Hardcore WoW goes against everything I feel an MMO is. How can you get a good connection with your character and enjoy the lore-rich stories and worlds of a video game on that character if you're so detached you could die at any moment and just start another one? I don't get the mindset. A lot of people seem to enjoy it though. Guess I'm old lol
Its funny because I think a lot of people enjoy it and feel attached to their hardcore character for the reason you assume they would be detached from them. If you die, you have to start *all over* and you lose them forever. The farther you get the more attached you feel because you can look back at all the situations you've been through where you maybe could've lost them, or just a "wow look how far we've come" moment. You can't ask others for help so everything you have, you got for yourself, and it's all gone if you die. The adventure might just feel more intense when there are actual stakes on the line! Also i think a lot of people who play hardcore have played through classic many times and have already experienced the story, so having a character with a real permanent threat of death can be a way to re-immerse and challenge themselves.
I have 50 alts, 2 are hc (1 level 35 Dwarf paladin and 1 level 19 Dwarf hunter). The most I have ever felt in touch with any character is exactly with these 2 alts :D. The fact that you seriously have to invest time in every secondary profession (first aid, cooking and fishing keep you alive, trust me!) and every copper is worth so much (there is no trading allowed at all!) makes the game so much more enjoyable. And look at Chaeri at 9:54, when you find not only greens but greens that you can actually use, it's priceless! Try it out, T!
I am apart of a small group of 20 ish people / friends. We rolled on another server and are playing hardcore there. We made a guild and we have auctions on our discord for items. I feel the hardcore playstyle has been a refreshing touch on the game, and its been way more fun than the more "solo" oriented way when using the hardcore addon.
My most unfortunate was after being involuntarily flagged for PvP because my brother, who had just finished his priest quest in Elwynn, healed me. Needless to say, there was a level 60 undead rogue in Goldshire who decided I had to re-roll :))
Ended up being a lot more chill than I expected. No near death experiences. I've so far died at level 20, 22, 16 and 28. Mostly just me getting over confident and doing more than I should do. First death was while stealthing past some murlocs while waiting for a respawn and I got a bit too close to them. Bit of a silly thing to do. 😀

For Classic I mostly just use Bartender to rearrange my bars, Questie and Leatrix maps

Your just a nerd tbh. Gameplay > story. Hardcore is fun af due to pressure. Who gives a fuck about side quest lore
