Such amazing, informative and inspiring videos Kalem. I’m 69 years young and getting stronger everyday to care for our 8 acre farm on the big island. Your food forest is so diverse and lush. Mahalos and blessings. 😎🌴🌿🌺💐🥭🥝🥥
I’ve been watching you for almost 3 years and because of you I've started growing all sorts of weird stuff, clementines, dragon fruit, mangos, oak trees, kiwis, apples, grapes, you name it. You’ve made a big impact on my life, every video i look forward too keep up the great work and keep on making amazing videos thank you. :)
So cool to see your food forest developing! I always love to see what you're growing. I followed your directions / advice for stratifying peach seeds and have my fingers crossed the seeds will survive the winter (it's a bit borderline for peaches here). A fun experiment. Your place looks gorgeous!
Hi Kalem, every time I see your garden it makes me think of the Garden of Eden from the Bible. It is amazing to see all of the unusual fruits that you can grow there. The cut Celery in all the different colors looked like a real work of art. Surprised the bugs don't eat the celery but it looks really fresh and beautiful. The Pink or Red Pineapple sounds very interesting and I'm sure they taste awesome being home grown. The plant that looked like Artichokes with the Purple flowers seemed to really flourish well in the environment in New Zealand. Best wishes as you enter the Summer season down in New Zealand.
Love the idea of thorning up the trunks of trees to stop the possums... we get hammered in the sounds, even with a fort Knox fence..I might just try that with good old blackberry or bush lawyer.
New subscriber here. I was looking for a video on the ice cream bean and caught a video of yours from 12 years ago. You seemed like such a sincere young person with a genuine appreciation for nature that I was curious if you had retained your essence 12 years later. You certainly have and what a wonderful food forest you have created that supports you and the environment. Thanks for sharing these amazing tours and information with us. I hope you stay blessed.
So beautiful! I just discovered your page while searching for growing peaches from seed and I can already tel I will be binge-watching your channel! Wonderful content and I love the island design with grass walkways of your food forest ❤
Hey Kalem, so nice to hear from you! Your forest looks better than ever, you should be very proud ❤ Looking forward to more videos from you next year🤞🙏
Your garden is so incredible. I live in a condo in New Jersey in the USA and I’m allowed to have three pots and they can’t be bigger than 2 foot across and 2 foot high but the flowers in them early the herbs can be big but I have to contain them. So seeing your garden, just makes me want to go move somewhere where there’s space and a little bit of freedom. If you can’t tell, I really do like gardening shows. I look forward to your next video and I hope you’ve had a wonderful holiday season. Kathy.
Kia ora! Thank you so much for sharing your amazing knowledge! It is me and my husband’s dream to move to NZ and start our own food forest & I have taken SO much inspiration from your channel. It’s so important for us coming from the USA to stay away from capitalism and what that does (and has done) to our soil and beautiful Mother Earth. I hope one day when we make it there that we can meet to sponge up some of your knowledge to start our own food forest! 😊
Wow i remember when you moved there. Everything has grown so fast. All the bees in my area swarmed off several weeks ago. I'm having to hand pollinate everything. Not a single bee on my lavenders, flowers or escallonias. My baby plum and blackboy peach are loaded this season. The sultan plums are ripening early. Well done with your stunning gardens.
You can make a tea with comfrey by steeping the leaves in a bucket of water, use a brick to weigh the leaves down. Takes 4-6 weeks but then you'll have a tea that can be watered down and used for indoor or outdoor plants. The leaves can still be used in the garden and will break up faster as the water already started the process.
A corner of heaven right there! Beautiful. I noticed a patch of nasturtiums there, not only are the seeds for capers, the leaves make an excellent alternative to vine leaves for the stuffed Greek snack dolmades.
We're just getting started on our food forest. We have enough land that, ideally, we'd be able to grow enough food for our whole family. Just a few months in now!
So cool that you had the chance to plant Uvaia… it’s quite productive and you can make delicious juice, ice-cream, jellies, jams and marmalades out of it… it’s wonderful!!!
