Italian version of this video, I met my Italian girlfriend on Babbel. I was studying Spanish and she was learning English. I came to full fluency in part in speaking Spanish but not so much in my comprehension. Babbel was a large part of that. Now I am trying to learn Italian and I find that because Spanish and Italian are so similar that I often cross the two unintentionally and end up speaking Englitalanish. Still it's interesting and a great challenge. Maybe someday I'll be able to separate the three and be fluent at will at all separately..
ciao 🤗 i'm a Filipina living here in Italia , I was new here really , I will be 1 year this coming march , I was very amaze on your video , it was very helpful because like you I need to learn Italian first , its still hard for me really 😩 but I need too , now I go to school to learn there language now I can understand a little but I was very happy on that, ☺️ Italian language is very hard but if you have a strong mind & strong feeling & you really want to learn It , it will be easy , hehe I just want to shared it , thank you 😍 now i'm one of your subscriber ❤️
I can speak 4 languages. I’m an Italian who was born in Italy, but moved to Switzerland when I was around 8 years old. I stayed there for years,I of course learned German. When I was around 13? We moved back to Italy. Thanks to social media;I learned english. Of course,I can speak Italian cause I have an Italian background. Lastly,I know Albanian cause I have a few family members that are from Kosovo. The only language I’m not completely fluent in is Albanian. Its a very hard language and I barely can write a word without making a mistake- Oh also I kiiinda know a bit of French thanks to school-
Hi Sofie, come stai? I'm Alen from Bosnia And Herzegovina, and I'm pretty close to Italy. Grazie, for the tips, I learned Italiano in high school, but I'm rusty AF, never really learned to use it, but I usually got B's, C's, A's sometimes. I'm 28 now. I love Italy, Tuscany especially, unfortunately I can't travel cuz of my health. But I wan't to re-learn it. English is my second language. My mother tongue is Bosnian.
I want to learn Italian because I want to go on vacations in Italy and I really want to at least be able to make small conversations. Thanks you for your tips.
Hi Sofie! Im from Sweden so I already am fluent in Swedish and English. I studied Spanish in high school, which I have totally have forgot by now learning greek. But spanish is something I will try to learn again. But right now i am learning greek because my boyfriend is greek. I go to greece with him every summer and its not that fun not understanding anything. I also think it is good to know any language and it is so much fun! I love to see how I become better and better at the language. Like last fall i couldn´t even read in greek or understand anything. And now i can understand alot more and i can read so well. Hopefully i am fluent soon! Loved this video by the way!
I wanted to learn Italian so much after i went to Italy and said "next time i go back, i will be fluent". My grandparents are italian so maybe im drawn to it for that. However, i stopped trying. And yiur videos have sparked my inspiration again. Just last night i was on an app starting the process again. And then this mornig i get your special deal! Funny how the world works. Gratzie !
Amber your comment makes me so happy! I'm so glad my videos could have inspired you- I wish I had similar videos to get inspiration before moving to Italy, which is why I created my channel! You can do it :)
I would love to learn Italian because I have always been in love with the culture and I’m actually going on vacation there this summer and this video really inspired me to immerge myself into the language more! Thank you so much you’re amazing 😊❤️❤️
I'm also trying to learn italian! Similar to you I have been obsessed with Italy for as long as I can remember. I hope that I will be able to spend some time in Italy one day, and I would love to be able to speak fluently in Italian before I go! I have been trying to use different language partner apps, books, and I even switched the language on my phone to Italian! It's very difficult to learn a new language and I still haven't been able to pick up much of italian since I have been trying to learn it, but I know I will get there one day!
Jessica D I'm italian, if you wanna learn it, i can teach you😉 while, I'm trying to improving my American english, 'cause i don't like British english... can you halp me?
That's awesome! Switching your phone to that language also helps immensely. If you're obsessed with Italy, then your motivation is already there :) In bocca al lupo!
