Yes, PBS and NPR are among the very few outlets that are journalistically responsible. That's why this is the first time I have ever listened to Ann Coulter. It was ....... interesting.
Im guessing some of you guys only started paying attention to the news media after 2015. The news media gets these wealthy establishment elites to show up on their program by being nice to them.None of these wealthy people would show up if they were just going to get heckled the entire time, let’s be real

We need more of this in Media. Let people have a discussion in long form instead of sound bites. Thanks PBS. Thanks Ann for being on and sharing your thoughts.
I saw both interviews with Steve Bannon. In the actual documentary they made, they took a statement Bannin said about Trump and made it look like he was talking about Obama...
@@markuhlman3767 it's almost like PBS knows it's doing wrong with that documentary and is doing penance by leaving these wonderful unedited interviews up
Except when interviews like this don´t get the views. Show me the Fox viewer ("mainstream media lies!") who follows with interest a one hour discussion. It´s up to us consumers. Since we don´t read newspapers anymore, they struggle. It´s all about supply and demand, and these days the demand is on Tiktok format.
I strongly disagree, he just knows overtalking and interrupting Ann like other liberal media sources do to their guests just equals lower ratings and wont stop people from voting red!!
Before seeing this interview, I only saw Ann in short interviews and I always thought she was going for controversy and shocking people. And here, she is given plenty of time to answer without being interrupted. And I'm really surprised on how well spoken, intellectual, and how her responses make so much sense. I'm also really surprised that she is critical of both sides of the political spectrum. And yet I always thought she was after the left and never the right. Well said Ann.
@@goodguy5595 Definitely. You want to do research on your own and draw your own conclusions. I'm just saying its fascinating to see Ann in a different light then what I am used too.
That's not a 'good' thing. Giving a rambling idiot a platform is not 'journalism'. A good intervierwer will allow the person to say what they want, but then will hold them to fire to back up their bullshit (or fail to do so).
Fully agree- but I think that's where people don't know what they are consuming- journalism is one thing and opinion host/debate shows are another- the problem is that too many people think opinion hosts and debate shows are news! Goes back to grade 8- know your sources.
Faithin Verity now consider why is it you held this misconception for so many years if not a decade? What was it about how you had these thoughts that were so misaligned with reality? What was it about you that allowed yourself to believe the collective slander and lies that have been always towards a conservative successful independent woman like Ann Coulter? Now imagine how the media and those that live in insulated isolated coastal bubbles do this with everything else. This was just one woman that lead you to have a misconception held for multiple years. And you believed such lies with very little reported on her, from a few vitriolic hateful slanderous words. Now imagine an actual concerted effort, and how much it brainwashes those on the left..
I think I've only been aware of her existence since 2016. And by opinion has been formed based on what I've heard he say, until now. These interviews are remarkable in a couple of dimensions: 1) the answers are shockingly candid 2) the answers are shockingly similar 3) the interviewers are well informed
Faithin Verity I don’t think you’re being entirely honest with yourself and how much your own biases has kept you from reality like in this instance. But that’s no surprise. It requires a healthy level of willful ignorance and cognitive dissonance to buy into a swath of lies and multigenerational failed policies.
John Wolf you’re sorely wrong and misguided in whatever idea is floating around in that low IQ brain of yours. Seems like you’re guilty of attempting to do what you’re stating here. How about you work on yourself before opening that dumb entitled mouth of yours?
Ann is EXTREMELY intelligent. She sees almost everything, and has the ability to give wide perspective of things. Wish she could be an adviser to the President's cabinet. Deep down she does seem to love our country and wants to see the common people succeed.
Douglas Smith whoa, slow down there Doug. She’s got a good pulse on the people in office and an understanding of populism but that doesn’t mean it’s a good understanding of policy and governing. She’s an author, and by definition, makes her money from her celebrity and sales.
Well, it's a program on PBS. Aren't they supposed to reflect the beliefs of the "public"? What is sad is that people are amazed that they are doing their publicly funded job, which is what they were supposed to be doing all along.
Goes to show that you Fox News viewers don’t know anything about PBS. Because they inform and deal with facts, and sometimes those facts reveal some negatives about the Republican Party, Fox News criticizes, but as a progressive, I love unbiased reporting, well researched reporting and programs, and I can make my own conclusions. Watch PBS and read the Christian Science Monitor and you’ll be better informed.
@@impitt28 in fox viewers defense, they chopped up this interview and put ominous sound effects in while talking about trump. Goog on pbs for releasing the long form interviews though
Thank you for the long format interview. It’s helpful to hear a person speak in a non-sound bite format. It’s also helpful when the interviewer isn’t simply trying to argue their position. I’m impressed that this station would do this type of interview.
Coming here as a progressive, socialist loving, British gay male. Not one to usually comment, but bravo to PBS for this great show. It’s striking to me that when stripped back to fundamental principles, Ann’s beliefs in this interview aren’t too far from mine. Ann speaks beautifully, and I appreciated her take on political adversaries. She’s provided a great example here of how to discuss conflicting ideas without the venomous attacks and intensity that’s become the norm, both in US and UK culture. I am usually cautious of listening to interviews like this because of the ‘them-versus-us’, personal and divisional attacks aimed, but I admire Ann’s respect, humour and humanity in this video. Even with views that I didn’t like or support, Ann’s research to support her argument has reminded me of compassion and reasoning that’s missing in today’s age of free speech. Less of the blame game, less vitriol, but holding people to account when appropriate. A willingness to engage and listen to counter arguments is important, and I enjoyed questioning my own views while watching. I think humility is missing in today’s political arena, and I thank Ann for adding to my hope for more harmonious government practises. X
Obama's cabinet was selected by CitiBank, Wikileaks told us that. So all the Democrats and Republicans were really happy with the bailouts. It is us independents that were angry.
Chad Allen it’s because Democrats tell people one thing, promises them things will change, lies to them telling them what to think in some weird white liberal ethnocentric way... it’s always privileged white democrats telling minorities what to think, telling them they are victims, telling them who their enemies are, and only did this since 1960’s in order to gain their votes while doing nothing to improve their lives.
If you understand that the pillars of economy are the availability of credit and interest, its really not hard to see why the bailouts were a necessary evil.
@@cartesian_doubt6230 And don't forget multimillion $ bonuses for the guys that caused the crash. In exchange for the bailouts, at the very least, people should have gone to jail instead of getting assloads of free cash for committing innumerable crimes. This interview is almost a throwback in terms of balance and style. I was thinking back to an old Malcolm X interview with several people who politically ( and probably racially ) hated him and yet the interview -on both sides-was extremely civil and revealing. Not to mention memorable. Listening without posturing is the only way any real conversation can take place.
YEs he is a lazy narcissist AND he doesn't want a wall..the only positives he has gotten done is expansion of the economy, showing the central admin of the EU, China, N Korea, and Iran for the paper tigers they really are, and the limitations on Muslim immigration...that's it...good things but his number one promise to build the wall he doesn't want to get done...that is it.

