Ash, I immediately clicked the thumbs up button when you said that you're not buying crap from China!
Same!
Half of London is owned by China
There's good stuff from China too
He was showing off a hat made in China in one of his videos
I agree with your ‘buying British’ stance.
Personally, I'm also very happy to buy from Europe
Trickers must kept in business. I‘m happy to own pair that I bought personally in London and can highly recommend Trickers shoes. They fit perfectly.
Good to see another satisfied Barbour customer. I purchased a UK made Beaufort following early retirement and shifting the excess weight. The best wax jacket I have ever owned. Goes well with most outfits and superbly designed. Should outlive me!
Some of my 2024 purchases
Loake Pimlico chukka boot - amazing quality at a fair price.
Magee tweed blazer - first I’ve owned, it is possibly my favourite item of clothing I’ve owned.
Creed - Erolfa. Made the step into creed after finding this one for a good discount, and it is incredible. The best smelling fragrance I’ve ever owned.
Nice.. I have a Barbour. Tends to fray around the wrist area, after a time. I had Deer leather (dark brown) sewn over the sleeve ends to reinforce against wear. Best thing ever. Looks great too
I appreciate that barbour offers a refurbishment if the jacket starts to show too much wear.
@ - fantastic. At 12,000 mikes away ill be sure to make use of this
I just got a large gray dial Cartier Santos and a medium diamond bezel Cartier Santos for the wife on Christmas Day. Love the interchangeability of the straps. I agree this is a really comfortable watch to wear. Thank you for your review on this watch months ago. I never thought I would get this watch but I’m glad we did.
My purchase of Dents heritage gloves was nice. But my great deal on a trench coat in my size was an end of year thift store buy.
Ash. I know this is not clothing but it is 'chap'. I traded in my Royal Enfield classic 350 and bought an Interceptor. What a terrific gentlemans motorcycle. I feel like T E Lawrence when i am riding it. I know it is not a Brough but i simply love the bike.
Keep up the good work sir.
Since rediscovering your channel last month and binge watching it I've only bought a few items. I got a job lot of ties which included some silk ones for less than a tenner and a immaculate pre owned tweed jacket. Happy with that.
I agree with your point of having most of your shoes at a certain level and then a smattering of very high quality/price options just to test the waters so to speak. Most of my footwear is Crockett and Jones (all purchased second hand), although I have one pair of Edward Green, and two pairs of Alden (one in Cordovan) which I attained to test the quality level and I'm glad that I did! My favourite purchase this year was also an update (albeit secondhand) of my very old and beloved Barbour Border. My watch purchase was not quite to your horological standards, but was a Seiko Willard that I truly adore and wear every weekend. Great summation and I definitely concur with the point about considering not just quality and longevity of clothing, but also of provenance and sustainability. Thanks again Ash and happy holidays!
Great suggestions Ash, thx. My purchase of the year was a Barber Gilet. Brand new but from a charity shop. Smart but casual. Love it.
I find the idea of a luxury chore coat amusing. My father was a tradesman. He wore a denim chore coat during the cooler months. When I was young and working in the mining industry, I typically wore my brown duck canvas chore coat. These weren't cheap garments, but they were a far cry from luxury goods.
My wife gifted me two submariners from Outdoor Knitwear for Christmas. One in Ecru and one in Navy color. She had it shipped from the UK to the US. I was over the moon as I unwrapped these two great sweaters. They feel amazing and are of high quality. I will wear them at the beginning of the new year. It will be cold in the US Midwest.
By the way, I understand Alex that he, was not into the family look and refused to wear the same sweater as his parents. I was the same way with mine at that age. 😄
This year after a bit of a wait I picked up my Explorer 40mm after getting ‘the call’. Fantastic watch.
I also bought a Jumper ( A navy submariner) from the same company where you got yours. I was limited to White or Navy and wanted a Claret colour Submariner so tried another British Company Gloverall (Jumpers made in UK) who were slightly more expensive but the quality and softness of the wool was incredible and worth the extra price.
