This was a great video! Thank you! So excited to get my little doohickeys and make the pulley system. I wrestled with my awning the one time I ever tried, and I never messed with it again because I had to do it alone.
Excellent video! I plan on adding an Awning like your on our new Casita Trailer in a few weeks, I'll use your technique! BTW, I opted for the "Old style Awning" for several reasons. IMO, they are less problematic, you don't have to watch them every minute of the day if thew wind pick up. They are less expensive and don't increase Wind Resistance that reduces MPG! Lastly. you can select a custom color, which in our case is goin g to be Dark Blue.
Great thanks helped out a lot. I refuse to buy a whole new awning set up for my travel trailer. Trying to figure out how to attach the awning rope to a tarp.
I have a Marty's Awning as well, absolutely the best made awnings you can find, this works great, excellent video, easier to do it this way than even having another person to help. wow!
Thanks for all the great tips. Just bought a 1982 Road Ranger by KIT, 19' travel trailer in amazing original condition and had no idea where to find or how to instal an awning in the c rail. Now l know l can order from Marti's and install myself.
Don, I wanted to say, Thank You! We viewed your video on the NSSO Resources page and your method was very successful for us! We have a '76 Scotty Hilander and I just sent my membership check a few weeks ago to join. Hope to meet up with you on one of the rallies or callouts to say thanks in person.
Thanks Don, this was very helpful. My new awning from Marti should be here any day. Could you possibly do one showing how to set up the poles and stakes? I could probably stumble my way through it. :) Sass
Just shared your video! My awning just slides right in as I push it but others do have trouble so I shared your system! Hope we meet again. I was at Spring Fling last year with my Mom.
Don, I love the video! I am a do-it-yourselfer as well. Unfortunately, I have a Lippert (Solera) power awning that needs to be replaced. I get that the concept is the same and am familiar with, and have several of the gator clips. I am going to head over to my trailer and see how I can apply the same idea. Will probably still take two men, but at least with this method, we wouldn't have to be moving ladders while sliding it on the rail. Thanks again. Bear
Hi Don! You did a great job demonstrating how to attach this awning to your rv. Question: What did you call the seam that you slid into the railing? It appeared to be thicker than the rest with a ridge or something. Does that come standard in a purchased awning? I would really like the name of your company you deal with to purchase the awning. Thank you so much! XX
Thanks Memmay. I'm not sure what the real name for it is, but it is a welting and yes it is pretty standard on a purchased awning. This happens to be a Marti awning. Her website is....www.martisawnings.com/ She does awesome work at a reasonable price.
I guess the company has changed the name of the product. It is now called Cinchtite Tarp Clip and can be found here on there website.... www.homaxproducts.com/SundriesOther?page=2 You can still probably find them at a big box store too.
I forgot to add that you can also install the Awning on either side of the trailer depending on the orientation to the sun. We may make two Awnings, one for either side to reduce heat inside the trailer.
Saw your video. Bought the kit. Just tested it. Worked a treat. You clever chap! Thank you so much.
Don!!..GREAT VIDEO! Such great advice and instruction! 👍👍
Great video Don! You can use a carabiner in place of the s hook. It won't slip out of the grommet. Great job!! Thanks

Wonderful video.
I have a Question. What do you do when a high wind comes up?
Do you take it down every time?
Used all of your tips. Worked great! Thanks!
You're welcome.

Very helpful tips here. I am a newbie to vintage camping, so this is valuable education for me. Btw, this is very MacGyver (the gadget you made). 😉
Just shared your video! My awning just slides right in as I push it but others do have trouble so I shared your system! Hope we meet again. I was at Spring Fling last year with my Mom.

On the rail.

Hi Don - Do you reckon I could get this system to work on a curved caravan awning rail? Thanks in hope!!!
Fleur Dawson Sure, don't see why not. Just make sure the c-rail is lubed well.
Nice content ! Thanx
