this film is so underrated but so so beautiful. the way the characters and their story are shown in such a nostalgic and melancholic way in the quiet voices and rural area but also still full of love and hope. this movie is meaningful and definitely one of my favourites.
This movie is definitely not for everyone. Yes, it has beautiful romance, but the romance becomes secondary to the family drama in the second half of the movie and I've seen a lot of people saying they didn't like the movie because of that. It's a pretty mature story about adults with adult issues, not a coming-of-age romcom about having butterflies in your stomach. That being said, this is one of my favourite queer movies. It's such a beautiful depiction of a relationship that ended too early and too abruptly that is finally being rekindled after years and I love the family dynamics and the issues they bring. It's complicated and yet it has a calming simplicity about it that draws you in and warms your heart.
Totally agree. As they say everyone is entitled to their opinion but I don’t understand why people had an issue with the second half. I think you needed the second half…it’s about life.
My very first bl. Me and my gf watched it together. I'm a straight man but I don't get disgusted with the same sex relationship. This movie is superb, the acting, the story, the sincerity is just perfect.
*His* is a masterpiece, the storyline is strong with a beautiful romance and the actors are amazing. It showcase how two people on love can make mistakes and still be happy and raise a family. Love this show so much
Y’all don’t understand how much I love this movie, I’ve watched alot of bls and just settled for poor to mediocre acting and story but this? This is quality, the acting, the story, the character, it’s a genuinely good movie which is so rare to find in the world of bls
I kinda differentiate between BL and Queer genre. To me this movies falls into the latter category and not the former. In BL world the focus is the romance and very rarely will there be any plot points about the realities of being gay, it's kinda an idealized world where gay people are allowed to just exist. But lgbt/queer genre is more reflective of what queer people actually sometimes face in real life. So that's why I seperate the two because what thier trying to achieve story telling wise is kinda different. I do hope the growing popularity of the bl genre worldwide will lead to bl story telling becoming more about queer story telling. But of course we shall have to wait and see. There will always be people who prefer the fantasy of bl and don't want story telling grounded in reality. My hope is the bl genre expands more beyond the tropes and grows to include all kinds of/ diverse ways of story telling.
This is why I love Japanese BL, they started the genre and regardless of how many countries try to imitate them, they can’t. They do it best. They show broken people who, even though they’ve made mistakes (like Nagisa) they still deserve love. The confusion Nagisa had about their relationship doesn’t make him a bad guy. Trying to live up to society’s and his parents (who he’s estranged from) expectations was overbearing. Unfortunately, this is what a lot of gay people go thru. Shun took him back because although he was hurt and angry at him, he still loved him, never got over him as shown in the scene where he kept photos of the both of them and his sweater in a drawer. Little Sora was a total gem in this movie. Kdrama fans who come to watch Jdramas need to know a lot of time you’re going to get a real “slice of life”, not those romantic comedies that Kdramas love to inundate the internet with. lol Japan has real life dramas with flawed people and that’s the way it should be.
@@rin7526 Thai drama is too toxic. I do agree with the commenter, Japanese BL do it better. There’s hardly toxicity and not every drama is high school, which I appreciate.
not gonna lie, i didn’t expect the movie ver would be that deep, considering the series ver was kinda cute 😂 def love both, but i wish the series could have a season 2 🥲
I have seen a fair amount of bl love stories that are great. But I believe this is the first japanese bl I have seen so far where it doesn't focus only on the romance. It's mature and shows how relationships like this really are in the real world. It's refreshing and heartwarming, easily one of my favs! We need to see more of this kind of stories for gl dramas as well
i think what touched my heart about this was, how the man didn't end up making his ex-wife looked like a monster. because no matter what happen she is the mother of his child. He wouldn't want her daughter hate her mother. The end was so beautiful.
His (2020) movie is a sequel to His (2019), 5 episode series (23 min each). It not necessary that you must watch the prequel, but I felt I knew the characters better and where they stand, when I watch the series and then the movie.

I didn't know this movie, and looking for a scene from another BL to show a friend, I came across this video. But now, I need to watch it! Exactly because just from this, I can tell the acting and storyline are actually deep and touching, not only focusing on fanservice... the actors appear to have really given it their all. I'm looking forward to watching it.
The actor of shun, Hio miyazawa actually have his gay friend as reference for his acting, so his acting looks realistic. He'll stared at new coming BL movie. Looking forward to it.
I've watched both this movie and the series (His: I Didn't Low I Would Fall In Love) about their relationship start as highschool kids. I adore them both.
i think that’s the good thing about japanese bl films. it’s not like korean bl or any other american gay films, and it’s because the japanese bl put in a feeling that sort of connects to real life. nagisa, has made mistakes and even is hurt, not even forgetting about shun. and people like him try to live up to society, and have the expectations people have for them. so of course, it’s not really the kind of romance everyone wants, but that’s the thing. this is the way life is, and j-dramas take that and they put it into their films. everyone loves a seeing a great intimate moment with nagisa and shun, but they’re both adults who do face issues. it’s not something that you get happy about, or a warm feeling. even thought they reunite, it’s cute, but it still has some adult problems in it that actual people go through. and that’s what i like about japanese films.
This is it!! THE BEST BL KISS EVER!!! KISSING MUST BE LIKE THIS!!! I'm fxxking bored watching awkward kiss, acting a lot of passionate scenes but feels stuffy and so much worries, and it's not cool to be an actor. THAI BL MOVIE, Come on!!!
So true ... many of the kisses in BLs - Thai especially - are middle school press-lips-and-hold. The actors come across as if they are straight irl and uncomfortable with kissing their co-stars, and inexperienced at acting. Their discomfort is sometimes quite obvious.
@@sunfloweeerrry Yes ... and there are exceptions, including TharnType and the ones you mentioned. I love this movie with all my heart and ShunxNagisa lives in my mind rent free. After I watched it, I saw a lot of people saying they didn't like Nagisa's character, which I completely understand because he tends to be impulsive and selfish: he was in love with Shun but he suddenly decided to break up with him without considering how this would affect his boyfriend; then, he got married even when he knew he was gay and cheated on his wife several times over their marriage and, on top of that, when they got divorced, he wants his daughter's custody without considering his ex-wife's feelings. So yeah, Nagisa may not be the most empathic person, but I can clearly see his character development throughout the whole movie because at last he goes back to his first love and he is decided to do things better with Shun and, the most important of it all, he decides to let his ex-wife win the custody of their daughter, which, to me, was the most "not-selfish" thing he could have ever done.
