    make sure to change the water weekly so your plants root still have access to oxygen. and because the plant isn’t in soil and therefore isn’t getting its nutrients from soil, you should use a liquid fertilizer and fertilize one a month!

    In Brazil we have a mosquito that loves water it gives you a deasese called DENGUE, it puts its eggs on the water speacially in vases, water that doesn't move, and then more mosquitos are born it bites you and you can get this deasese, a few years back I had DENGUE, I was hopitalized for 4 days, I was terrible, here many people di3 just because a simple vase with water, so depending the country you live in, dirt is always a better option

    A couple of things I would mention, having done Kratky Hydroponics. Don't fill the water all the way up, as plants in solution actually like the top portion of their roots not in water ("air roots"). For algae, you can put a little hydrogen peroxide in the water (but the low dilution product from the pharmacy has a stabiliser in it. It will work enough if you cannot get the unstabilised H202. You will get algae in a clear container. Finally, put some for-hydro nutrients in the water. The for-soil nutrients do not have the right blend. You can usually get cheap hydro nutrients (all-in-one products) for little one-off projects like this. If you are serious about hydro, then you need to get quality nutrients.

    • @e.b.4379
      @e.b.4379 Рік тому +4

      In an ideal world, you wouldn’t actually convert roots from soil to water. This is because moving plants can indeed shock and fill them. Most people find it far more beneficial to start growing cuttings inside of water (i.e. propagate). This way the roots will develop in the water. It is tough for a plant to adapt to a new environment so you have to be super gentle and not to handle the roots roughly.

    I mean don't the water get muddy or do algiers start to grow or something in the long run.
    Also I wonder do stones get nutrients to the plant or do you have to add in the water?
    I got one more question sorry, my plant has a pretty long stem is it harmful to "bury" the stem in the stones?

      Funny, I water propagate a lot, and I never have roots rotting even though the entire point of water propagation is growing roots in the water. Sometimes, I've even had them living in the water for months after technically being ready to move because life got away from me, and I didn't get them potted up. As long as I remember to keep the water topped up ie. always covering the roots, they're absolutely fine.

      I have quite a few things that have been in distilled water only since I began trying in July 2022. And they’re thriving wonderfully- better than I thought they would actually. Wish we could share photos- I have 2 avocado trees I began from just the (pit) seeds that are both about 3-4+ feet tall, but would be much taller if I did not have to cut them back as part of the process. Always having been in water & the roots are a thriving wonder to look at in the glass too- very lovely I’ll say. Pathos are another one that’s been doing very well, & shockingly 1 ginger root that’s decided it’s happy with the water, lol. Learning curve from doing a land garden to apartment growing has been an adventure to say the least :)

      I've noticed that with my plants in only water too. Once I plant them properly with soil they start new growth like crazy. They need the nutrients.

      @@sharedexperiences2773 many people grow plants in hydroponics or semi-hydroponics and for that, they use nutrient solution. Using just plain water is only good for plant propagation but if you want to continue growing the plant in water, you need to add in nutrients specifically for hydroponics.