There are many factors in how to speak Italian . A place I found that succeeds in merging these is the Hartlyn language lessons (look for it on google) definately the best remedy that I've seen. Look at all the awesome info .
Speaking in another language is turning you to a new person....lm persian girl. ...and l recently started Studing italian(la lingua italia😎)...and l really want to be fluent in it ....because l feel like a new person with it ...but lm full of hopes🐰🐰🐰
I used Babble years ago when I studied Spanish in high school and college. And I watched movies in Spanish. I wish Italian was an option to switch to on American movies. I would totally watch Friends in Italian. It's one I know like the back of my hands too! 💗😄 I use Duolingo right now, but I'm going to check out Babble again. My motivation for learning Italian is wanting to travel there. And to speak to you and Zoey! 😊 I also am just really passionate about learning other languages. Sticking with it is my challenge though... I minored in Spanish, but struggle to have a conversation in it now. Ciao, Sofie! 🤗 - Ash
My mothertongue is german and i learned english until i became fluent in it. Now i have been learning italian for 2 months and I really like it! I got a few problems with the pronounciation sometimes but I'm trying and it's getting easier!
I'm here in Italy almost 2 years and I'm fluent cuz I live with italians and helped me so much, if someone needs help I can definitely help so let me know.
I am 100% Italian I do not speak English well (in fact I use the app to learn) when I get bored I go to google translator and translate everything. however from what I've seen you speak Italian very well.
I was just curious as to how long it took for you to become fluent in Italian? I am living in Korea right now and my job affords me plenty of desk time to study Italian and I want to move there next Spring. I know being fluent is a long journey but from when you moved to Italy, how long did it roughly take to be able to participate in conversations and feel confident with the locals. The first few months of learning was easy but now I am delving into grammer and the finer points and its difficult, especially not being able to practice and I am hoping when I move there and am immersed my progress will speed up dramatically.
I sometimes understand what my non says cause he is full Italian, I got my name from Italy because he was born in lucca and that is my name which is so good, and if I ever go it Italy I have family there and they speak English just in case if I do go there they can help me understand but I hope you get this and I want to learn more about Italy because it’s a beautiful place.
Hi Sofie! I’m so glad I watched your video because I’ve been looking for learning apps recently to learn Italian. My mother language is Spanish and I started to learn English like 12 years ago and now I can say I’m good at it. My new goal is to learn Italian but it makes me a little sad that it will take a while to learn and really understand completely. Thanks for all your advice! I’ll put them in practice 😊
I can learn it. I just can't get past the grammar rules. Like clinics and determiners. The words I can learn no problem but the clitics deal with prepositional phrases and to be honest, I hardly know how to spot those in ENGLISH. I am in Spanish but i won't reach grammar until Spanish 3 my senior year. Are clitics even a thing in Spanish? It's similar enough but man this is insane.
Sofie - amaaaaazing Video!!! I’m inspired to go gung ho and learn French !!! Such a sweet video with helpful points babe ❤️✨ My motivator is definitely to live and work in a GRANDE way in Paris and you need the language for that :)
I'm only at basic-intermeddiate level 'cause I wanted to, that call so much my atention and I m a descent of grand grand dad who was born in 1888 at quindici italia, and I want to fullfill my Curriculum with a 4th idiom, solo io ad basico-intermedio italiano perché volevo a parlare, questo ha chiamatto la atenzione mia e io sono descenti di mi misnonna nasciuto nel 1888 nella cita di quindici, italia e anche voglio a completare mio curriculum professionale con altre 4° lenguo.
I am learning, and trying to be conversationally fluent in Italian and Norwegian. I am also dabbling in Japanese. Eventually, I'd also like to learn French, Spanish, Arabic and Gaelic. :)
I am learning Italian and in one of your Italian videos you started off saying ciao ragazzi! Doesn’t that mean hello kids, or hello boys. That doesn’t sound right. Is there some other meaning of ragazzi that I don’t know? Have I misheard you?