@Mike Delmore It’s just another reason why I don’t watch PBS. Why is PBS interviewing Ann Coulter? I try to tell people that the mainstream media has a bias for republicans, but they think I am crazy.

Even the way the questions were framed revealed the biased assumptions of the interviewer although he did allow an uninterrupted response.
@@MrAquinas1 I see republicans on the mainstream media almost every week, not just Fox News. Why did PBS edit a Jill Stein video when she is a far left person? The mainstream media wants us to vote for republicans like Donald Trump and democrats like Eric Adams.
@@ronaldramos5541 I wasn’t objecting to interviewing Ann Coulter, I was calling out republicans who think that the mainstream media is against republicans.
It’s crazy how much groupthink influences us. I like to think of myself as a very free thinker, but even I had a negative impression of Coulter. I was very wrong. That said, this long format is just 100% better than the short interview format of most media and she’s is purposefully provocative in those interviews.
I can't believe Frontline would ever give a conservative an unbiased interview. Just come here to see if it is for real, and leave. Won't waste my time with Frontline - to much bias.
Ann Coulter is knowledgeable, intelligent and has a developed perceptive on how and why politics deserves our attention. She has certainly helped open my eyes.
Yeah right. She is a republican who says things so she gets attention. Your comment is clearly shill, maybe even bought by Anm herself it is so positively unrealistic.. and Ann is a realist so youd gotta be ignorant to ignore my facts
@@nodozhit Town hall forums are a terrible idea. They need a credible interviewer who takes the subject matter seriously and does their homework, and is sufficiently empathetic that they can create a comfortable feeling for the interviewee. It's going to be incredibly difficult for PBS to accomplish this unless they support journalism that has empathy for the worldviews of citizens who live outside the coastal cities.
I’m a center-left libertarian type myself, and I thoroughly enjoyed this interview. While Ms. Coultier and I may disagree on some things, it is refreshing to hear how much liberals and conservatives have in common. I think we all realize that we are living in a nation that does not work for working class people, but our methods for getting to a solution may be different.
Great interview. As was Oxford Union. It's good to hear Ann without usual howling opponents. Also, how much she goes after Republicans. Her analysis is hard to resist.
Do keep in mind though, her stances are old antebellum high society racism. Polite racism. She is right about how the media handled donald. She doesn't seem to understand the constitution its amendments, or how the legislative body attempts to prevent said abuses. She thinks trump can just racist practices into existence with the swipe of a pen. 😆 😆 for a political pundit she seems to not get how things work. Its odd.
@@jusded6803 The 'everyone who disagrees with me is racist' argument does not convince anyone; and is intellectually lazy. There are legitimate criticisms of the right you could learn and articulate but that would take effort on your part.
Jsyk I am a Republican (more concerned with my views than the party but for the sake of making the point in this paradigm I am the party opposite of you) and I don't discount the importance of statements like that from opposing camps (potentially). I do the same as it relates to Democrats when I agree with what is being said or done. I am not with that whole it can't be a D and I will support it even if I agree 💯. I won't hesitate to say I like Tulsi Gabbard and much if what she stands for, some of Elizabeth Warren's sentiments, old Bernie sentiments and James Trafficant. And forever and always non-interventionist sentiments from anyone on the left. I canexpound and get more particular with my views and the connections to the prior statements but to keep it simple I very much like the ability for parties and coalitions to pop up in Europe so much easier there (really at all because they can't here).
Curtis Forbes in depth interviews are the best. I agree with much of what Ann writes about the more I see what she talks about. I was listening to Victor Davis Hanson talk about the town he was raised in and how it’s changed, deteriorated, over the years and the huge numbers of illegals, and gang bangers. He talks about how the area was family farms and manufacturing, friends would graduate high school and get great jobs and how it was all wiped out with globalization, illegal immigration and a bankrupt state. Often I don’t even recognize the town I spent 35 years living and working in, Santa Barbara. I walk around on the Westside and it looks like Mexico or some other Central American country.
Hey. Quit identifying by party. These parties do not represent you. They represent alternate desires and needs. Therefore you need to vote by what the country needs most at that time. Each party has its strengths and weaknesses. In 2008 we needed a Democrat to reverse some if the toxic shit that Bush did. In 2016 we needed a republican to reverse some of the toxic shit Obama did. I'm very liberal and I absolutely love Ann Coulter. Regardless of what you may think of her, she's not afraid to state what she wants, but does so with eloquence. Moreover, she doesn't necessarily side with an individual based on their political party, she's very independent in that sense.

