    Can't believe it is a one-year waiting list that's crazy !! Trust you to park ages away that's definitely something I would do!! So glad you made this video and mentioned the sort of things you spoke about it will definitely make some people who are still waiting for their first appointment a bit more at ease.

      Absolutely, the waiting list is ridiculous. One year wait for a first appointment, and a further 5-6 month wait for a second one. There is no guarantee of hormones being prescribed at the second one. I am honestly so glad I am going privately until then although the financing of it is less than ideal.

    Congratulations on getting in to sandyford! I should be getting in this summer! (I've been waiting since April last year)

    Thank you for this video. I've literally just been referred to the gender identity clinic in England. Been told the waiting time for a first appointment is two years. I was already expecting that as I'd already talked to others about it. Im actually OK with the wait because it gives me time to go through social transitioning, name changes, working out where I'm most comfortable. But I have literally only just come out as trans. This video is very informative so thank you ☺️

    Just watching this video has given me more hope about Sandyford. Similarly I've heard bad things and long wait times for GiC's in the UK, just knowing it's worth it is what's going to get me through the next 17-18 months.

    I'm also facing this dilemma. I haven't had my first GIC appointment yet, and the earliest I'll get it is around April next year. I think I'm leaning towards getting my eggs frozen so that I can have biological kids one day, but I'm terrified of child birth. So there's that. It's hard figuring these things out but I know we'll make the right decisions.
    I hope it all goes well for you. And congrats on getting your first appointment!

      Thanks. April will come around soon enough for you I'm sure, I both feel as though my year's wait was forever and yet at the same time can't believe a year has gone by!
      There are other options for childbirth. The idea terrifies me also, but I'm trying to not let that put me off the idea, given there is the possibility I may in the future have a partner who would carry a child, or would look at surrogacy. It's a huge decision to have to make, and a LOT to consider.
      Stay strong.

    Finally back in my flat. I just watched all the videos I missed in the last weeks. If nobody else gave you the tip already, try out the flying duck. They have amazing food (Try the Mac and cheese! They also put it in a burrito. And they have an awesome chilli cheese dog too) and do a 20% student discount. This video about your first appointment was really helpful. I still have 11 months to wait but I still need time to think about what I would say at my appointment anyway. I’m shocked you have to wait another 4-5 months to talk to the medic, it all takes such a long time. Yeaih, mental health.

    I should get my first initial appointment in may of 2018. It’s felt like forever waiting since last may, I honestly can’t wait for my appointment, just so it feels like stuff is actually happening.

    • @EthanWilsonUK
      @EthanWilsonUK  6 років тому

      Best of luck in May. I know how hard that initial wait is to get going but you’ve less time to wait than you have done already so that’s a positive!

    Also when you freeze your eggs you have to take estrogen leading up to the removal

    I worried about not being able to start hormones myself as I'm a much larger and overweight trans guy

      I am sure you will get there. I know of bigger guys who are on T so it clearly *is* doable. Best of luck!

      Most referrals for initial appointments are 1y or more. It’s hard, I know, but hang in there!

      Sadly there arent many gender clinics in the word and there are lots trans people so it's just one big queue

    What happens if you change your mind after all gender reassignment is done? That’s more than insanely difficult to cope with the psychological issues of wanting to undo the surgeries.

    • @EthanWilsonUK
      @EthanWilsonUK  4 роки тому

      Whilst I am sure that would be an incredibly challenging thing to cope with, I believe it rarely happens. I obviously cannot speak for everyone but personally, in the three years since coming out, two years since hormones and irreversible changes, and three months since top surgery... I have become more and more comfortable in myself!

    I've been waiting nearly for a year and two months!! Still haven't gotten my first appointment. When will I get my first appointment??

    • @EthanWilsonUK
      @EthanWilsonUK  5 років тому

      Honestly there is no way I could answer that question. I’m afraid all you can do is wait, or at best possibly call them and enquire where they are at with the waiting list. It will come around eventually. Good luck.

    Should be made to pay for it yourself... Not public taxes...

    • @westwater73
      @westwater73 6 років тому

      Think how much this is going cost the uk tax payers in the future, especially the mental health services

    • @EthanWilsonUK
      @EthanWilsonUK  6 років тому +3

      Maybe if there were less hoops to jump through to access critical medical care, there would be less of a demand on services due to the repercussions faced by those experiencing this lack of care. The same is true of any form of medical necessity regardless of discipline, illness or specifics.
