- Handbag Clinic is a luxury service in London that restores, authenticates, and resells designer handbags and shoes. Cofounder Charlotte Staerck walks us through how one of Handbag Clinic's artisans restores a white Sharpie-stained Chanel Grand Shopping Tote. This includes wiping the bag with stain remover to remove the top layer of ink, using a bristle brush with cleaning foam to get more ground-in ink out, and repainting the bag.

How A $3,000 Sharpie-Stained Chanel GST Is Professionally Restored | Refurbished
When I was 3 I scribbled in green marker on the bottom of my Mothers brand new $2,500 Louis Vuitton purse. She still carries it and asks me to re-do my scribble when it wears away. I’m 27 now.
Edit: I’m 29 now and re-did the same bag scribble today on her request.
that's a way better thing to do, it makes your kid feel happy and important, gotta say props to your mom :)
That's exactly what I would've done because that's literally a rare item.
Lol if that were me I'd have gotten screamed at ha
But bruh is in the bottom
@@ph0n1xz ya but still like $2,500!!
First, we remove maybe half of the ink
Then, yolo, just paint over it
They removed as much as possible chemicals to prevent it the from further penetrating the material before repainting. The chemicals could deteriorate the leather.
The removed surface ink, washed it and dyed it again... 🤣 not a total restoration as if the whole bag was damaged ✌
well, a 2000£ bag doesn't justify top grade restoration work. they mostly cleaned and prepped the leather so that the paint would stick well.
@@iamwisdomsky u ruined the jokeeeeeee
@@SunnyStarzz I didn't ruin anything boomer.
I like that the people who own these expensive products are thoughtful enough to have them fixed /repaired instead of looking for an excuse to buy another.
I believe this purse is resale, not being restored by/for the previous owner.
I would neither waste my money on a $3,000 accessory or have kids. But if i did, and if they did this to it, then they would be paying for it with everything including their Christmas gifts until it's paid off. If that seems wrong, well it's called discipline, unless you want your brats to grow up crying that "capitalism failed them" and spraypainting "acab" everywhere like cringy little edgelords.
Although, if you own something that expensive, you would think that you'd protect it a little better. Everyone knows you can't have nice things. Not with those little beasts running around.
If the repair is as expensive as a new one, buy a new one if you have no emotional attachment to the product.
Chanel no longer makes this style, so the owner actually can't purchase a new one.
Honestly buying one in the first place is dumb enough but I wouldn't think someone stupid enough to do it twice instead of just fixing and patching it up
does this remind anyone else of the "You spilled lipstick in my Valentino white bag" vine?

For everyone wondering why they can resell the bag at 85-95% of the original price and/or why the owner doesn't just buy a new one: Chanel doesn't make this style anymore. You can literally only buy it secondhand. So if someone really wanted that style, they would pay that price. That color is also a very neutral, classic Chanel color, so it holds value even better.

When I was a child my mom made sure that people didn’t put things up for us because we needed to learn that not everything was ours to draw on. We had paper. We had markers. We did not draw on walls. We did not draw on other people’s belongings. You never know what is important to someone. That could be their grandmothers purse that was left to them. To me it’s crazy not to teach your kids to respect other people’s boundaries.
I'm sure in the YOUNG CHILD'S eyes, this pretty white bag was the _perfect_ canvas 🤭
[But yes, respect others belongs.]
I bet she learned her lesson after this 😋
Erin, I soooo appreciate your comment!!

