This got sold out in a few minutes on a popular online shopping platform here in the Philippines. More than anything else, it's really the cheap price that draws people to buy this phone. For the well off, it could just be a regular utility phone. But for economically deprived, this may already look like a flagship and something they can brag about.
For those who are thinking of buying this in 2022, please stay away. Poco M3 and its twin, Redmi 9T, suffer from the “dead boot” issue. If you try to reboot, it will shut down but not boot up. No combination of power and volume button presses can turn it on. Only solution is to wait for the battery to fully drain, then connect to a charger. If the empty battery icon appears, try to turn it on. If it goes back to deadboot, try again (drain battery, connect to charger, try to turn on). Took me 3 tries before I succeeded, and now the phone must avoid reboots.
It's all a matter of opinion. I just recently bought a Poco M3 and in my opinion it's the best budget phone. If you want to waist your money that's up to you, but why should I pay for features that I will never use?
They generally don't I agree. I'm trying to think of better budget phones with these kinds of specs, around this price, and I can't immediately think of any. Especially at the $129 opening sale price.
if someone had offered me this smartphone four or five years ago, I would have taken it immediately ... today I have a little more demands for a good smartphone :)...perfect review as usual :)
More $550, Snapdragon 662 is better than the 821, 4GB Ram was top end then (bear in mind we’re talking about Galaxy S6/S7 generation) multiple cameras were pretty much unheard of, 6000Mah battery and the bezelless screen, so you’re looking at $550 upwards
I still have my Sony XZ bought in 2016 for $600. Even with flagship chipset SD820, the XZ is not really smooth, drains battery like drinking water and worst of all heat up like crazy until the main camera is not usable due to overheating.
Hey Chris! 3 Things -- the first on a totally unrelated topic that we enjoy: 1. Next to nobody on UA-cam reviewed the kinda new Beelink GK55 windows 10 Mini PC. I needed to upgrade the one at my TV and WOW what an upgrade for 11/11 price of $179 shipped and taxed to the US. I refused to believe that Intel J4125 really based clocked at 2Ghz, but it does. Fan noise is a mixed bag: it's a soft harmless sound but than fan seems to be always on. (Hmm.) I may install FAN CONTROL and play with it. But what a value for someone like me who doesn't game but wants 8GBs of RAM and the ability to stream 1080p60 without gumming things up. (I had a 1Ghz Celeron from two years back.) 2. I agree that this screen frankly looks like garbage on camera. And that this phone in general seems to be a misfire. 3. A question, sir. Did Apple and Samsung destroy the AMOLED and Gorilla Glass 5/6 market this year? It's the only way I can explain Xiaomi (and others) taking these giant backwards steps. Even the newer Nord stepped back this way. What do you think?
I bought a similarly specced Redmi 9T (4GB / 64GB, SD 662) for my mom, and it doesn't have the UI lags shown here with the Poco M3. Battery life is great, lasting several days, though my mom is a light user. Must be a Poco specific optimization issue.
100% agree, superb review as always. Cris can you review the ASUS VivoBook Flip 14? With Ryzen 5 4500U or R7 4700, Expandable RAM (4GB onboard + slot) and pen?
Another great review here... Absolutely honest reviews, with much testing and samples. I did actually buy this on first day (don't have it yet) of sales. Really hoping some updates and Gcam will fix some issues. Certainly poco x3 is way better but my budget was low at the moment (plus my old phone has cracked screen) so I've gone with this one... Official price is 129 euros for EU with free shipping, certainly a good price but nothing extra ordinary. It should never sell above that price point, 149 euros for the 64 gb is way too much. And I do think the price is going to keep at the current price because, let's face it, at 149 euros it has serious competition. Plus, one last thing: Chris is an honest reviewer, my favorite one (and i see a lot). No-one should actually attack him for such an honest review! Keep them coming Chris!
For 103 Euros on BlackFriday it was a deal as entry level smartphone. For 150 Euro it IS too expensive, go for Redmi Note 9S instead at 140 Euros... Watch out for deals tomorrow, Cyber Monday!!!
I love honest reviews like yours and bought this phone after watching those so i won't have any nasty surprises. By the time I got my hands on this I think the lags have been fixed. So far, after a few weeks of use, the phone performs as expected and appears to be awesome value for money.
Same case as Oneplus. Claiming to be independent, but Oneplus is still sharing techs and parts with Oppo and other companies under BBK. Poco is doing the same to save costs.

