Why doesn’t she run for speaker
The House rules need to not give one single Congressperson that much power. She's just one of 435. She should be a nobody.
Let's get the aid to our friends and allies . According to one maga politician she said if Marg moves to vacate than a couple of moderates will leave congress. That will flip congress to the democrats. If that is true I don't think she will do it. But she is stupid so let's see what happens.

Im no fan of Mike Johnson, but if he's willing to pass legislation, that is good for the country, then we need to move forward. Bipartisanship isnt a bad word. It's the way our government works. Hmmm, to me Johnson seems rationale (although, the born-again Christian ideology gives me pause). Jimmy Carter was through and through a devout Christian and a good person...hoping that Perhaps Johnson would act in the interest of All Americans. Voting for any politician is a gamble - look at Biden and the burden he is saddling U.S. taxpayers with for his open-border policy - look at Trump who very likely gave away U.S. government secrets to his "buddy" Kim Jon Ung and who knows what other entities or celebrities he gave that info to to impress them with "his power." Not to mention that he allowed the Saudis to make an absolute fool of him as they egged him on to perform their sword dance.

Until that moment comes when the Dems can gain the leadership, they should indeed work to keep Johnson as Speaker. That doesn't mean help him pass every bill he puts on the floor. But he does appear willing to buck the anti-democratic, pro-Putin wing of his party. So yes, it is the job of the Dems to vote in a fashion that gives America a functioning government.

I heard a democratic congressman say it isn't their job to keep Johnson as speaker. Meaning they will vote for Hakeem every time.
Johnson was a key player in the attempt to overthrow the results of the 2020 election. Dems need to work with him to get the Ukraine aid deal (which should've been done MONTHS ago!!!). After that they can drop him back in the GQP hyena pit and watch with a satisfied smile while they tear each other to pieces.
Whatever the Dems do, they should not help Johnson keep the gavel. Insurrectionists like him should not be allowed to be this close to the presidency.

Exactly. The Dems are already a pretty loose coalition. The GOP is severely divided.
We’ll get more parties in the future. We have to make some grassroots changes first like neutering the Electoral College (National Popular Vote Interstate Compact), and ranked choice voting.
Meanwhile, it would be extremely good for folks to see how coalition governance works for us. No one alive has ever seen governance outside the two-party monopoly.

When they win, it's because the american people like their policies and it's clearly a mandate to continue to pull the Overton window further to the right and campaign on more extreme measures then before because that's clearly what the people want while purging/marginalizing members of the party who don't want to support this.
When they lose, Clearly they weren't extreme enough; they need to push harder to get those hearts and minds and thus win the next election.

@@nicolasolton I am - 18 Republicans are NOT running for re-election. As such there is NOTHING the MAGA crowd can do to them. Among those 18 are several who might cross over Debbie Lesko, Kay Granger, Cathy McMorris Rodgers, Brad Wenstrup, and Greg Pence. All of them voted Against vacating the Speakership. All of them are old 1990s Conservatives who are retiring because of the MAGA crowd, and All them are old-fashion good government types. Since they are walking out the door, they just MIGHT want to kick the MAGA crowd where it hurts one last time.

Mike Johnson should take the same action on the border bill. Then he can say he did something vs. MTG being a total waste.
Democratic leaders should offer to vote for and save Johnson if he agrees to put the border bill up for a vote.

It’s a disgrace that it took so long for him to do the right thing and bring the vote.
It wouldn't be a GOP bill unless someone was getting impeached or removed or pay reduced to a dollar. It's the only legislation they're primarily interested in.
Time to be real. Regardless of what anyone thinks, Johnson is the key to getting the People's work done. Moving forward, Congress must continue to act in consensus until the end of the congressional session; at which time he will be replaced by Leader Jeffries. Everything between now and then is about holding your nose and getting work done!
Johnson refuses to allow a vote on the bipartisan border deal.
Until he resolves that issue, his House is only on the verge of doing the absolute bare minimum.

The current minority right wing rule took 40+ years to craft. It’s going to take years to peel that onion. It’s frustrating, but the work and mental/emotional effort will be more than worth it.
They’ll come around. The Big Tent is held up by our mutual faith in the rule of law and the American people.

I don't like Johnson. However I believe that Democrats should do the right thing and stop MAGA Republicans from ousting Johnson as speaker because he has done the right thing.
I agree especially if they can get something out of it. These bills need to be passed, but don't save his neck unless there is something in it for them.
He has done the bare minimum, all while disingenuously blaming Dems for his party’s failures. He deserves no help from Dems. Especially when we have a very real chance of taking the Speakership for ourselves. We could get so much more done with the ability to set the House agenda.
@@mattleathen445 I agree, but even if Jeffries got the gavel, wouldn't it be the same issue? Dems wouldn't have enough members to move legislation either. They would need a few Republicans to vote with them and no way any Republicans are gonna cross the aisle. Dems would however be able to bring more bills to the floor to vote on, but they would still need some bipartisanship to get anything done.

Leverage people; If the time comes on voting to oust Johnson, Democrats should insist that Johnson publicly state that Joe Biden legitimately won the election. It would be very weak of Dems to save an election denier who is now Speaker. Also think of the up coming general election, what role will Johnson play should trump lose in November?