Stormy Kromer Rancher hat. Made in Ironwood Michigan USA. Unique design, superb quality, highly functional, and an excellent value.
Well, my favourite *purchase* of the year was a pair of special edition Sterling gloves with Harris Tweed detail.... And then a few days ago I opened a beautiful deerstalker hat *made of the same tweed* !!! A Christmas miracle, I am over the moon. Things are just things ofc... But I cannot deny the pleasure and gratitude I feel.
Merry Christmas everyone, and I wish you a happy new year.
Very nice!
This year, the items that exceeded my expectations were my Patagonia apparel. While manufactured in various countries (with the country of origin listed for each item on their website), these pieces are of exceptional quality and come with an ironclad guarantee. They’re perfect for the Canadian climate where I live. Another standout item is Canadian-made selvedge denim from Naked & Famous. 🍻
Going to get my Santos de Cartier on february 1 next year. I finally saved up enough. 🙂
Items I love in 2024. A Made to Measure Navy Sports jacked, half lined, using Huddersfield Fresco III lite cloth. A Made to measure light brown Herringbone Linen/Wool sports jacket, half lined using Abraham Moon fabric. Two custom made Bougue Shoes from Allen Edmond's - one in CF Stead Repello Suede with lug soles, and another in waterproof calfskin. A Tissot Visodate PowerMatic 80 watch.
I bought the &Sons Carver jacket for my 13 year-old son this Christmas. It’s a beautiful coat and fits him very well. He’s about 173cm / 68in in height and the Medium jacket was the perfect fit.
Favorite purchases of 2024: Brooks Bros used 100% wool black car coat, Sunspel Riveria polos, John Smedley navy sea island cotton polo, & Drake's olive Alpaca/wool knit polo.
Bought a Ridgeline Torrent jacket NZ as I kept seeing farmers wearing them in all weathers on TV. I have t say it’s fantastic and adds to my collection of Barbour and Aigle jackets I have had for years.
My favourite purchases:
Douglas Hayward Cashmere Overcoat
Aspinall of London Messenger bag
Seiko Presage Negroni Watch
Stetson Fedora
Penhaligons - The Dandy
I always enjoy your videos. I would love to see a video showcasing your fragrance collection. Maybe others would also……from Chicago…..
Great idea!
My great purchases this year included two Samuelsohn suits, one in navy and one in charcoal. These were discontinued, and that made them affordable. Another was an Oris Artelier Date. It was on closeout. Since my mother left me numerus gift cards before she passed, that was the last gift from my mother I will ever receive.
I purchased a Wooley Pulley a couple of months ago on your recommendation and absolutely love it. Thanks for the heads up! Happy and healthy new years wishes for 2025.
I did so also. My first wool sweater. It won't be my last.
Same. And the Barbour jacket as well
Where would we be without the wooley pulley! What a lifesaver. Seasons greetings to you as well :)
If you talking about the British Army Woolley Pulley, I can tell you a interesting story about this item.
Over decade ago, I noticed that in Israel their troops in the Winter months, wore the above item.
Chatting to Israeli citizens, I found out that the Israeli captured several thousand of these Woolley Pulleys during their excursion into Lebanon in the eighties.
Not only did they issue them to their own troops, but copied the design.
@ 👍
Very nice video. After settling into my new lifestyle, I did most of my wardrobe upgrades last year, but I still acquired a few things this year. One of my favorites was a basically brand new, surplus USMC Trench Coat for $35.
Good morning ash I purchased 4 pairs of meyer trousers not cheap but I find them very well made I also purchased a turnbull and asser umbrella which i love the best umbrella iv ever owned i also purchased a omega 1974 9ct 36mm dress watch and a new omega 300 automatic plus i found 2 crombie silk pocket squares my shoe collection also got bigger 28 pairs now mainly trickers and loake i fully agree with you on trickers they are the best shoes and boots I own i have a trickers stow in the lollipop colour .