So nice to see your forest grow every year! You might be interested in trying to turn your red sichuan pepper into a powder, that you can then use as pepper all year long! You can wait for the fruits to dry naturally on the tree and grind them with a coffee grinder for example (you can leave the seeds if you like, but I like to remove them). But you can also pick the fruits while they are green, dry them in your dehydrator or in the sun (same for the seeds, as you like), grind them, and voilà, a delicious pepper you can use with any dish! It is surprising how different the green and red versions differ in taste, so I would recommend you try both! I do about half and half every year, it is so good.
I love watching your videos! Thanks for putting them together. Love seeing the diversity you’re able to grow there and seeing just how different everything compared to my area here in the states. Hang in there brother!
Just wonderful! I have been hanging out for a tour of your food forest for ages. My 10 acres in Nth Canterbury is very bare and you have just given me LOADS of ideas, thanks Kalem. 👍🥰
Which part of nth Canterbury are you in? I've got ten acres here too...Loburn. Also put in a food forest, a bit less troppo than this one but it's doing well.
@@killjoyredux8361 We are in Cust, food forest still mostly in planning phase, budget constraints (ans over thinking) dictate slow implementation but it's on it's way :)
Wonderful to see this tour of you garden, and that your doing well. Cheers from Idaho. Be careful with kale, it will concentrate any heavy metals in the soil. Kale also has a lot of oxalic acid, which contributes to kidney stones.
Gardens come along way from a bare paddock good job .can't wait till our gardens are planted and established.youve given us many ideas over the years.thanks
Loved the quick time lapse of the property change over the years at the start of the video. Great to see so much greenery as we head into winter where I live. Thanks for sharing and Happy New Year.
Kia ora. It may be worthwhile putting in a small pond or ponds with large rocks around the edges for capturing heat in Winter and cooling the block in Summer; also as a bed for aquatic plants like water lilies (there are fragrant water lilies); you can also try planting some NZ natives like Pukatea and other swamp dwellers like Rimu and Kahikatea just next to the ponds. The ponds should attract frogs and birds. A grape vine like Lakemont Seedless trellised next to the house will provide shade in Summer and let sun through in Winter and its green grapes are delicious. Kia kaha e te paruauru.
Love seeing what you have grown. I wish I had as much luck with my seed plantings. Have you thought about trying these: The Jersey cabbage (Brassica oleracea longata) is a variety of cabbage native to the Channel Islands that grows to a great height and was formerly commonly used there as livestock fodder and for making walking sticks. It is also known as Jersey kale or cow cabbage,[1] and by a variety of local names including giant cabbage,[1] long jacks, tree cabbage and the French chour and chou à vacque. We use the leaves to make caldo verde soup in Portugal.
I'm so glad to see that you've put up another video and see the update on the native forest plantings. Are you going to make a video featuring the animals sometime in the future? Everything looks so healthy and happy. Hopefully, the possum will find somewhere else to forage. Thanks for all of your hard work. It is appreciated.
Your food forest is looking lush! Thanks for talking about the importance of mental health, I struggle with anxiety/depression and have found therapy really helpful. Gardening even in a tiny section is such a great way to get out of my head and connect with nature. Was wondering if Dock plants have the same effect as Comfy? Happy New Year and thanks for your cool uploads. Keep shining 🍒😁
Wow, I absolutely love your food forest Kalem! It's incredible how much everything has grown in such a short space of time! Very inspirational! I hope one day I can replicate something similar 🤞
HI Kalem, your food forest is looking sooo lush, it really inspires us, we are in the south island so I think our conditions are cooler than yours, but just seeing what you have been doing makes us want to do more, especially more fruit trees, we do have a small patch that we chop and drop on and it is doing OK, thanks for making great content, love the cat 🥰big licks from Colin the dog
Oak leaf papaya (Carica or Vasconcella quercifolia) it's native from a huge range from my country, Argentina. It's a wonderful plant to grow, around here is used to make jelly and candy
Amazing end of year update. It's great to see the food forest and the native plants do so well. It's crazy how diverse the food forest is, there's so many different types of plants from all over the place, even some tropical ones such as the banana.
