    I also mount paper on cradled panels. Its basically the same thing you do with collage except with rhe whole sheet. I always put a couple of layers of top coat to protect the paper and then a coat or two of actual removable varnish. That's just as durable as canvas maybe more.

    Thank you, Lewis! I love your painting style, intuitive, emotional! Appreciate your tips and your mention of watercolors - glass or no glass. A couple of friends wax their WC paintings and mount onto a cradle board. Also framed like an oil. Seems to protect them and I like the look. I use water soluble/mixable oils so I haven’t tried the wax trick, but these two are professional artists and they’ve used it on many pieces over a number of years - I’ve had their watercolors in my galleries. I’d be interested in your thoughts.

      I have tried it but again I didn't get on with it. Maybe it's just me!

    Thank you for your answers to these questions. I'm wondering if you "fix" the areas of soft pastel, charcoal, and other materials that would lift off. Sometime I put a spot of cold wax or soft gel over the area, bit I'm interested to know if you do something so that it won't come off on fingers of a buyer.

    Thank you for the thoughts about working with mixed media. So generous. I really enjoy creating mixed media pieces as well. Glad to hear you are so occupied with such great things.

      They do. I like to keep it simple so just use it for B&W sketching but I'm sure you can get interesting results with the different tones.

      Make sure to leave a clean page so the drawings aren't face to face. I don't use fixative. Some people put a sheet of baking paper in between which works but I don't feel the need.

    Thank you, for all the info. If you work the underlayers with acrylic and the top layers with oils, when exhibiting do you have to describe your work as mixed media or can you say oils?

    • @LewisNobleArtist
      @LewisNobleArtist  9 місяців тому +1

      I usually say oil & mixed media. It’s accurate but who’s checking!
