This was the best French course I have ever taken. I came across my books and wondered if the tapes were still available. I am grateful to the person who put these on UA-cam. Thank you.
J'ai étudié le français il y a trois ans, j'ai adoré cette vidéo, très bonne, pour les étudiants de langue française. Merci d'avoir posté cette vidéo. Je suis brésilien.
There are many factors in studying French quickly . One resource I discovered that succeeds in merging these is the Magic Language Method (look for it on google) definately the most incredible resource that I have ever heard of. Look at all the super info .
The way the actors portray personality types you'd come across in France is spot on , also the fact that it does not patronise the learner and is realistically enacted is great too.
Probably the best ever French language course on BBC... ever. What's happened over the past 30 years... The BBC used to produce brilliant German, Spanish and Italian courses too... They were always supported by equally superb radio broadcasts too. The next stages I think were Sur le vif and Allez France. Also Franc Parler, France Extra and A vous la France. Learnt so much French from these superb courses.
The BBC today is a whore of the free market, the BBC of the seventies was more or less what it has always claimed to be. A public broadcaster , I would not have minded paying a licence fee to get stuff like this. However the BBC is far beyond repair today and should be sold all of its archives released into the public domain.
I came across these videos last summer and made my son watch them before he started taking French in high school. I can honestly say that he learned a lot from this video course. Thank you so very much for sharing! As a teacher of foreign languages myself, I really admire how these lessons are made; without much efforts one picks up vocabulary, reading tips, correct pronunciation, and a bit of grammar. Brilliant! I actually liked this course so much that I bought the book to go with it. From the book, I learned that there was also a cartoon and a soap opera to go along the book as well as a radio course (tapes). I wish I could get all of them. By the way, the actress who plays Madame Dupont in the very first skit played two French-speaking characters in the famous British TV show "Upstairs Downstairs".
This series is honestly pretty good... language chunking, grammar in context, some repetition and comprehensible input aka everything modern language teaching tries to focus on. Definitely ahead of its time.
I participated in this course through the radio & TV shows, bought the books & LPs (which I still have), attended classes at the local adult education college in Peterborough, England, did a "total French" weekend with other students & Elma Soiron in attendance - and finished up by taking the examination. I scored "one" in all categories (the highest grade). I might well have won the prize - a trip to France - but at that time, we finally managed to sell our house & moved to the U.S.A. I never found out who won. We did take a couple of trips to France & I was able to make myself understood well. I have to say that before taking this course in French, I had 2 yrs. of Latin in school & several of Spanish. That helped, plus my natural ability to learn languages. Great shows, great experience.
These is hands down the best videos on learning French. It's so easy to follow , could understand 90% of the conversation with ease. the pronunciation was clear and I was cracking up through the entire clip.
These tapes are a tremendous instructional for french beginners as myself.I must thank you sir immensely for sharing, This is yet the best Methode de francais I ever came across and still use today for practising French
Thank you! Found my "French in Action" videos to watch again, and now these, which I didn't see originally, are a great addition. Really appreciate the uploads!
Probably the best ever series for beginners to learn French... followed by Sur Le Vif and Allez France... all from the BBC. Television, video and cassette tape, books alongside radio. After an awful French language learning experience at school I decided to follow this series through to Allez France... language teaching methods at schools could have learnt a lot from this brilliant BBC series. Sadly there is nothing like it anymore on TV or radio...
Thank you so much for posting these videos. Not only are they very helpful for learning French, but they are extremely cool and stylish, such a fun to watch:) What a shame you only have these tapes left...
+altemaedchen here's a few tips for how to learn French Decide precisely why you wish to speak it Try to speak French everyday Decide which method works for you the best. (I read about these and more on Mirykal french plan site )
still trying to learn French in 2023. I started in 2021 during the pandemic. Will I ever speak the language? Je ne sais pas!!! Maybe... I´ll keep going... Thanks for the videos... Au revoir!!!!
This is excellent much better then the modern travel loge type programs that have passed for language courses in recent years which are just aimed at middle class consumers.
+Sara Carrillo He said "Oh zut alors" which means "damn" in a polished way (14:56) and "alors ce n'est pas Chartre ? (15:02)" which means "So this is not Chartres ? (the name of a french town near Paris) --> look google maps if you want to see :)
Carolle Rousseau. She was in the BBC TV series Tenko, season 2, in the early 1980s and I think in a British TV series called "Crossroads" in the 1970s.. Currently Tenko is being repeated on one of the British Freeview channels.
