The reason the pro gear did not record AFM stereo is the second carrier for the stereo sound required the lumanence sideband be rolled off early to make room for the additional audio carrier. By making the AFM mono, more bandwidth could be used for picture increasing the quality. The broadcast camera was all about picture quality as it already has digital stereo sound, so having a second stereo sound track was seen as a waste of bandwidth that would better be used for a sharper picture.
6:46 Beta Hifi was done like VHS HiFi in PAL countries using extra heads, not with the video heads. The PAL equivalent to this EVS7000 is the EV-S9000E, I've done several videos on them. They are becoming unsupportable now due to reel tables splitting and sometimes due to mass capacitor failure on the main board. I have a Hitachi HR-C20 which is a badge engineered EVO9800P.
The reel table split is a real problem wrth these nightmares. The evs3000 so much better as a player. Mine is reserved for PCM playback only. Yes i know beta HiFi pal used extra heads. Due to the slower rotational speed of the drum there wasn't enough bandwidth to raise the carrier frequency 400khz to free up space between the lumanence avd and chroma signals.
That brush design on the head cleaning wheel is definitely an improvement over the foam types found on VHS. I remember the Panasonic broadcast D3 format had a button on the front panel that could manually activate the head cleaner if the heads were getting dirty during playback.
There is a reason i use an analog scope. I have both and you will never see me attempt to align a VCR or CD player with a digital scope. Nor will i look at any complex analog waveform such as video. They are good for capturing fast digital events and that's about it in my opinion. Some of the super expensive ones may be fine but none of the cheap ones I have are are and bloody good.
Well i basically waste my time on these because these videos don't make any money. So far a meaaley 50 cents on this one. The house moving video did better than. VCR videos.
Hi, I've got a Sony EVO-9850. When playing back a cassette with PCM audio, the audio is there but sounds like it's bubbling underwater, or some frequency is oscilating the audio. It's unusable the way it is, do you have any thoughts on it, or where to look? Thanks so much. Enjoying your content!
Hi I have a question 😅 I have a camcorder that has a cassette tape opening that won’t open to be able to put the cassette in… idk if it’s an easy fix or if I should probably take it into a store?
Only :11 into this but I must say your timing is impeccable! I have an EVS-550 with distorted PCM audio and was also scratching my head wondering where that sound is processed. In looking for alternate ways to play back that PCM audio I was wondering if there were any camcorders at all that played back PCM audio? Thanks for the video!
Ccdv5000 had PCM and there was an older video8 version as well as a video 8 home deck that had a pan adapter (like the beta hi ready that had the pan adapter that sat below the unit) PCM audio was baked into 8mm from day i. Even the original ccdv8 and ccdv110 cameras could use the pan adapter as it used the same plug and added audio dubbing to the old cameras going back to the very first model. The v5000 was the first hi8 with PCM audio, but then again the v5000 was the first hi8 camera.
Well it didn't take you long to find the fault :-D When i used to repair c.b radios, those red variable capacitors were a bloody pain in the arse! They caused problems with the synth, the internal contacts in the trimmer were a pain. I often fitted a normal open variable, more reliable.
Actually it did. It's called editing. I was on this for several hours to get to this point. I started the video right after lunch, did the intro and started taking apart. Got called away to deal with other stuff. Then some union stuff came down the pipe from work and I was having a discussion with a work colleague then a friend dropped off a goodie for be to tear down, then the post office called to say 2 bug boxes were ready to pick up then i finally got back on this one and spent a bunch of time on it. Then had to edit. Watch Chris rock special dam bear pissed myself at the shots he took at Billy Smith and then it was time to upload and premiere. Full day on this one.

As an Engineering Tech from Trinidad and Tobago this video was appreciated!
At some point I will edit and put up the festival.

I have the donor for the EVW300 going out to you next week!! great video!

Betacam had that as well. Solenoid operated.
Apparently you will not get the same quality alignment RF curve from a video head drum on a digital scope/PC USB scope compared to an analog scope?

Great! Another one! I like those.

Sorry don't know where to look. It will be full of surface mount caps, thats the place to start.

Lots of reasons it might not be opening and many are not repairable. Power supply, capacitors, mechanical problems, fuse, switches.
