Earlier Fringe episodes leaned into the body horror a bit. Not every episode, and it lessens over time.
As far as the quality of S5, (avoiding any spoilers) S5 does represent a break from the structure of earlier seasons, and it has a strong melancholy feel throughout. The first time I watched S5, I would have ranked it as the worst season. But now, having seen the series multiple times, I think S5 is a very strong season, and a very good completion for the overall series.
Thank you for inviting us along, as you experience one of my personal favorite TV series.

I much prefer the episodes dealing with the world's over-all lore to the stand-alone monster-of-the-week episodes, so I'd rank most of season 5 above season 1. But I can totally understand why it might be the other way around for some people. I started watching Fringe near the end of season 2, so season 1 always feels a bit off from what I was already used to for the show.

S5 is very divisive, but I still love it, and they definitely nailed the finale!

I'm looking forward to taking this journey with you. It starts to get really good near the end of season 1, and your gonna love where it goes.

The Apt Pupil is an incredible movie. It is one of those rare movies that are better than the books they are based off of.

No spoilers. I enjoyed season 5. It's only 13 episodes, so it comes across as a plotline that was planned with the expectation of development over the seven seasons that _most_ shows get, but then had to be packed abruptly into a little over _half_ a season. With that in mind, I think they did a good job working with what they had to give the series closure.

I've got to remember to not watch Fringe while eating dinner. I made that mistake watching this episode, and it definitely did not help my appetite.
It's funny that you refer to Peter as "cute", Joshua Jackson was on teen drama show Dawson's Creek I think specifically because he was "cute". His character's name in it was Pacey, and even though I only watched a couple of episodes, he'll always be Pacey to me! He has aged pretty well since then, as did all the other actors on the show. At least in this show they cast the female and male lead actors who are similar ages. Hollywood has a habit of casting much younger women, so it's good to see them casting actors who were appropriate ages for their parts. (Although it might be better to say female lead and male supporting actors. Anna Torv is such a bad ass in this show!)
As for the rest of your reaction, I think there's a reason why everyone wanted to see you react to Fringe! At this point I don't think it's a spoiler to say we can expect similar reactions from you in most episodes!

So, You've called BS in each of the first two episodes. Which is EXACTLY what I did -- in fact, I found something to call BS on every episode well into the second season. Luckily, I love the characters and over-arching story so much, that I could just keep going. Upon re-watch, I learned to switch off my brain, and enjoyed my second time through more than the first. If you can figure out how to do that, You'll enjoy your watch-through even more. GREAT reactions, btw! 😀

NO. You need to turn your brain UP! It's what Walter always says you need to imagine something before you can make it happen. Ya, its sci-fi, but there is science behind all of it. Remember, X-rays, MRI's (being able to see inside a human body) USED to be scifi.

So many layers to this show. Watch for characters called the observers. Men in black who are in the background of every show. and later on become major characters.

Optography was a fashionable 19th century speculative theory that was never definitively proven. Photography and electricity were relatively new scientific phenomenon at that time and lots of strange and fantastical theories abounded (see the fictional work of Mary Shelly and Edgar Allen Poe for example).

"The Skulls" is a good movie. It would be a good one to react to.
