Figs are so amazing! Fig bread - really just dried fig paste, which I make with brandy - can last for years. Re-hydrate overnight and use the next day in any of a hundred different ways. Even just mixed with butter and spread on fresh bread is a little bit of heaven in your mouth. A little (with a creamy salty cheese) on a pizza. Ai nossa! And green figs make some of the best wine you'll ever taste. A few figs, a little sugar, some yeast and patience . . . . nature will reward you with a wine fit to serve the gods. Such a humble fruit but so amazing!

Where can we get green figs though?

@@stevenholton438 True that! Fewer and fewer stores stock and if they do the prices are madness. One has to beg, borrow and - quite literally - steal them!
I won't lie, it is not easy to find. Try every farmers' & fresh produce market, ask around. I even knock on doors of people with fruit trees in their gardens. You won't believe how often people that have fruit trees don't look after them or don't even eat the fruit. A small arrangement with such people and you'll often have an entire season's fruit all to yourself. Good luck!

A friend just gave me 30 lbs. of dried figs. I have hydrated about 2 gal. and am ready to grind to make fig preserves. I use an unrefined natural brown sugar but not as much sugar as in commercial fig preserve recipes and many people love it.

There's no bread there, it's just preserved fig.

Sorry but fig bread is not of croatian origin. On the contrary its an ancient traditional recipe used and develoeped primarily by the Illiryans. In Albania we still eat it and we call it bukefiqe which is fig bread in albanian.

You're so funny. Albanians are not even European 😂!! You're western Asian. Caucasus region. Even the name Shqiptar is Asian in origin. The ending (-AR) like Shqipt(AR), Tat(AR) Haz(AR), Av(AR) is clearly Asian in origin. Your language sounds very similar to Georgian.

@@katerinapatiniotis5598I am funny? Did you actually read your comment before posting it? Well I guess it's always the same with you greek ultra nationalists successfuly brainwashed by your government to believe false stories for the pathetic intention of enacting even more landgrabbing like in the past. If you did read a bit maybe you wouldnt be this delusional. It was people like Pliny the Elder and even greek historians like Aristoteles who mention the illyrians and define them as a separate culture with their unique traditions and language, which are still present to this day in ethnic Albania. Tell me which official source states that the albanians migrated from asia after the illyrian period? Cause im curious as its too funny of a theory to hear :')