I moved from Samsung Notes to Xiaomi Redmi Notes and never looked back. Now that Xiaomi phones are getting expensive, POCO will be my next change. Slow animation is OK when you get used to it and an average camera is not a problem if you don't take many pictures, like myself. The price for this quality is too hard to beat.
Chances are lower right now with failure of iPhone 12 Mini... It didn't sold well so that will give "no little, slim phones wanted" message for smartphone industry...
Its ok, well kind of... back is interesting and in yellow colour its looks great for me. But Redmi 9 has similar price, a bit lower battery, but more capable camera setup with ultra wide. Plus, Helio G80 is more capable chip than SD 662, it wont noticable for majority of users but still.....
Thanks for the nice work , always enjoying your reviews , would You be so kind and compare S10 lite with S20FE p990 , battery life , camera.....value for money
The lack of NFC, an ultrawide cam and a gyroscope when for an extra €40 you can have both from the likes of the Redmi Note 9 or Realme 7 means I don't think this is worth it imo
Thank you for the honest review. Feels like every other youtuber is just hyping it up. Got it on a cheap preorder deal for 80 bucks so I am curious how well it is.
Most likely, it's for sure some software issue. I work in IT and I'm passionate about embedded and phones and I think there's plenty of power in the hardware here to run some basic things like some animations and stuff. The problem is the software. Come on , my wife has a Leeco with a Snapdragon 652 and with Lineage OS it's running smoothly. The only real problem is the battery life but it had a 3000 mAh battery when it was new, now it's more like 2300 mAh.
@@hafiz5375 That too but sometimes it's the drivers or the actual implementation of the animations. Once I get the phone I'll try to see which it is... Need to check the performance of the GPU driver but if that's OK it means it's how POCO implemented the animations.
This one I believe is on the same platform as the recently announced Redmi note 9 4G version in China. Would be great if you can get that one and have a comparison between the 2. Thanks for the great review as always!

Performance wise it is a wee bit better than the Snapdragon 660, a bit on the slowside compared to the Snapdragon 665 because of its GPU... It is a media consumption device and one meant for working class people who require the bare minimum in some regards and the very best in a very small niche, say, Screen size, battery capacity, price to performance, etc.
That 3 in 1 slot for simcard and microsd card is really rare nowadays, only asus that have the same feature like that...hope many brand will follow this step
Does the UI feel better when you turn the animations down or off completely in Developer Options? I tend to do that by habit with phones now as animations just annoy me, no matter how 'cool' the companies think they make their UI look.
I wonder if they could have picked a more powerful Mediatek CPU instead of the Snapdragon 662 for the same cost since Mediatek got better over the past
i think they aimed for value hunters here as it supports gcam this way. Helio G90T would be much better as in Realme 6S that even has 90Hz screen and sells, atleast in my country for 170€. I think if they left out two 2 MP useless cameras and stereo speakers, they could have put in Helio G90T.
I guess, most people are saving and they think, if people cant get the best performance on a budget... then, why not give them.a snapdragon chip so they can have Gcam. thats what you call compensation of whats not there.
Camera looks worse than the one on my Xiaomi Note 4 from 3 years ago (which in most other aspects is still a great phone for the money). Love your totally honest reviews, Chris. You're the best.

Just purchased one and first impressions are very good especially given the price point. The way I see it is that you can now get all the phone any"normal" user will ever need for £100 which is awesome. Basically if you're not rich you can now have a really decent phone too!
Dude, this review really helped, I was seriously considering spending 20% less on this one than on the X3 Pro (as a gift for someone else), but yeah everything you explained makes it kinda yucky
Xiaomi should disable miui12 fancy animations and stuff for low-end phones. Redmi 9A suffers from same UI lags that after disabling animations from developer tools offers much better performance for its price

The Poco logo looks out of place. The placement is a bit off, and the font is awful. I think if they centered it, and made it black font on black plastic so that it's a little bit more subtle, it will be much better.

criticises the company even though got the phone for free, true legend
deserved a like
😂
Just purchased one and first impressions are very good especially given the price point. The way I see it is that you can now get all the phone any"normal" user will ever need for £100 which is awesome. Basically if you're not rich you can now have a really decent phone too!
So, does the 64 GB model uses eMMC flash storage? Thanks for your hard work!
UFS 2.1 and the 128GB UFS 2.2
Samsung ucmp chip(memory and flash in one chip),lpddr4x+ufs2.2
Thanks for the great review, appreciate these real reviews, not the mock adverts the rest of UA-cam has become!
I own one and I agree with all the points presented🤷
Could you please test if there's still UI lag after switching launcher?
how do u switch launcher ?
@@aqilazri6874 download from playstore and set it as default launcher
It really improved things
@@Techtablets can u suggest one ?

