Dump truck drivers are the worst drivers out there
Only the ones that carry the stench of Brownpton
Name and shame this people , why the secrecy ????
Why name? They just go by one of their many other names.
In BC we took strong steps to end this. All trucks must have warning devices and personal accountability is now enforced. One trucking company with 6 bridge strikes was shut down and being sued for the costs. We haven't had one since after an epidemic of bridge strikes around metro Vancouver.

You don't get taught. They hand you the keys and you are on your own. I never was taught when I drove truck.

ontario truck driving schools are owned and taught by foreigners more accustomed to driving a camel. Can't believe the amount of stupid that comes out of those schools, especially since ontario started making the training mandatory

This happens way too often. Still blows my mind that you can be that oblivious to your box being up.
It's because they disable the warning buzzer that tells them the box is up!
A lot of these workers are under the influence most of the day while working. Usually booze. Road rage happens because of it also. You would be shocked to know how many people carry a buzz all day long. Its getting easier to spot morning drinkers also lol

While we have all kind of warning lights and beeps in our car for warning us (seat belt warning, door open, lane departure, blind spot vehicle etc.) why can't MOT can ask a mandatory warning light and beep in case of bin up in tri axles trucks?
drivers would turn them off anyway...many of them get paid to sit on their asses and wait at sites for hours at a time. They'll disbale the alarm so they can drink in peace while they wait.

Diversity with a driver license
Yeah, cuz white truckers always follow precautions and never start throwing back beers as soon as they hit the road. I've seen plenty of white truckers ride with raised bins and much worse. This is not diversity, it's carelessness. Take your bigotry elsewhere.
I drove dump truck some time ago , for the ones that drove a dump truck might know this .. the dump trucks have a system called p.t.o , you have to engage ( turn on ) p.t.o in order the bin to go up or down .. i suspect I’m not sure but , probably the driver forgot to turn off the p.t.o the bin was maybe down when start driving but the p.t.o little stick might shown it was off off position ,but the bin slowly was going up.. that’s why he probably hit the bridge ! Otherwise he’d hit the cables in the street before even merging in the highway..
Flying carpets to my knowledge don’t have a complicated PTO or large side mirrors, dump trucks however are a bit more challenging to operate safely.
There are vehicles with automatic door locks over a certain speed... and yet they cannot engineering a governing device to prevent dump trucks from moving at certain speed with their box up?
How many injuries and lawsuits will it require before this is regulated as standard equipment?
Because sometimes you have to drive forward to do a slow dump from gravel onto driveways but you shouldn't be allowed to go over 10 km per hour...
So, zero qualifications to drive a dump truck? 🥴
There is but giving diversity a license isn't a good idea
Satisfying the requirements to drive a truck doesn't always mean complete proficiency if the standards aren't high to begin with. For example at my former job the office first aide kit was St John Ambulance Approved I opened it up and it was just full of band aids, antibactrial wipes, and ointment. If there was a real emergency that first aid kit is useless. The higher the standards, the higher you can expect proficiency.

You must live in Brampton, not shower or bathe, and you must have zero qualifications or safety initiatives.
They are told to say they had a license in the old country but lost it on the boat trip.
They better test this guy's BAC right away! They missed the boat on the drunky that did the same thing on the skyway.
These dump truck drivers need to be dope tested , rookie drivers , no experience , trucking companies should be charged for damages

In British Columbia they now revoke the
Cartage License of company’s found negligent of damaging infrastructure. It’s about time Ontario follows suit. These incidents are happening far too frequently, costing a lot of time and money.
Obviously if the drivers & the company’s lost the ability to do business in Ontario, they might take great care and think twice, three times, about safety being a priority.

This countries standards for workers and qualified people is going downhill. Never heard of these types of accidents being so frequent back in the day.

I had to get in front of a dump truck on Queen St. in Brampton last summer and signal to them that their bed was in the up position.
I don't know what the heck is happening with the industry anymore.

Pretty well all cars now have a dash light that lets the driver know if a door is not closed securely.
Amazing that dump trucks do not have something similar to let the driver know that the bin is in the "up" position!
😂if they used there mirrors they would see it up and they have a huge back window there's no reason for this to happen
This happens far too often. With today's technologies, it would be so easy to set up magnets to a light in the cab indicating the box is up.
We had it on a sign truck where some features weren't available if the magnets didn't seperate or make contact.
There's no reason for that to always be happening.

Of all the drivers that drove in front of, beside, or behind the dump truck. Why doesn't anyone ever just get in front of them and brake to gradually slow and stop.
No one seems to ever try to warn the driver, just stand back and watch.
I get that it's the drivers responsibility to make sure the box is down, but we all do mistakes and forget things.

Just had the 401 shut down for 12 or 13 hours. Jackknifed tractor trailer, driver impaired.
Dump truck box. Not a bin.. TV people and that cop should know what words to use.
OPP, a suggestion, engage the relevant agencies to determine if the driver has any ties to Hamas.
Any dump truck driver riding with the bin up should be fired, revoked for life and jailed. Trucks should have a limiter to not be allowed to go more than 5km/h with the bin up. This is not diversity, it's carelessness. I've seen many non-immigrant Canadian truckers do this too.

Every driver that was held up due to a preventable accident should be able to file an independent law suit against the driver and the company. If the companies that hire inexperienced operators function on the " time is money " theory, then the people having to wait and waste gas should operate similarly. $250 @ how many people delayed? This could have been avoided, if the other drivers could have warn the driver of the dump truck, somehow ahead of time. Unless if they pulled out their cellphones to video tape the incident.. Soon they will be a video going viral. A dump truck hit a bridge..

Honestly, it's 2024. There should have been a safety system developed and required by this point in time by our government. This isn't new and it effects Public Safety. Maybe if all the government money wasn't going to put beer in the corner store? What kind of a drunk does that? One that had a bottle under his desk during a CNN interview maybe?