I myself never felt the need to draw on walls and such!! It's so stupid!
I draw a lot though, on paper!
But I don't get your comment when you said "my mom made sure that ppl didn't PUT THINGS UP for us"???
What do you mean?!?!
@@Witchy-Wonderland they can encourage their child to keep drawing pictures and let them know they love it when they draw for them but that they need to do it on appropriate surfaces otherwise they will be in trouble if it happens again, and point out that mommy had to have the drawing removed, so she would love it if she drew on paper instead so that she can keep it. 🙂
@@bluebellcrushedvelvet if we went over to our grandmothers house for example my mother encouraged her to leave out breakables, etc. floral teacups come to mind. We weren’t allowed to touch them, we were allowed to look at them but not touch. It was an important lesson for us to learn, even at 3-4 years old. Not everything was ours to play with.
My mom did however make sure we always had things to occupy us. We always had snacks and drinks and toys and coloring supplies. She was very organized about our outings. She gave us all the tools we needed to behave ourselves when we were out and about. I am almost 30 now and I still get people coming up to me telling me how my sister and I were such good kids when we were little. Mostly I think that was my mom. If you leave kids hungry, bored, tired, with nothing to do they’re going to get into trouble. You haven’t given them an alternative.
Anyway, welcome to my TED Talk. Lol
Just wanna say I appreciate how sane, level-headed and balanced this comment thread is. You all sound like lovely people.
I'm not one for expensive handbags as I don't really like purses. I can't justify the prices either. However, I do own a little LV backpack that was gifted to me by my dad. I know it was pretty expensive and while I didn't ask for it, I'm grateful to have it. If my child, niece, or whoever drew on it, I'd be upset. Idk why there are so many comments upset that the drawing was removed. If I had kids, I'd make it incredibly clear what is and isn't okay to draw on. I'd try my best to explain you don't touch other people's stuff. Although I would also have my expensive items locked up tight.
Get over with internet comments. People just use it as a place to complain etc. In real life I think very few people with those comment will actually let their kids draw on their items. Education your kids is also a part of the responsibility of being parents. Your kids like drawings? Perfect! Teach him/her draw on the paper instead of someone else's clothes, items etc.
Yeah exactly I totally understand why a parent would still ask for it to be cleaned off
Its 50/50
Its the thought that counts
But like if they key'd a doodle on a car... Like that's nice but that crossing boundaries
When they're older and have kids they'll understand
Its not that you don't love or appreciate them
But you can't support everything
There are things you can and can't do
And they'll understand that as well one day
Exactly. It's not a matter of "appreciating/loving your kid", it's a matter of respecting other people's belongings. I literally cried when my little niece drew over one of my sketchbooks when I was a teenager, and in all honesty, I'd still cry if a kid drew over my artworks now as an adult 😂 And they didn't even cost money, just my time and dedication.
Of course, that doesn't mean the child should be punished, maybe just a warning and a talk, but it's not something you can just brush off, either.
@@Selakora Maybe you should just give him more paper to draw on. Maybe it's a future artist, that's trapped inside...

The mom probably saw Kim Kardashian's and wanted the same thing then took it in for cleaning when she got sick of it.
Pro tip: the ink in Permanent Markers is Solvent Based. If you draw a line directly over an existing line, that solvent breaks down the old ink, and you can wipe it right off. Not sure how well it would work on something as porous as leather, but it works great on most other materials.
It will only work on non-porous surface like plastic, glass or even faux leather but since this bag is genuine leather this trick won't work here.
@@ad08star I figured, but I’ve never tried it. I’ve used it mostly on Steel, Stainless Steel, plastic and glass. On those hard, non-porous surfaces it works like a charm.