I also am recommending a herb called Texas Tarragon to all my gardening friends - used by Incas - tastes just like French Tarragon, but also has a beautiful yellow flower - easy to propagate.
Thank you so much for your videos. You inspired me to start gardening with your "grow from seeds videos". I love what you've done with your garden and hope to have my own just like yours one day!
Your food forest turned out wonderfully dude. I really appreciate your videos and all the variety of plants you grow. I have learned a lot about plants that I never knew about prior to watching your videos. Also, my kids love your videos too. Keep up the good work! 🎉
Your food forest is so prolific after a short time, wonderful fertility, interesting diversity packed in there, and healthy looking plants. Pity about the possums, they are a real downer, cheeky so and so's ! Awesome to see ther results of your mahi , thanks for sharing. I have a babaco in my glasshouse in Greymouth which flowered for the first time this year, unfortunately i think most of the flowers have fallen off, didnt know it might need a pollinator
Your garden is so beautiful and your cat is so cute. Thanks for sharing and explaining why particular plants are planted in specific areas. My dream is to have a food forest like yours. :) Thanks for the inspiration.
well done Kalem your food forest is looking amazing! i love the idea of little islands with paths between something im trying doing myself. will have to plant more herbs around the trees i have in i think!. thanks mate and all the best for next year!👍👍
Your garden looks absolutely beautiful and the plants grow with such vigor! Also really cool to see how many subtropical plants you're able to grow. I'm especially surprised about your banana and pineapple plants faring so well! Cheers
wow amazing thanks for taking us on that journey and letting us witness this amazing transformation of your property. You are a great inspiration! Thanks to you I got myself a nice finger lime tree which bloomed for the first time this year. Unfortunately the temperatures here in Germany don’t allow me to grow such exotic plants outside but your channel is also a great inspiration for my vegetable garden. Thanks! 😊❤️ Watching your videos feels like a relaxing day on holiday!
Your garden is maturing beautifully. I love your idea of securing the thorns to the trunks of your fruit trees. I use my bougainvillea cuttings in my large pots to discourage the stray cats from using them as a litter box. And thanks for continuing to remind us to take care of ourselves. Cheers and a happy new year when it comes. Wishing you more abundance in the years to come. 🌿🌸🦋

Hi I just asking do you have any finger lime can you send me some seeds I will send you money
@@yilengyang3325 Seeds would be useless. You need a scion for grafting.
I've watched your old coconut sprouting video from years ago. Do you still got that tree?
I just clicked the video and it ended in no time.. 😮
Such amazing, informative and inspiring videos Kalem. I’m 69 years young and getting stronger everyday to care for our 8 acre farm on the big island. Your food forest is so diverse and lush. Mahalos and blessings. 😎🌴🌿🌺💐🥭🥝🥥

Your 'blue ribbon ' gardens are like seeing The Garden of Eden! I am so impressed!! You've done a magnificent thing!! Thank you so much for sharing!
Would love another food forest video (full pong tour) 🙏🏼
Me too
What a great farm and garden!❤
Just stunning. Amazed at what you produce and love your animals!

You Inspire Me!❤😊
Rest assured, you’re appreciated by many. Wow, so much growth
You live in a paradise, mate! I'm so jealous! Greetings from Berlin. 😊
Looks great, its amazing how fast you can transform a piece of land. Eight years and 250 fruit trees has transformed my block.
Beautiful garden and adorable cat ❤
Yeah bro gardening is soooo good for the mental health! Love gardening and seeing what works and what doesnt!
I can't believe how many things that you grow that I have never heard of. God has really made such an amazing diverse world.

The cat in the video for me is the win! ❤ well done on your garden!
You are so fortunate to have such a nice space of land to grow your wonderful garden and raise your sheep.
