Maybe let it run a bit longer before stopping so that you can hear some continuity.
There is no comparison between Lara and Dimash. They are very different artists.
You are too focussed on the notes and how they are sung. Try listening to the actual story she is telling. It makes the whole thing more enjoyable

"As good as Dimash?" Really? She has a career as a singer and songwriter of 30+years, sold more than 20 millions records worldwide, studied singing, piano and composition for 10 years at Brussel Conservatory, had a number one on Billboard for 58 weeks, worked with John Williams, David Foster, Walter Afanasieff, Dave Stewart; her songs were covered by Barbra Streisand, Shirley Bassey, Josh Groban, Floor Jansen etc, trainees vocally all of her career-every day- for at least 1h, still maintain her tone and reaching those big notes and you reduce her to Dimash? He was copying her style but they are very different- he wants to show off his vocals, she's respecting the message of her song. She trained so hard just to be able to let her voice to convey the emotions. Btw- she was/is so good that Celine Dion's husband sabotaged her career on US.

Most all of us have heard Lara sing this song (and all our other favorites she sings) a thousand times. We are here (or should be) because we LOVE watching people who are professional and/or trained singers, react to Lara, Dimash and others, and see their jaws drop, and then ask: "Why haven't I heard of this person before now" I still ask how Lara, who is arguably a more classic beauty, and more versatile singer then Celine, didn't become the superstar Celine became. Maybe being married to her manager was the key!

The music of Broken Vow was co-composed by Walter Afanassiev and Lara Fabian.
Walter Afanassiev, an american/brazilian from russian descent, is a legendary composer and producer (he co-composed some of the greatest initial hits of Mariah Carey such as All I Want for Christmas is You or Hero and was the producer of the Titanic soundtrack that increased Celine Dion WW fame). He is produced a song for Dimash among others.
When this song was composed, Walter and Lara were engaged, they were living in San Francisco’s bay area, but apparently he cheated and she decided to break up. When she took this decision, that she knew would dramatically change both her personal and professional destiny, she wrote these incredible lyrics.
Lara has said this is her preferred english song from all the songs she wrote in this language (there are many, and some are pure jewels).
One reason is also because this song has then been covered by the greatests:
    - Barbra Streisand (she performed it in concerts from one of her tour but never recorded it),
    - Josh Groban (his cover made this song famous in US, she is her friend and role model and he made several duets with her),
    - Linda Eder,
    - Cakra Khan,
    - Gigi de Lana,
    - Regine Velasquez,
    - Almira (from 4th Impact),
    - Katrina Velarde,
    - Julie Anne San Jose,
    - Sarah Geronimo,
    - Morissette Amon,
    - Petra Berger,
    - Harrison Craig,
    - Rimar,
    - Jackie Evancho,
    - …
For Jackie Evancho, and at the request of Jackie's parents who found the original lyrics were not a good fit for a young girl, Lara rewrote Broken Vow in french as "Imaginer" with a complete different meaning.
But the original from Lara remains the absolute reference

This song was the finally of her PBS Televised concert from Montreal "From Lara with Love". Lara does write beautiful lyrics. Every song from this concert is spectacular with songs sung in French, Italian, Spanish and of course English. Lara was destined to become the next "Diva"; unfortunately due to circumstances related to her current record label and objection of the management team of the labels existing "Diva" the broadcast was not air in primetime but after midnight! (Eric Sicard can correct this statement if incorrect). Lara is a huge fan of Barbra Streisand and visa versa here is a video of their first encounter: ua-cam.com/video/xDPY1Wm8Rn4/v-deo.html Lara has been mentioned in the same breath as Whitney, Mariah & Celine. Here's a video entitled THE VOCAL TRINITY - THE 4TH VOICE - LARA FABIAN ua-cam.com/video/TyB6vXDdZBY/v-deo.html

Sigh. Some of y'all are killing me with the hate. This is very clearly a channel about deep vocal analysis and that's exactly what Erika did. And as far as I'm concerned, it was all relevant to Lara and very positive. If you want to navel-gaze at someone sitting there watching a video you've already seen a hundred times and then say "Wow that was great, I loved it, please like and subscribe, bye!", there are literally dozens of those out there. You are all acting in the most un-Lara-like manner possible and you're embarrassing yourselves. Lara is one of the most generous, kind, gracious, and humble singers (and humans) in the world. Some of the vitriol in this comment section is so unbecoming of her fans.
Erika, you did a great job. I enjoyed your commentary and your humor and discovered many little details about Lara's performance I hadn't known before. Thank you! As for being Dimash's idol, yes, she is. Apparently he listened to her as a child and was inspired by her passion and technique. But let's be clear, if you listen to her entire career and portfolio of more than 30 years, he's nowhere near her level yet. I'm pretty sure he would admit the same.
I hope to see more analysis from you regarding Lara as she has many wonderful performances to dig into. To all who left respectful and positive comments or none at all (no matter how you felt), my rant wasn't directed at you.

  • @gregoryjamessnayer7271
    @gregoryjamessnayer7271 3 місяці тому

    Hi, Erika.
I appreciate that you reacted to this song by Lara. I respect especially your analysis on her voice. However, it is crucial for any vocal Coach to make the connection between the execution or delivery of a song and it's lyrics. Like in stories and poems, there are phrases, pauses, moments of silence, etc. Then is something called style.
Yes, some songs may require styles, but in this song there is nothing that Lara does here that can or should be pinned to "stylistic". It's her interpretation of the lyrics (what the story is about) that gives direction to what is required both vocally and physically. One can clearly see how her body language and facial expressions change in line with the discourse of the text/lyrics.
It takes tactic, skill and experience to master all in any one performance.
Dimash's vocal approach and state performances all goes back to her influence. She has been his inspiration from more or less the start of his career.
If only you had taken into account the lyrics, you would immediately have noticed also the emotional journey throughout the song. So, there are occasions when one should rather follow the lyrics at least to a point where the story starts making sense or listen to the song in it's entirity before analyzing or commenting.
Again, I thank you for your reaction - your comments and especially your analysis.

Loved the reaction. You talked about how she blends her registers so well and one thing I've always thought about her is that she has such a great ability of keeping the same quality, the resonance ring in her entire range, I mean, she can manipulate her tone but the quality is very consistent and everything sounds so fluid and perfectly connected. Lara is one of my favorite singers in the world, she is really amazing and her voice is so well preserved to this day. I love her performance of Je Suis Malade from 2003 where she sings without a microphone, she is soo theatrical and sings wich such emotion.

@@potens1 Lara Fabian _'is fluent in _*_4_*_ languages'_ ..with the ''4th" , Spanish , barely qualifying as it can be shaky at times owing to the fact it was the only one of the lot that she hadn't the advantage of forming an early familial bond with. The influence of her Italian mother , French-speaking father, native English-speaking American grandfather

ERICA TORRES WHO?! Hey, Erica, FYI Lara is the diva here not you so stop acting like one and stealing her limelight! Nearly half an hour of struggling through this self-obsessed, self-professed vocal "analyst/expert" doing more singing than Lara and loving the sound of her own voice! WTF! Give us all a break Erica! I don't want or need a singing lesson from you so please don't behave like this is "SINGING 101!"

What limelight? She is recording a video in her home, she is not on stage with with her?
Are you slow? Are you a simpleton Mark? Mark Keller 1477? Is that the year you was born? Perhaps never heard of a reaction video, let alone an analysis video. Or maybe you’re just that old your brain can’t handle the concept.
      Get a life.