Sure, if the purse owner feels the same way. It should still be explained to the kid to not to do that to other people's things without permission though. Imagine she did it on something important or another person who has no reason to find it endearing.
Imagine the spoiled entitled person the kid would grow up to be if they were rewarded for it without that understanding.
@@ZephyrinSkies you're right. As much as I dislike "luxury" brands, I'd be appalled if one of my sons thought it was acceptable to draw on someone else's property, even of it was a $10 purse.
Wow. Many comments judging people for saying that those who prefer removing the stains value possessions more than people. Firstly, I would like to dare all these people to allow children to vandalize every possession they have even the ones with sentimental value. Second, it’s the owner’s prerogative whether to keep the stain or not and that doesn’t correlate with what kind of person they are. Maybe they let it go with the child but chose to have it restored either way. If it were my things, of course I would scold the child for not respecting boundaries when it comes to possessions and I’d try to find the root cause and find more acceptable creative outlets. It’s not an either/or thing y’know.
That's what happens when you leave an expensive bag with a child alone 🤷♀️
@@deathlight4210 Children generally need to be educated as to proper behavior. Left to their own devices and crayons, many children draw on the wall and then they are disciplined and educated to avoid those behaviors and find more acceptable outlets. So while it happens, it can and ought to be corrected, that’s all.
GLADLY!
how you gonna get this pressed over people vandalizing a Chanel bag you need to think before you just say anything, you act like children never draw on walls or drop juice on expensive rugs KIDS COST MONEY they aren’t little janitors, plus it would make the bag more meaningful to not only BE. a Chanel bag but to hold Annabelles drawing forever Money is always there possessions are replaceable but her age and her moments of creativity the literal pureness of a child drawing on a 3,000 bag is not something money can buy, clearly her mom doesn’t care and its no skin off her back how much this is since she also has the money to pay for restoration. when i was a teenager and my little sister got a hold of my disney world autograph book she erased my name that i wrote when i was 5 and put hers under mine whats crazy was my imprint was still in that book next to hers though i was sad at first i wasn’t mad i explained the importance of my book to her and she understood now shes 11 and i can’t get those years back with her my book has become 100x more valuable then what it was
These are either people who never had kids or the people who bring their children shopping and let them run around bumping into people, screaming their lungs out and breaking things and feeling offended when someone warns them or their kids....
RIP to the "Annabelle"... The Artist... May your mother have mercy😂
Children should behave to not draw on, or destroy things of people. They have papers, draw on it, not everything are their place to draw on.
I thought they would remove all that stain and it was hilarious when paint sprayer showed up. Joking aside, it's so impressive to find exact color of bag. Even without color calibration tool.
Lol people here saying “awwww but the drawing is adorable and has such sentimental value, blah blah” just makes me cringe. Sure, kids can make lovely drawings and I even have one of my best friends little girl in my fridge’s door but one thing is calling something like this adorable and deny that this is not ok. Teaching children respect whether is an expensive bag or not, chances are you will help the child to be a respectful adult. Applauding this is as bad as encouraging bad behaviour.
So true.. these are the same people who push the flight attendant to switch seats because of a crying toddler. It's so easy to virtue signal. But rather than trying for virtual brownie points, they should show some maturity and responsible behaviour. Teens come to papa internet to get tips on interacting with the world when they get bored of listening to their own parents. What if they listen to goofs on the internet virtue signalling and form a rather dumb opinion on parenting based on stupid consensus 😔. That would make the teens future helicopter-parents with snowflake-kids. What a nightmare.
Atleast socializing the kid now can ensure that the child can later be tolerated by people other than their parents, or even better welcomed by other people fondly due to polished behaviour and charming manners. This is what the child really needs. Good behaviour, mentoring that allows him to have a better sense of well-being due to positive response from his interaction with society.
This is real virtue the wokish people will never understand, cause this is greater virtue called conscientiousness.
I agree children need to have healthy boundaries. They need to have respect for their own things as well as the items of others. It is helpful for children to grow up understanding that we need to take care of the things we have. Someday they will work hard for their things and won’t appreciate someone destroying something they bought with their hard earned money.
@@rosaruiz4591 absolutely, then when that child grows (if behaviour like this keeps being applauded) will be that type of adult that will feel entitled to do whatever they want without consequences or any kind of respect for others, because parents never taught them boundaries. It's good if they teach the kid to not bother other people's/their family's things without permission. Except in a less aggressive (because there's people out there who would be _real_ angry on things like this. like c'mon, sure it's bad sometimes, but that's a kid) and more calm way. why are y’all acting like the mother or father is a bad parent bc they want a nice purse?
We're not saying that, we're just noticing that the bag was dirty to begin with (check the edges, hasn't been cleaned in years) so why would she be mad at some unique edgy style? The bag needed a refresh! 🤣
@@gladitsnotme | not unique but oki
It isn't that nice of a purse... I'd go as far to say it is ugly.
they're a bad parent for not supervising their kid
@@ADMmachine the parent not being near their kid for that given moment doesnt mean that theyre a bad parent or that they never supervise their child
The kid had some artistic skills.
You mean Joey

@@ayushmankirar2731 It’s a joke because that’s something Joey from the tv show Friends would do hahaha
they should make a special edition of this purse that has the drawing on it
I think that is the whole point of this video. Drawing does not look like it's made by a child. It's perfectly placed on the bag. The want it to go viral, maybe reproduce an sell the bag with drawing.
When I was a kid, my brother and I really like to draw. When I was about to draw on my mom's bag, she said
"You already have a big wall in your room" lol
Children should behave to not draw on, or destroy things of people. They have papers, draw on it, not everything are their place to draw on.
@@adw6894 yo dude shut up.
@@adw6894 you dont know their story behind the comment lol.
@@adw6894 exactly! And just like OP pointed out, maybe they’re also allowed to draw on the walls in their room or something like that. This isn’t the parents saying they’re not allowed to draw, it’s then saying they aren’t allowed to take other people’s things and draw on them.
@@guacolea neither do you. 🙄 OP literally pointed out that their money didn’t want them to draw in certain surfaces and encouraged them to draw in something else. This person just affirmed what OP said by saying that kids shouldn’t be allowed to draw on anything and everything.
I would have just given the kid more colors of markers and told them to go to town.
I doubt that… well, unless it wasn’t your bag
I'd let my kids be creative and draw whatever they want.... on the paper, not on my bag 😶
Yeah if you don't want the colors anymore get it professionally cleaned, clean it yourself or flip the bag over.
with more colours, Ithink annabelle would have actually made the bag look better than it looks without. it's a rather ugly, douchey bag in my opinion.
@vawies
Was this meant to be insulting or.. lol?
I really LOVED the blue drawing on it. Chanel should incorporate it in their collection and give the kid credit and money for it. Honestly
Sounds like a way to create an entitled monster, jokes aside. Is fine to encourage artistic energy but kids need to learn boundaries and respect for other people's things.
Am i the only one that actually thinks the drawing should have increased the value of the bag? Something about the whole thing speaks to me lol
if it had a flashy signature by the drawing ppl would be killing to get it but as it has no image value ppl just don't care...
it's the bags under the eyes.
Sell it on ebay and let see if anyone would buy this bag for 1 million dollars
I actually LOVED the drawing on the bag. Reminds me of the high fasion trend of intentional distress or Louis Vuitton's Keepall Bandoulière 50 Lv Graffiti Multicolor 💕 also its a sweet reminder of your kid when you see it!
Beautiful restoration! I actually like the drawing - but not on a Chanel!
GD, Chanel ambassador, would have treasured that bag because he loves customized fashion items so much.
But the skills and effort to remove the marker is really amazing.
GDragon right? 😁
So she just remove some of the ink and cover it with a coat of airbrush? And if the bag gets older, the ink might be visible, unless the paint is lightfast.
Idk about restorations but this restored bag wouldn't last long. The drawing will still be in there.
They said they used paint that doesn't allow ink to be visible through it. Plus it could be repainted.
Best durex ad lol
As a guy, never thought I'd care about something like this. But here I am enjoying it!
They are reselling drawn-on, cleaned and repainted bags for 85-95% of their original value?! That seems insane to me. I was expecting them to say they resold them for 50% the original price.
How to charge more 1-1
Some people have bought the hype that these bags will go up 10 times in value in X amount of years.
They forget the reason that Rolex and other old swiss watches are expensive..is cause they were rare.
Most of these expensive bags are NOT rare
Scarcity
The drawing is more stylish than the bag.
If that drawing made by the artist, it will worth more than the beg itself
Oh you mean piccaso?