I bought a Barbour Ashby not UK made but not made in an unfriendly state either. I love it. Quality still there and a nice fit. Bought a pair of Loakes Pegasus this year. Love them too. I get the UK made insistence but it's rare even with heritage brands see Dr Martens. As long as the quality remains and there are no sweatshop elements, I'm in. G
Happy new year to you Ash. Totally agree with quality items to be bought. I’ve recently acquired some Cordings cord trousers. Something I’ve wanted for years.
Also my best buy of the year, a Barbour international, almost a daily wear
I also purchased a Barbour jacket this year - the Sappor. It’s a military style and fully lined, so excellent for northern winters. Picked it up on a one day sale for 25% off. It’s my fourth Barbour and they are my go to jackets much of the year. Ironically the model I don’t have is the Beaufort.
Good morning Ash. Always a pleasure to hear your recommendations some of which I have partaken in. I have purchased a pair of Allen Edmonds shoes Brouge. I also have bought a new Panama strong hat. And a Brooks Brothers seersucker jacket on eBay. The sweaters you and your family have look very stylish and seem to be a very good price for what you get. I also have a blue wooly pully from my US. Coast guard aux. days. Cheers Ron
Dear Ash,
best purchase for me in 2024:
Peacoat from Armor Lux, France.
Jumper (The Diver) from North Sea Clothing, London.
Scent:
The Iron Duke from Beaufort, UK.
Thumbs up for not buying Crap from China!
I've had a good year with pre-owned clothing and shoes. Only last week I found a pair of black semi-brogue Barkers in remarkably good condition for £8.50 from a charity shop, which I have polished to a very good shine and they are so comfortable. Then today a vintage tan Gianni Conti tuscany leather briefcase for just £30 from one of those vintage emporiums, and it still has the key. Gorgeous briefcase, incredibly practical and so beautifully made. Finding top quality pre-owned when you're not even looking for anything specific really puts the fun back into shopping.
The fun is in the hunt.
I love the santos and I’m in the market for another white dial watch but I think the new white dial omega speedmaster pips the santos for me
I bought the Trickers boots on your recommendation at a discount from their factory shop and I agree - I would happily pay full price to replace them.😊
Thank you for another year of outstanding stuff😊
I went a bit made this year.
Barbour Beaufort in navy.
Two pairs of loake shoes. I pair of loake boots. I pair Cheaney shoes in museum leather.
Barbour gilet, wellies and cap.
A turnbull and asser linen shirt.
Pair of Peter Christian cords.
I turned 70 and wanted to get a few clothes that will see me through my old age.
Awesome choices sir.
@ Thank you. The majority of my purchases are down to advice from your channel.
2024 I invested heavily in my wardrobe - 8 tweed jackets (all vintage but in mint condition) , a made-to-measure Suitsupply wool-silk-linen summer suite and quite a few pairs of footware. The biggest investment though went to British-made shoes and boots - brown Crockett & Jones Isley boots, black Triclers Harry Dealer boots, dark brown Loake Emsworth Chelsey boots, quite a few pairs of shoes from Loake, Barker, Grenson.
I also got some beautiful Aran cable knit wool and merino wool sweaters from Ireland.
It was a heavy investment but for every item I had a good deal either as factory seconds, pre-owned or some good discount. All the items are from reputable producers and really high quality and should out last me. My wardrobe is a capsule one so I have endless combinations and don't have to put any money or effort into it for years to come other than maintenance.
To be honest, your UA-cam channel (and few others) had a huge input to all of this. Thanks a lot and have an even better year 2025!
Agree. You vote and support year-round with your purchases.
My 2024 purchases:
- Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller Mid Century Walnut Lounge Chair and Ottoman
- Viberg Service Boots in their 2030 last made in B.C., Canada with Winter Smoke regency calfskin tanned by the UK's C.F. Stead
- Hand-forged Japanese Bunka knife in Aogami Super Blue carbon steel
- Larch wood end-grain cutting board from Larch Wood Canada
- Braun Series 9 Pro + wet/dry electric foil shaver with all the bells and whistles, along with Speick pre-electric lotion, Jack Black shave lube and Cremo after shave
Happy New Year!
Thank you Ash for another reflective video.