Thanks a lot for this video Chris. I just wanted to see it from you and here it is.
Great, thanks for watching
I appreciate the honest review, thank you. Was planning to buy this phone
Nice review, for its normal price, i think it's better to go for redmi note 8 pro which now costs around the same and it's much better in everything
Dude, this review really helped, I was seriously considering spending 20% less on this one than on the X3 Pro (as a gift for someone else), but yeah everything you explained makes it kinda yucky
Does oneplus nord has ads like realmi phones
Thanks for detailed reviews . You tell us what we want to know
Xiaomi should disable miui12 fancy animations and stuff for low-end phones. Redmi 9A suffers from same UI lags that after disabling animations from developer tools offers much better performance for its price
Did they released a update that fixes laggy UI?
A few updates but it still lags
They shouldve given this phone a 720p display with higher brightness, would be more easy to run for The chipset
I love the videos You make for us not having the latest of tech! I Have had so much benefits for just looking Your videos! Need to replace my Nokia 7 plus and looking for same perf for half the price, so still looking! Thak You! You make some awsome reviews! Oh well, they are all awsome...
Does it have a notification led?
whats the battery type of this phone, li ion or li polymer? can you check it on cpu z app and tell us? thanks.
You guys think the lag can be fixed with a system update?
No
Miui is only optimized for flag ship
:')
Not for budgets and never will
@@iknowu9967 Damn bro I was actually planning on buying a budget xiaomi phone like the redmi note 9 but after hearing this I am discouraged
@@jewelpastoral1446
Budget phones might be laggy but not that bad
Just don't play some high end games
It will be ok for normal users
@@iknowu9967 im gonma think about it because im just gonna video edit for my projects and film for a few minutes and scroll to social media and stuff you think this phone can handle it or should I just find another alternative? Or wait for like the poco m4?
@@jewelpastoral1446
Just get some mid range phones
Video quality is terrible at budget ones
add more couple of buck and buy k30 ultra or pro
it will be a better option for video recording
And also gaming and everything
Thanks for the review. I am still using the excellent Redmi Note 4 as a backup phone and use it mainly for youtube, actually I am writing with it know. So I'm kinda on the Xiaomi's side on the budget segment. For some people 20 dollars is a big deal. If I needed a second phone, I might buy Poco M3 but I don't need one yet.
Well I went from sony m5 3/16 .2016 :))) to a new Poco m3 4/64... For me it's a rocketship
Lag is a optimization problem definitely. Love your honesty.
For me it's not lagging on my end
Thanks. Can you measure contrast ratio of display?
What are the chances in your opinion that they can fix the performance and battery life with updates?
Right now they have the 64gb version for 110€, which is damn low.
Hi, I've been following your video ever since mi4s times, keep up the quality review and have my subs 😁
Wow that's a long time thanks 😊🙂
Which one is better poco m3 or Huawei y7a about games and camera?
Great review, clear and honest, love it! I actually won this phone from Poco themselves and I am so curious to my personal findings when it arrives!
Hi, i have samsung galaxy A40 and i am thinking about this poco. What do you think is better<
sorry for my english
Hey techtablets can you help me? Which is better tecno pova ld7 or poco m3?
10:32 FINALLY! CHRIS IS DEFINITELY A LIVING EMBODIMENT OF "THIS IS FINE" MEME!1!1
I think you can try to compare POCO M3 and Redmi 9 also to see which one is better
The Poco logo looks out of place. The placement is a bit off, and the font is awful. I think if they centered it, and made it black font on black plastic so that it's a little bit more subtle, it will be much better.
It has FM radio
Ir blaster
Dual stereo speaker
Tolerable design
150 dollars
Sounds like a good phone for my mom,❤️
I'm so used to slow phones I don't even care if it takes 2 seconds to open apps.
i iown this phone and yes you are right, but with the gcam app the camera improves greatly and almost the same quality as the mi8 i have. it's not great but for the price it's ok i think
I think Redmi 9 is a better choice here.
No because this poco have storage memory speed ufs 2.1 which will improve speed of your system
@K B rn7 is only 1 year old
@K B sounds like you cheaped out and feel buyer's remorse. G80=662. Stop spreading misinformation.