Honestly the drawing pretty much ICONIC

@@adw6894 oh come on! It's KID behaviour. Yes, kids should be taught not to draw on anything that's expensive but it's totally normal they sometimes do. I draw on everything as a kid because I thought it if it was white it was too boring. And guess what I've been studying graphic design! ;)
Looked better with the drawing
That drawing is actually so cool
An awfully drawn patrick with a weird head shaped woman flipping off.
Cool indeed
No it fuckin isn't. Stop capping
I love the drawing, very creative child! Not sure it works here as "wearable", but it is certainly art.
Once I drew on my childhood bedroom's wall while my mom took a shower and im 27 and the drawings still on the wall ☺️ i later really became and artist haha

Btw good job of course!!
Real title of the vid:
*How a Priceless Piece of Art on a Chanel GST is Professionally Ruined*
Just remember. While it's okay to laugh at people getting upset over someone drawing on a bag, it's also alright if you get laughed at for something other people find silly. Those who throw must be ready to recieve.
Exactly
I‘d love to watch the asmr version of this cleaning process
The mother reading the comments and realising she should’ve kept the drawing: 😢
I liked it with the artistry.
Blessed be all the souls of the children of this world.
May we all communicate and reach out to each other
Plot twist- The products used to restore the purse were more expensive than the purse itself.
*more expensive than the manufacturing of the purse. Not more the price that was charged for it, obviously.
Kids should behave to not draw on people's things without permission. It's bad behavior. They have papers, draw on it. Not everything are kid's place to destroy or draw on.
The sucker who buys this “restored” bag is going to be very annoyed a year from now when the white paint wears off.
The person who is ready to pay that crazy price for a useless bag, that you can't actually put on your back - totally deserve it.
Leather paint can sit for decades. Most likely your leather couch is painted.
People who buy these types of things probably have more money than brains.
As most of these scenarios would make me cry… i could not help but laugh at this one!!!! This made my day!
Mad respect to the kid that did that
I initially thought, removing that ink is impossible, I wonder how they did it. Basically, they just paint over it... I am severely disappointed, clickbait wins again.
It’s not click bait. You’re just stupid. Restoration means correction, not removal.
I think her Chanel was beautifully personalized. I would keep the the original “Annabelle” version. 😉👍🌹❤️
Maybe it's just me, but I'm pretty sure that's the $10 airbrush you can buy at harbor freight
Um...hello insider?
The drawing was ICONIC.
How could you remove ittt?
It’s like removing a Tesla logo from a Tesla car.
It's a bad iconic drawing
I kinda like the drawing though. I would totally keep it as is and cherish it♥️
An actress from the Philippines is also famous for her paintings on bags, especially on luxurious and expensive ones. That kid might be a great artist someday and her works could cost millions of dollars or more.
Yeah and they could have devalued the bag by thousands! Erm I mean millions.
@@bobnbutters people who want their bags painted probably don't care about the devaluation or even selling their bag so it's not a big problem if they want to have a personalised painting on their bag.
She even signed the bag 😭😭😂
The kid drew mommy on her bag, she's a superstar hence the two stars.