I'm a quarter Italian as well as you, and I'm really trying to become fluent in Italian but because I can't spend money on programs, is there something you would recommend for learning it with not spending money? I've looked everywhere and it seems like I won't be able to learn unless I pay something. I know a lot of words, but there's nothing I can find that will explain to me how to form sentences. I've learned a little bit from my papa as he spoke in Italian sometimes as a child with my nonno, but he doesn't remember every single sentence do or don't. Do you think maybe you could explain to me or make a video of talking about what you've learned about sentence structure and how to form sentences? By the way, ama il tuo canale
Download a PDF of an Italian grammar book. Theres also webinars on UA-cam. The only part of language learning I think is useful to pay for is talking to private tutors online. And even then you could just download apps like Hellotalk and meet and speak to Italians on there!
Such a great video Sofie, both this and the Italian version, you did a super job, your Italian is spot on😘 When I was in Canada I studied Italian all through High School, and even though both my parents were Italian, we always spoke English or should I say they'd speak Italian to me but I'd answer in English...lol classic, right? 😉 anyways when I came here on vacation just after High school my Italian was good, but then when I started working I got really rusty so when I came back to Italy everyone would say to me, wow! You're Italian was so good when you came the first time than what happened?.... haha work happened, that's what happened 😁 if you don't practice a language you forget, but living here and having to speak it everyday it all came back and now after 30+ years my Italian is good again but eh I learn new words all the time even now😂 When I came you only had yourself to depend on to learn but today people are advantaged by apps, I myself have used Babble and highly recommend it to my students and everyone :)
I've seen this theme that when parents/grandparents migrated to the USA from Italy, they stopped speaking their native tongue to integrate better, and that meaning never really speaking it with their children or grandchildren. So amazing that you picked it back up, though!
Hey Sofie! I just want to tell you that all your vlogs are amazing, but I have a little suggestion for you. since you're staying in Italy why you don't start making videos about football (soccer) in there, I bet you've heard a lot of talks about the "romantada" and a lot of other things about seria A especially now it's on fire! I think this type of content would be extremely fun to watch and you can move football culture and what does really mean to Italians to all your subscribers (I'm assuming the majority are Americans😂)j
When I was watching the trying American candy I was like dose she speak English and I’m like yep she dose and I have a few questions. 1. Do you’re niece and nephew speak English 2. Is you’re brother/sister who raised them do they speak full Italian I’m kinda confused on that?
Hey Sofie! This video was perfect timing because I've been wanting to sign up for a language site to learn Italian. I signed up via your link and it says the 3 months free come when you pay for 3 months (so 6 months total) but I only see the 3 months I paid for. I think I'll have to contact customer service or something to make sure your link worked and so you get credit! Love the vid
Oh, no! Let me know if it doesn't get fixed and I'll personally reach out to Babbel. I'd love to know how you get on once you start using the app - I appreciate you being here and in bocca al lupo con il tuo italiano :)
You look Italian.
her moms italian
Ah, makes me happy.
Just signed up for Babbel. Only 60€ for a year. I’ve been living in Italy for a while now, but going back over the grammar is very helpful

Pro trick : watch movies on Flixzone. I've been using them for watching loads of movies lately.
@Pedro James yup, I've been using flixzone for months myself :)
For americans or brits familiar or fluent with spanish, learning italian will not be so difficult...many words are similiar and the grammar too.
True
Spanish and Italian are similar
Actually it’s not :( I’m a Spanish native speaker took up to level 5 of Italian and the grammar is so much more difficult. Not more than English thou 🙄😂
Hmm i've had persons claim otherwise. ^^';;
It helps but italian grammar is more complex than spanish
My grandad is from Sicily but lives in the states. He never taught the language to my mum and slowly lost it. I want to learn it and bring it back to my family :)
Becoming fluent in a language can definitely be a challenge. I'm 100% bilingual English/German but I still really struggle with my French
Well being bilingual is already AMAZING! so you're in the right direction :)

Renée Joy Peterson just get divorced and marry an Italian... wait a second you will both broke up when in Italy anyway lol😂😂😂
Mark Benson And why would you think that's funny?
