Dreamcast was a great console, and it was way ahead of its time. Wish they could've continued the console because they had good games, and sometimes better ports beside having weird controller. But I did like that they have vmu, especially if you were playing capcom games like resident evil 2 - 3 and code Veronica and dino crisis to check your health and ammo.
I got Dreamcast on 9/9/99 and its still my favorite console. You have no idea how hard it was to pick between Soul Calibur and DoA2 when they came out haha
Whenever someone ask me what my favorite console is I invariably say "Dreamcast". Best variety of games, best arcade ports, best Star Wars Episode I Games (a miracle in itself!), and best sports games. The Dreamcast was a short lived but long innovating slice of heaven.
Grandia 2's battle system is so freakin fun. Juggling that action bar is sooo satisfying. No nostalgia goggles necessary. Grandia 2 is an incredible experience.
@@mRibbons 80s Disney got a similar realization... their last Mickey, Donald and Goofy cartoons were a couple decades old and reediting all their movies in VHS was very feasible.
Not me still wishing I had bought a Dreamcast when they came out. I got to play quite a bit, but I'll always regret not getting one in 1999 because I really wanted to lol
Let's go away, Mark! Two games that aged well and are often overlooked are Sega Bass Fishing and Sega Bads Fishing 2. It still looks great and when you add the controller vibration reeling in fish is a lot of fun.
El Dorado Gate has some of the most beautiful visuals I've ever seen in a video game. It burns me that RPGs with visuals like that aren't being made simply because they're deemed 'not economically viable.'
Still have great memories running around (largely cluelessly) in Shenmue and my first MMO experience with Phantasy Star Online. And finally, it spawned my love for the band Sublime (you know the game). Thanks for the great video, guys!
It's ok for Shenmue fans to admit it's aged poorly. Quake 3 Arena (93/8.5 Metacritic) is still superb (although you'll need the DC Mouse and Keyboard to get the most out of it). @5:35 "End Starters isn't real surely?🤔
I was amazed by how much customization Id allowed for the Dreamcast version of Quake 3. If anyone has a problem playing it, just change the sensitivity or change around the buttons. Literally like a PC game made for console. Just wish it did well enough for them to justify a Q3F release, as a sequel.
End starters is the answer, but it also is technically a thing in any competitive game. It is triggered when you cause a player to lose. Their end has started.
I'll admit, I was a PS2 kid while growing up, but I recently picked up the Dreamcast and it really blew my mind. The games just seem generally better optimized compared to the other consoles in the generation imo, and the VMU was a really interesting idea. Let's go away, Mark!
Crazy how much better optimized Dreamcast games were. All the ports to PS2 was such messes. Shame Dreamcast library didn't continue to get the support that Sony did
Let's go away, mark Dreamcast controller was too crazy for my little boy brain to work with. I see Rez on this list and it reminds me of a game that came out like a decade ago. Maybe Children of Eden? I know it had a song from Genki Rockets in it. Fun game. I wonder if they're connected.
Soul Calibur IS better than arcade. As someone who first experienced it on the Dreamcast, when I first played the arcade game, I was frankly shocked at how low poly the models were for arcade. Like, three fingers and a thumb? No thank you, I'll quite happily take the version where Namco redid the models and decided they could easily add more to the rest of the game.
I’ve seen and have all from 1980-Now I have every console and tons of games I’m happy the younger generations are realizing how amazing the Turbo Grafx/PC Engine Neo Geo/CD Saturn and Dreamcast are it’s about time people but I do love the SNES PS1 and PS2 also
0/10 for not including Dynamite Cop/Dekka on this list. That game is just pure dumb fun and hilarious too. Sucks it hasn't been ported to both current consoles and pc.
16:04 Nah, you had it right the first time sir haha great content as always.... Wales, haha, have you ever heard of something so ridiculous... also, who is this Mark
I remember before the Japanese launch I was on college. A friend told me the dreamcast was water cooled and I was amazed . I believed him...crazy rumour. Water and electricity do not mix. Doh.
DAAAAAAAAAAAYTONAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA theme always made me think of The Hurricanes opening theme for some reason. The dreamcast was sadly a console I never got to own, but my friend had one & we'd play Jimmy Whites Cueball and House of the Dead 2 almost every weekend, if we weren't sinking hours into Baldur's Gate at mine. Lets go away, Mark!
Let’s go away, Mark! Love the Dreamcast! They’re still making games for it to this day AND I love the fact that you can sail the high seas on it as well, if you know what I mean, yar harr harrr! 🏴☠️Maybe you should make an episode on new Dreamcast games that may be good or new Dreamcast games that are bad?? 😀👍
@@CulturedVultures Thats fair. MvC2's new characters like Jill, Amingo, and Ruby Heart are pretty great. I just think of 'aged' as an artistic statement
Are they any "aged beautifully" videos we haven't done yet? Let us know

Yeah, love the VMU! Could do a fun little video on just that bad boy. And thank you, sir!
If only the Dreamcast had a DVD player 😢

Snk's last blade 2 still is a gorgeous game for the DC

Please, Sega, take advantage of the moment... we need more retro.
With the wealth of IPs Sega has, its absolute madness how they devote most of their time and resources on new Sonic and Yakuza games.

That's fine as long as you didn't commit the cardinal sin of getting a PS2 instead.

Child of Eden! Tetsuya Mizuguchi worked on both
@CulturedVultures I'm gonna have to find a way to play both of those, by any means necessary.
Still own every game listed here, what a wonderful time (and console) it was... 😎
We need to hear your Nightmare main story, since now it seems personal.

Zis was a good time anno 1999 up to date!
I'm not having anyone say skies of arcadia is overlooked 😂😂😂 its one of the most talked about rpgs on the bloody internet
overlooked in the sense that it sold extremely little relative to other RPGs of the time, cos it did!
FFX/X2 sales = 21 million
Arcadia sales =
Weirdest place I ever bought a video game? My Aunt bought me Mickey Mouse Escapade when I broke my arm as a kid from our local drug store.
Side note, ProJared first played Super Mario Bris 3 when his mom rented it from a Shell gas station.
