    As someone very new to spinning, this has been extremely helpful. Even just learning about the different types of sheep that exist and what they're called is a huge help, so thank you very much for all this great info!

    Great and informative episode! My favorite sheep fibers are Finn, BFL and Cormo. May have to add in Polworth as well once I spin more of it.

      You can never go wrong with a lil BFL! Maybe I’d like Cormo more with some practice! Thank you for watching ☺️

    Polwarth and Rambo have been so yummy to spin with. Rambo feels like marshmallow! I see CVM in my future hahaha Thanks so much for sharing this. I feel the same about spinning merino, but I have to admit its so pretty after it's spun. I definitely have more fun with more rustic yarns.

      I’ve been hoarding some beautifully dyed Rambo for far too long, might be time to bring it back out! Merino is in everyone’s collection, so it ends up in lots of destash’s which I tend to shop around in- although it’s not my fav by itself I incorporate it in a lot of blends for its color & softness for sure! Happy to share ☺️

      @@Wooltogold yes! Bring it out! I will try that with merino. Thanks!

    I think it’s amazing you got so many breeds sampled in a year. The prep style and quality of prep makes such a huge difference.
    Right now I’m drop spindling a Romney cross (no idea of what it is crossed with). I’m loving it. It’s really lofty and sproingy.
    I love how nerdy you are about wool. It’s a wonderful and hard to find quality in a person.

    I have to agree with your opinion on "you think you know all wools, but you don't know all wools" and what you said about longwools as well. I only had experience with Border Leicester and BFL until the past couple of weeks, and now i'm honestly in love with Wensleydale after just spinning up 100g of combed top of it in a 12 breed study i'd been doing over the 12 days of christmas.

      Wensleydale is so fun and the LUSTER 🤩 I have so many breeds left to try and I look forward to all the differences! They really do just keeps surprising us 🐏

    what a productive, creative, and interesting year you had!!! can't wait to see what this year holds for you!!!
    I am enjoying your youtube vids! it is evident how hard you are working as a content creator. it's not easy, and it is so time-consuming. but you are doing fantastic!

      Aw thank you so much! I didn’t even realize it until the new year passed how much I had gotten done this year! Excited to see what the new year holds for BOTH of us!! I think 2024 is a year for fiber of all kinds!
      I’m getting better and better 👍🏼 editing is a learning curve but I’m learning and figuring out what the people want to hear about! Thank you for all the support 💕

    Happy New Year! XD Seems us fluff-people think alike lol… I, too, have a ‘breed-study-scarf’! Although, the Jacob sheep wool on my sample was about as soft as a pot-scrubby, so I may have to find another source elsewhere to get a better handle on whether or not I like it. I am primarily a spindle-spinner (I tried a wheel when I was first learning to spin, and the thing had too high a tension, and damn near yanked me forward; promptly decided NOPE!), and have discovered that spindles are like potato chips; you can never have just one! However, we’ve borrowed back the little Louet wheel we sold, and I have just done a skein of chunky purple corridale on it. The wheel seems to like me well enough, once I got her flyer-hook-configuration figured out lol!
    O.o And it’s right near 4:40 am and I’ve waffled on enough. Bedtime for me! Keep well (and at least semi-sane!) and spin on!

      Happy new year! We all like to show off our study one way or another haha! Jacob had SUCH a wide range of “breed qualifying” fiber types so if you source right you can get something in the lower 20’s for micron count- older rams especially can give fiber in the 30’s though in my experience 🥲 I’d really like to grow my flock of spindles, any favorites amount your flock?

      @@Wooltogold Hmmmm… I have a Peruvian chak-chak from StraddleCreekSpins; a bit pricy, but beautiful, and the clickety chattering sounds are very relaxing! I have a little lace-spindle from John Galen, which is absolutely beautiful. He does heavier spindles, too. Also, I have a Daughters of Smaug supported spindle from NatureApothacaryUS, which makes me feel like a medieval person when I spin with it lol!

    I LOVED spinning Black Welsh Mountain. I found it at a LYS and it was my first spin on my wheel. I am so envious of all the different breeds you have gotten your hands on. Do you have any resources you can recommend to learn about all the different breeds and where to find them?

    • @Wooltogold
      @Wooltogold  9 місяців тому

      For resources to learn about them: The Fleece & Fiber Sourcebook is my favorite source by far! So useful, has SO many breeds, and includes things like vicuña and possum! For sources, the Livestock Conservency website is a good resource for wool providers, I also regularly research the “breed study packs” kits that some sellers offer! Many are limited release so I look around every few months to see what’s new/might be worth picking up!

    Hey, with the poly drive band is it good to take it off the wheel when the wheels resting or does it matter?

    Hi. Do you have any experience with Ouessant sheep wool? I have 4 sheep (2 white, 2 "black" = dark brown), I have their last year fleeces, but I am still hesitant what to do with their wool, because they are really multicoated 🙂

    • @Wooltogold
      @Wooltogold  5 місяців тому

      I don’t have much experience with their wool at all! Many people ask me about the breed because of their size and look (very pretty sheep in my opinion) but I haven’t had the chance to spin it! Perhaps a rug or weaving yarn would be the best project for something with super variable coat length (kinda like herdwick can sometimes be?)
