As expected, an awesome video from LDF. That soil in your raised beds looks wonderfully healthy so it’s no surprise that your plants perform so well. Got my 2 gallons of AgroThrive today and can’t wait to start using it. Can’t wait to see you get your tomatoes planted!,
I'd be putting the tomato in with one on the north side of the second leader. Then the other tomato on the south side of the 3rd leader. That way the cages and plants are a bit more offset but still have half the planter. (Assuming that the main line is running north to south)
For trellis I use lightweight t posts I push in the ground with my foot. When 5 foot is not enough I lengthen them with 1 inch sticks fastened with 2 short drywall screws in holes already provided on the posts. Bought some potatoes today and cut them up. A week of nice warm and dry weather the whole week here near Chicago. Oh, put in a short row of Oregon snap peas. God bless
I use cheap irrigation. It puts the moisture on its soil or it gets the hose again! I suppose it helps that I don't have a ton of irrigation to do. Less than 3000sf planted and all of it heavily mulched.
Lookin' good, Travis. I'm jealous of the beets. Not the beets themselves, but I looooove beet greens! All I can say for the beets is "pickled beets" are pretty great. The one year I grew a short row of (red) beets, it seemed like the home grown ones weren't earthy or dirty tasting like the ones at the store. Maybe just my imagination...
Ok, I see why you did the irrigation that way. Makes sense. You bout half smart I recon, uhm huh. I’m slowly working on a raised bed plot. Gathering old rusted out water tanks from farmers and ranchers. FREEEEEEEEE!😉. Got mulch from the electric line tree trimmers. Yep, Free. That’s how us Poo Fokes roll.
I’m not a a fan of getting my hands dirty working in the soil I call myself a hunter gatherer. Hunting in the retail stores, farmer’s markets, and gathering the best food that money can buy. Well I have not been very successful so may need the side shoots! I do reels Travis and I always mention you and your videos! I think your awesome and I appreciate you answering my questions
I was wondering if arugula and the milder Chinese greens from the mustard Family any biofumigation benefits or is it only the stronger hotter varieties? We like the milder fresh eating types but haven’t really developed a taste for southern mustard greens yet. I could see growing some in beds that I would maybe choose other non-edible cover crops though, especially if I start seeing any nematode issues.
Biofumigation, from my research, is at its best when the brassica is very hot as in Mustard Caliente or Mustard Trifecta. It works because of the glucosinulates that are within the brassicas. That chemical is produced as a result of plant damage which is why they say to mow it then till it in and then water as it has to be hydrated. It also works better if you have available sulphur in your soil, so the addition of pelleted sulphur when you plant your mustard is a good concept, depending on your soil you must be careful with sulfur it will make your soil more acidic. Generally speaking those brassicas that make for a good biofumigant are not those brassicas that you would want to consume, Mustard Caliente is very hot and not palatable at all.
It's a brand called "Twisted X." They're not the most durable boots -- I can usually only get a year or so from a pair. But they're lightweight and not bulky which I like.
Real southern comfort! I came for the gardening and stayed for the Georgia accent. Enjoying the informative videos! Well done 👏🏼
Awesome! Thank you!
Yeah buddy, I'd take that spider over a spiral any day! That was very nice!
Planted yellow beets for the first time and we loved them. Planting more come fall.
Needs more plants in that circle bed. 3 determinate tomatoes and marigolds, Allysom in between.
Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with us. My first year seed starting and raised beds. Hello from North Central Alabama
Thanks Linda!
The raised bed garden is looking good and I see it quite often in commercials now. Your more famous by the day Travis 😊
I’m encouraged seeing another gardener with peas going awry!
Looks more like a centipede than a spider!!
Nice info,
Thanks
I love Sun Angel spinach.
I like beets in my slaw and in a cabbage stew.

I’m so jealous of your full garden…we’re just starting to plant this week.
You could put some companion plants like marigolds in the raised beds with the cherry tomatoes!
I like that idea! I just so happen to have some marigold transplants in the greenhouse that are ready to go!
@@LazyDogFarm heck yeah! I’m pumped to see how it turns out I’m planting marigolds between all my maters the rows this year

That broccoli looked amazing if you don't mind me asking what variety is that broccoli?
I'm hungry
Could you freeze any of it Travis?? Travis I planted shallot bulbs and they are tall when do I know they are ready??
You can freeze spinach. I've heard of folks freezing it in ice trays. I'm no help with shallots. I've never had much luck with them down here.
Ut Oh with the shallots because I'm Austin Texas so it gets super hot here

Travis if you have like 6 broccoli plants and a couple have heads that may flower so I'm gonna cut them tomorrow but is it worth it to keep them for side shoots??
Depends on how valuable your garden space is at the moment. You will get some side shoot production, but it's usually just a snack's worth.
Well I have not been very successful so may need the side shoots! I do reels Travis and I always mention you and your videos! I think your awesome and I appreciate you answering my questions
Is agrothrive the only fertilizer you use?
No we also use some granular stuff made by Nature Safe.

We like the milder fresh eating types but haven’t really developed a taste for southern mustard greens yet. Supposedly all the brassicas, even broccoli, can have some biofumigation benefits. The spicier the leaves, the better the biofumigation though.
Biofumigation, from my research, is at its best when the brassica is very hot as in Mustard Caliente or Mustard Trifecta. It works because of the glucosinulates that are within the brassicas. Will the decomposing spinach adversely affect the tomato plants growth in any way? Notice how I didn't spell tomato the way Dan Quayle would. lol
I don't think so. The decomposing mustard can inhibit seed germination. But we'll be transplanting both of these beds, so shouldn't be any problems.
@@LazyDogFarm Thank you, and keep it up, you're helping a lot of people.

Feeding spinach to your chickens will make them strong like Popeye, be careful they might be trying to fight them ducks if they get that strong.
I got the pea problem with my tomatoes..i can not believe how they are growing..
The weather this year has been perfect for them so far.
Pea trellis looks a little janky 😂😂😂