LANXSHOES Bayley (Navy) - Made in Lancashire!

Mine (discounted)
-Barbour Beaufort
-Baracuta Harrington
-Spier Mackay Linen/cotton Sportsjacket
-Spier Mackay wool/silk/linen Field Jacket
-Nudie raw indigo jeans
Tried
-navy shawl collar cardigan (full price 😂) but will definitely upgrade in future
For 2025, maybe buy one
-end game shoe (Alden Tassel or Crockett Jones Islay
-Filson zip tote bag
-Chore coat or Overshirt for summer layering
My favorite purchase is probably my crocket and jones islay boot this year followed closely by my mtm gray flannel 3 piece suit
I got my first pair of Trickers boots this year, oxblood brogues, the upgrade compared to my Loakes & Grensons is astonishing, l don't think l've worn them without somebody asking what they are.
Same here. They are God-tier!
Re: Habit Rouge. I’ve owned several bottles. Marvelous stuff, but I sense it’s best worn on an evening out with a suit and a beautiful woman on your arm. There’s another scent that fits into that ecological niche I’m fond of and since you’re a collector you might look into - Le Troisieme Homme by Caron.
You know their “Pour un Homme?” That was a “blueprint” for this. It’s got lavender and vanilla, all right, but some florals, citrus, and a solid base of moss and leather.
And there’s a pun in the name. It’s the third male scent in their line so they named it after the Orson Welles character, and it’s what might be worn by a raffish gentleman of fortune.
I have started purchasing more home decor and health and wellness products in 2024. I feel it makes me feel better day to day more so than buying clothes and shoes
A nice silk square from Rampley & Co was one of my better purchases (but I lost it) and some quality socks from Cordings of Piccadilly.
I finally bought my hobnailed boots from heritage footwear maker WILLIAM LENNON in Derbyshire. They are a delight to have, they do not break the bank either and I really like that "clicking" noise I make when walking down the street.
Loving the Trickers I have many pairs and top quality. and Cartier is on the list, just a bit worried about scratches
Ash, I own a pair of those Sanders hi-tops in polo snuff suede that you are interested in. Lovely looking boots but ones that I don't wear often - I've found that the crepe soles disintergrate quite quickly and become very 'sticky' for some reason.
Sanders also makes the Chesham, which has the same upper as the famous Hi-top, but is Goodyear welted to a studded rubber sole from Itshide Commando. This might be the perfect balance between the style you are after and the practicality and longevity of a Dainite-style sole. Also, they are on sale right now on the factory website! Maybe a late holidays present to yourself? Go on... I'd love to see a review of them on the channel!
Looks like your son has your sense of style!😅👍
Happy 2025!
Nice Cartier, I myself got one this year, but the Ballon Bleu got my eye more than the Santos.
Ash, I bought some ready made T&A Shirts a few years ago.
The material 100% Eygptian Cotton. The Collars always seemed to have too much material in them and overall very hard to Iron.
Being an Ex Guardsman I can Iron a shirt.
Perhaps try a ready-made before going bespoke.
My philosophy exactly. Even Doc Martens, I only buy the shoes that are made in England. I think its easier to buy "made in UK", then it is in US. You really have to dig and read the labels here. When you do buy "made in US/UK" it makes you feel good. The bonus is that the presentation that the item comes in is always superior. Ok, to get off my soap box. Does wax cotton items have a smell about them and do you have to treat annually?
Absolutely just bought made in England Docs
Habit Rouge has such a unique scent, I have both the original and the Eau de Parfum.
Interestingly i just passed up an Explorer and bought an Aqua terra Small Seconds instead. I always wanted an Explorer but just found the proportions off and it was a bit boring. The Omega has far more about it and is a great daily driver
You propably know this that Bond wore Sanders & Sanders chukka boots in "Spectre" in the London scenes at the end?
I actually bought the after I found out about this. They are very comfortable, but not very durable. I was wearing them for the 3rd time when their sole came. You should watch a video about them in the "The Bond experience" chanel.