@Kry Kry because there is more to life than money
My background is fully Italian and I am currently learning how to speak it as I am not fluent, and this video helped me so much!
La ragione per cui studio Italiano è per vivere in Italia con mio amore....
I understood all of this I do not speak Italian but my first language is Spanish. Spanish and Italian are similar in ways. :]
My motivation is that I am a New York Italian and so many people in my family speak Italian and I really want to speak with them. One day I will live in Italy as well.

Greetings from Denmark
shin ae tae trust me that even if your accent isn’t perfect English speakers think it’s cute to have a little accent so don’t be afraid to speak!
Girl practice makes perfect eventually the accent fades away!!! Mine was ugly when I started learning English !
This is exactly how I feel when I try to practise speaking Italian to my boyfriend. He makes fun of my accent... but I think his accent is cute.
Try to master phonetics. This is what foreign language learners start with. The position of your tongue, teeth and lips.Try to imitate a lot.

Its a very hard language and I barely can write a word without making a mistake-
Oh also I kiiinda know a bit of French thanks to school-
Hi Sofie, come stai? I'm Alen from Bosnia And Herzegovina, and I'm pretty close to Italy. Grazie, for the tips, I learned Italiano in high school, but I'm rusty AF, never really learned to use it, but I usually got B's, C's, A's sometimes. I'm 28 now. I love Italy, Tuscany especially, unfortunately I can't travel cuz of my health. But I wan't to re-learn it. English is my second language. My mother tongue is Bosnian.
Complimenti, parli italiano molto bene. Sofie is really good to teach Italian. From an italian
I waited for this vidéo ! I learned french english and spanish and italian is next on my list !🙌
Thanks, Johanna! Your story is very interesting- and very motivating reasons to learn Greek! Keep us updated on the progress xx
How's your Greek now?
how long did it take you to learn to the point where you felt confident?
I wanted to learn Italian so much after i went to Italy and said "next time i go back, i will be fluent". My grandparents are italian so maybe im drawn to it for that.
However, i stopped trying. And yiur videos have sparked my inspiration again. Just last night i was on an app starting the process again. And then this mornig i get your special deal! Funny how the world works.
Gratzie !
Amber your comment makes me so happy! I'm so glad my videos could have inspired you- I wish I had similar videos to get inspiration before moving to Italy, which is why I created my channel! You can do it :)
Amber Jean me too my relatives are Italian but am full English so am drawn to it too lol
I would love to learn Italian because I have always been in love with the culture and I’m actually going on vacation there this summer and this video really inspired me to immerge myself into the language more! Thank you so much you’re amazing 😊❤️❤️
Thank you so much, Daniela! Your trip here will definitely make you even more inspired :) xx
I am new in italy ..I am trying so hard to learn italian language and speak it fluently...thanks for this video😪
This video is so friendly on great tips on what steps to learn Italian.
Thank you,
I'm also trying to learn italian!
I use Duolingo right now, but I'm going to check out Babble again.
My motivation for learning Italian is wanting to travel there. And to speak to you and Zoey! 😊 I also am just really passionate about learning other languages. Sticking with it is my challenge though... I minored in Spanish, but struggle to have a conversation in it now.
Ciao, Sofie! 🤗
- Ash
If you have netflix you can change the language to italian and allmost every show and movie is dubbed in italian
Sono l’unica italiana?😂💘
Presente!
Anche io sono italiano ahahaha
Ilo sonó un uomo
Zachary Khan unica means only she is asking if she is the only Italian
My mothertongue is german and i learned english until i became fluent in it. Now i have been learning italian for 2 months and I really like it! I got a few problems with the pronounciation sometimes but I'm trying and it's getting easier!
