Thank you! I got this flashlight one month short of a year ago for a gift and being intimidated by gadgets I am just now taking it out of the box. I guess it’s a good thing I haven’t really needed a flashlight so much ...however, wanting to be prepared I have looked around and there are no directions I must’ve done something with them so I searched online and found you for which I am grateful. It’s like having one of my kids around to help answer my computer problems. A gold star for you!
Those slots that are on top are so you can see that the flashlight is on when setting it down. Many a burnt out battery (or charge in this case) happens when people set a flashlight down and forget to turn it off!
Mmm, no, those have always been there on "tactical" lights as a crown used to cause more harm when it's used as a weapon by a hammer first strike motion. In that case it (on some models that have hard metal that can take a sharp edge cut) can literally tear a hole in skin. Some higher end lights have it made out of a harder metal like stainless so it's more durable and efficient for the purpose, but of course this adds to the cost.
@@stinkycheese804 They r mainly to c if the flashlight is on when face down. U dont want it to run out camping in the middle of a jungle. Some r reinforced to striking purposes.
for anyone reading this in 2023, the newer generation models of the LC90 no longer have a removable battery. You can try to remove it, but it will damage the on and off mechanism.
If you want to optimize this light you can get some Samsung 35E 18650s. They are 3500MaH at 8amps and the Cree Led on this light is the XM-l2 which requires 3amps to run at full power. so you are just getting a better battery with more running time. An easy upgrade for about 7 to 9 bucks for a top tier rechargeable battery. It’s kind of like getting a really nice car and then taking off the factory tires and putting on better tires. It’s only going to increase performance with no draw backs.
I wrote to anker. I suggested they post all the lumen output ratings for the different modes going forward on their flashlights. They told me the medium and low modes on the lc90 are 600 and 250 lumens respectively.
thanks for the review. I just bought this and had a devil of a time getting the back off to install the battery as it was stuck. The packaging I got did not include the booklet.
It says it's a Tactical light. I understand this type to mean military and marksmen will buy this kind of light for shooting. I assume they would be interested in more expensive light because of extreme conditions. Also the bright light can be used to temporarily blind an attacker, then (slots around the top, and the length of handle, and those good gripping spots) help to use the whole light as a striking weapon as you have figured. You can blind with the light, then strike above the eye on the forehead. There will be blood running down, more blinding. I have never tried it but that's the ideal I think. It might be a good ideal to practice this striking business. I enjoyed your review very much thank you
I have not had this flashlight very long. It appear that the battery is fully charge (green Mode) but cannot get the flashlight to turn on in any mode.
Spent the whole day driving over my Anker flashlight with my Cat 950 payloader wondering where it was, after running over it for at least 12 hours I noticed something on the ground and thinking that there is no freaking way this light is any good it worked like new. Get two if you have a Cat 992.
I have this flashlight, and while it's well built and bright, the different modes and how you toggle between them is also a huge pain in the ass and makes this pretty fucking awful. Basically, you can very easily get it to change modes without even realizing it, and you end up not knowing what the hell the thing will do next time you turn it on. You think you're turning on the flashlight in normal mode, but it's flashing like crazy. Really terrible design.
I've got two over three years. The first one (boguth june 2018) lasted till august 2021), the switch started to fail changing between modes and finally stop working. The another one and newer (bougth as spare 2019) lasted less, same switch problem, broke December 2020. I'ts sad cause it's a robust, long battery, awesome light flashlights. But the switch is annoying and will break no matter how, it will break. Anker offered me a 20% discount to buy new ones but I'm afraid the quality has been dropping since then.I think Anker could make a simpler switch to solve the problem, because I believe switching between 5 modes interrupts it. I've had a maglite 3D led for over 10 years, it's not compact or rechargeable, but the switch works for simplicity. Now I seriously think I spend 33 bucks on maglite batteries in 2 years or is it better on a new LC90 that might not last half that.
Yeah I wish I would have done that in this review. You can see that plus a comparison with other anker flashlights here: ua-cam.com/video/fkeqx7RjTdw/v-deo.html
Hello! Yes, mine does a little bit but not enough to really bother me. You might want to contact Anker, their support is extremely helpful. Thank you for watching and please consider subscribing :)
My flashlight keeps blinking no matter how many times they shut it off and shut it on which makes the flashlight useless. I can’t cycle through the molds it just keeps blinking I can’t get it to put out a steady light. I hate it.
I had the same problem. It was stuck on SOS mode. It's an issue with the switch button at the end of the flashlight. I messed around with different ways of pressing it in, and finally got it to go back to steady mode.
You stated and wrote that it has 6 hours on the brightest mode which is incorrect. It has 6 hours on medium and closer to 1 hour on brightest mode. This is stated by the manufacturer now, but you can also deduct it by doing the math. 6 hours from a 3350mAh battery (included) would be about ~560mA drive current, which with a typical Cree LED would only produce around 250 lumens instead of the (supposed, it is subject to debate if it's accurate or a little high rated) 900 lumens the manufacturer claims on brightest mode.
lol, you don't need to get one that's exactly 3350mAh , it's just an 18650 Li-ion cell. However, do avoid the generic brands, especially those with fraudulent ratings above 3500mAH. There is no generic that's a good buy and none that are 3500mAh or more.
@@stinkycheese804 thank you i have the light and it works awesome when we are in the forest. i wanted to get another battery for back up so ill get a 3500mah then thank you

I like anker. But this is the stupidest way to recharge the flashlight. U have to open the flashlight for that. It is ridiculous for anker to do that when other rechargeable flashlights you can charge by twisting the flashlight to access the usb port- without having to open the flashlight and risking to break the rubber cord thats inside. So that is a deal breaker for me.
Who really cares if the rubber cord breaks? The way they set it up results in it being more waterproof. Personally I'd just as soon they knocked a couple dollars off and made the only tailcap a square anodized thread, without a built in charger. I can charge 189650 cells much faster in a dedicated charger and most devices I have that are used often, end up breaking the flimsy little micro USB port as it breaks off the PCB. Some people think "charge on the go" but if that means using a USB power bank it seems silly to me because you're talking charge out of the battery in that, suffering loss from battery resistance and the step up 5V boost converter in it, to the flashlight, suffering a loss again to buck down to (max) 4.2V... you might as well have just carried another 18650 cell along with you in a battery holder, and it'd be smaller and weigh less all else equal.
Super obnoxious way to charge, but maybe i just don't know flashlights very well. Somebody gave this flashlight to me and I could not figure out how the fuck to charge it, figured "seriously how I not figure this shit out" and then bust decided to UA-cam it and saw this and skipped ahead and was like OHHHHHH Annoying design, imo. Everything else about it is great though. Thanks for the video.

Tactical, to hit in case of self defense.

Water resistant. It can get water on but I wouldn't think it would last long if it were submerged.