Trickers Boots are very nice. I don't even mind that good quality boots are slightly under £600 (I own something similar for the last 5-6 years now the Crockett & Jones Dark Brown Scotch Grain Islay Boot, cost about £510 back then, I think they have gone up to £620-ish now) because if I look after them like polish them before use, dry and clean after use, use wooden shoe trees while on the shoe rack they will see the duration of my life, even when the hard wearing dainite sole starts to wear out, i can either sent them back to crockett&Jones for a sole replacement or get the local cobbler to do it and they come back looking brand new. Boots for life essentially, well worth the money, far better than buying £100+ trainers once or twice a year every year.
i love Trickers - and i bought 2 pairs of boots this year (my first by them, tho, i bought my lady a pair the other Christmas..)..
my first pair was the ethan monkey boots red funchal with a white sole - perfect for the summer and they were reduced to £375, and at the beginning of december i bought a pair of Stow country boot in the red calf with the dainite soul, again they were reduced to 375 - but when i paid there was a black friday reduction of 20% which took them down to £300...real bargain and a true statement boot! they'll get even better when they patina a bit..
they still have a sale on now..
and as you know i have 2 &sons carver jackets (think i mentioned them to you?) - tan and green...love them both, but the green one goes really well with my new boots!
Great choices sir, and great prices too.
Happy 2025
Happy New Year to you sir
Great video Ash. Totally agree re buying British. I waa looking at a pair of boots by Grenson in kudu. Have you any experience of that leather? Thanks.
Kudu is the leather of an African antelope and is highly prized in shoe production due to its qualities. Very good leather if you can get it.
I'd recommend the Church's Ryder III desert chucka. Worn by Daniel Craig in the Bond movies.
I never knew that was Sean Connery's bond scent. I will need to try that. I have just purchased Lalique pour homme (Lion). Be good to hear your thoughts on that scent (if you have any experience with it). Thanks
I do have some Lalique scents.
I think all waxed cotton jackets are made in South Shields (not only the heritage collection), all other clothing items are made in Asia.
Only a small number are UK made these days. Most are produced in Vietnam, etc. Only the Heritage collection are still UK made.
How does the olympic sweater compare to the arthur beale pullover you reviewed ?
The Olympic is more refined, more appropriate for normal daily use. The AB sweater is truly a magnificent piece, but perhaps more useful in extreme conditions. The AB sweater is also oiled wool, so it feels slightly slick and smells of the countryside (lanolin).
Appreciate the detailed breakdown! I need some advice: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). Could you explain how to move them to Binance?
No sir, sadly I cannot.
Chap, while in factory have you asked why Trickers do not nail their heels?
No, I did not.
@ new question for future visit::D
Happy New Year Ash! Thanks for all your work on the channel.
Happy new year!
Bought some garlic from my local shop. Found out after getting home it was from China! Can't get away from the buggers.
I turn 60 next year and I understand what you mean when you talk about not wanting to buy unnecessary things. In the last few years my style has changed. I want to look smart but casual. I look around and see men my age wearing baseball caps, slogan t-shirts and sporting tattoos & it just looks pathetic to me. They're dressing like teenagers. I'm not as formal or as traditional as you but I'm now buying quality clothes that will last decades and will always be in style. I'm building a minimalist wardrobe comprising of well made items.
Watches are my weakness. I buy too many, but I'm in the affordable end of the hobby so we're talking brands like Seiko. Are you opposed to buying Japanese? The problem we have today is that somewhere down the line, some part of what you buy was probably manufactured or sourced in China. Not many people realise that two thirds of components in Ferraris are actually Chinese. People think they're buying an Italian thoroughbred, but are they?
I agree with you. I am not buying products from China. I buy Made in the USA or England.
Fantastic fantastic
“Lived experience“
As opposed to your dead experience?
I have a one in one out policy on clothing purchases. How about joining me Ash?
I wish I could, I tend to have an annual clear out and cut away the pieces I have not worn for 24-months. I am very brutal and really do release about a quarter of my wardrobe each year.
Let me throw in a short question: Do you consider Germany as a allied country to the UK.
Very much so - a very close ally.