I have been learning for 2 months ( not I am learning)
I’m 16 me and my best friend are wanting to be an English teacher in Italy so we are trying to get some sort of jump start to our future
Thanks Sofie! Babbel looks better than I thought it would! I'm going to try it! Also, thanks for the tips! I'm slowly making progress! YAY! :-) XO
Brava, Monique! I'd love to know how you get on with it once you start using it- I think you'll enjoy it! xx
Sofie's World Yes! I tried it last night! I like it better than Duolingo! Looks like a keeper! 🙌😁
I speak English and Portuguese but learning Italian is proving to be difficult. English was much easier, Italian has too many verb forms.
It’s definitely difficult!
I've learned Italian in year and a half by living in Rome with an Italian family ;)
I'm here in Italy almost 2 years and I'm fluent cuz I live with italians and helped me so much, if someone needs help I can definitely help so let me know.
attack what program did you use to find a host family?
hi do you have any recommendations for someone who is learning ?
@@adeca5052 I didn't use any program I just met them while I was there and they offered me a warm welcome.
@@nikkyyxo the easiest way to learn is to be around with italians and be more extroverted cuz most of them don't speak English.
Where did you stay when you first moved there?
Amazing tips, Sof!! I’m hoping to continue German and start learning Italian when I go to university next year! ✨
That's awesome, Sarah!
I have to agree, been twice and getting married there soon, it is my spiritual home 😉
Aww thanks babe! You are amazing!
I want to learn Italian because my mom is Italian and I want to be able to speak Italian with my Italian side relatives.
I once a day watch a video in italian I think u did a italian video I've seen it
I am learning, and trying to be conversationally fluent in Italian and Norwegian.
I R I S ciao ragazzi also means “hey guys.”
Sofie's World ok thank you I am very new to the language. Like two weeks new.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼in bocca al lupo 😜
Sofie's World grazie!
Cette lezzione e importante
your hair is gorgeous
Great and inspiring video! You've accomplished so much in such a short time... #proudmama
You look stunning in this video!!!😘
Grazie mille XO
Gabriela Lorene I can help you, I'm italian!😉 and i'm lookin' for someone that can help me to improve my American english...I love it
Download a PDF of an Italian grammar book. Theres also webinars on UA-cam. The only part of language learning I think is useful to pay for is talking to private tutors online. And even then you could just download apps like Hellotalk and meet and speak to Italians on there!
I would love that (: We can both help each other! Do you have Instagram or any form of social media or do you just wanna do it on here? (:
Grazie! (:
Gabriela Lorene yeah, i've instagram! If you wanna find me, i'm iamnaty3 :) i'd be happy to try this way to improve our language❤❤
I am trying to learn Italian because my family is from Italy and i really want to go there.
I’m going to Italy so I’m here
Such a great video Sofie, both this and the Italian version, you did a super job, your Italian is spot on😘 When I was in Canada I studied Italian all through High School, and even though both my parents were Italian, we always spoke English or should I say they'd speak Italian to me but I'd answer in English...lol classic, right?
1. Do you’re niece and nephew speak English
2. Is you’re brother/sister who raised them do they speak full Italian I’m kinda confused on that?
You are italian pride!
I’m trying to learn Italian for my Italian boyfriend! ❤️
Are you ethnically Italian?
I'm a 1/4 Italian
Brava!
I'm Italian but I can't speak it, been there only once honestly >:
Thank you! I'll let you know :)
The secret to learn a language is to not use duolingo.
I speak with meems in French and she never judges me either. She’s not the best at helping me out, though.
:)
hey nice to see you! who do you think are sexier, italian guys or americans?
get a life..
So Welcome back to Italy :)
Come here in Puglia!
Fabulous Video! 🙂👌💯❤
Ciao bella❤️