@TheChapsGuide That reassures me. I remember you mentioned/recommended a pair of outdoor pants produced by Schöffel in a recent video.
Please continue your excellent work. I use your videos i. a. to improve my pronunciation in English.
I love Rolex watches however they are not the wholly grail. When I was a young lad and just getting into watches, I asked someone very experienced and it was simple, ‘what in your opinion are the best watches’. He didn’t even think about it, Cartier. Even the boxes were made by hand back then. There is none that suits my lifestyle though. Ive worn an issue CWC G10 since 1986!
It's holy grail not wholly grail
@ your quite right. Auto correct!
@@Doubleoseven502 Fair enough.
I wonder if the outdoor company who make the knitwear do any knits which are not adorned with ugly, immature, bright red logos on their arm?
It’s all in the perception of the logo. It relates to the origin story of the model and is rather fetching in my view. But judging my the tone of your comment, I suspect you feel differently.
Bang on feck chyna .
I try to buy groceries local, other items national, if not available from europe ( U.K. is european 😅).. or other allies.. why should I fund our systemic opponent?
💪 🇩🇪🇬🇧🇫🇷🇺🇸🇺🇦
You say you're not going to buy anything from China because they're not a friendly state, to which I agree, but the biggest threat to our culture, heritage, lifestyle & future lurks within Number 10 Downing Street.
That is the consequence of a democracy. Your preferred team does not always win - sometimes the team you dislike has a record-breaking win - but you get the chance to pick another team in 5-years.
@@TheChapsGuide It doesn't matter who you vote for. They're all just puppets controlled by the WEF. Westminster is theatre and you really think we live in a democracy? Wake up man!
I'm a watch collector/enthusiast but I won't be drawn into the luxury watch cult. How is that £6k Cartier superior to a sub £300 watch? A ten quid Casio f91w is far more accurate, far tougher, more comfortable to wear and far more reliable. For a dress watch you can't beat a 38mm Orient Bambino. It looks far nicer than that Cartier in my opinion, it's reliable and it costs about £250. The 'luxury' aspect of watches like Cartier is just clever marketing.
The same argument can be had about Aston Martin cars and Nissan cars. They both do the same thing, but one is more valuable due to its heritage and quality. It’s a matter of the depth of your pocket!
@@TheChapsGuide That's true but the problem today is finance. I doubt many Aston Martins or luxury watches are bought for cash. Deeper pockets or deeper debt? And let's be realistic, it's ego driven. No one died because of Aston Martin deficiency or Patek Philippe starvation.
indeed, but the desire to have a better life and own luxury items drives entrepreneurial spirit. It’s not a negative thing to be successful in life. Penury is not penance, it is failure.
the only thing i had that was made in uk , use be my dr martens boots , and iven thows for the price are a rip off , i prefer stuff made in italy , quality is good and price is reasonable , and don t have any problems buy stuff made in china , since they have become wery good lately since majority of companys made ther suff ther , they have become as good or better than europian or american made ,, at much better price ,
“Lived experience” is a woke term which should be avoided by a gentleman.
But Ash, if you buy two items of Chinese crap, you get your choice of egg roll or won ton soup. BTW do you think Chinese soup actually weighs won ton? Sounds like an exaggeration to me. Handsome kid by the way.
What a dumb watch trade. You should of got the Explorer 2 if anything
Paid Promotions!
Absolutely not. All purchased and used by me
Good morning Ash, Chaps
Back to routine for Saturday. It is Saturday isn't it? I think we're all a tad "Dayslexic" currently.
I think I made 1 purchase this year, a vintage (1989) CWC G10 watch.
For next year 🤔 I don't know what to plan as a major part of my life drops away.
🫡
Hiya, all very persosnal choices of course and your own preferences : Barbour bit - fab.
Trickers bit - fab.
Rolex bit - thou protests too much sir and, even though i prefer Omega, have you lost your mind lol. Knitwear bit - always too warm for me (I think I'm a neandertal lol). The rest - ok :-). I always enjoy your videos and the associated passion. Regards Gee