@Vlodec that Trump isn't a genius he just picked up the 1000 dollar bill on the floor. Many not all but a large majority of white Americans feel that between the robots and the immigrants we don't have a prayer. She is right that giving mass citizenship to millions of immigrants like Regan did creates even more imigration. She is right if Trump doesn't build that Wall he's gone.
@Vlodec it's seems like your the narrow minded one. Many white Americans are sick of illegal immigration on our dime. Remember - PBS is publicly funded by our tax dollars.
These PBS frontline interviews are tremendously well done. Goes to show to the american people what it really means to have a PUBLIC service. Private services are way more biased than anything and all about getting that clickbait. This just gives everyone a space to speak and explain their point of view. Brilliant job by the interviewer. That said, from this lady and Bannon, I get their basic understanding of marxism (that is all that story about bigger worker pools lowering wages) and their nationalism (our policies must protect the american worker) but they fail to recognize that there is an underlying power struggle in the system.. that will always push back.. doesn't matter the banner you are behind and that is capitalism.

And therein lies the problem--why he isn't doing anything about immigration despite the fact that he had the House and Senate and, according to Ann, has executive power! He is not representing the people, he's representing himself and he is a member of the Oligarchy. I refuse to believe that Ann is not intelligent enough to make this connection. Maybe she's too afraid to say it herself so is trying to get us to draw that conclusion?
Conservatives have ability to disagree , Democrats lynch or cancel people with whom they disagree.. they can't debate anymore, just cancel everyone calling racist bla bla..
@@politicalflashback.880 i strongly disagree with this. mostly because 1 conservatives rarely disagree. we have seen this over the past 4 years; anything trump said became gospel and no one would dare dissent. meanwhile 2 we are never seeing people get canceled for having dissenting opinions among dems. there is MUCH more variety of beliefs among the democrats which is frankly why it’s hard to unify like conservatives do. and we are open to call out our own. conservatives do none of this and are monolithic. they will throw out all of their opinions as to fit the status quo. why do you think ann has to speak in select interview venues and we haven’t seen much of her? because she doesn’t agree with current republicans and calls them out.
@@politicalflashback.880 That's the dumbest comment I've ever read.

All interviews should be conducted this way. You really get a good picture of the person for who he/she really is.

She's absolutely right about immigration, and for that I'm willing to believe everything else she says. The wealthy don't care if they reduce the working class to 3rd world poverty, because the wealthy are gods in the 3rd world.
I remember 35 years ago when I didn't see nearly as many Hispanics and other non whites. The minimum wage was $2.25 then four years later it went to $2.35, you're gonna blame low wages on immigrants? You must be f*cking kidding, you must be!
@@michaelbyrd7883 if you can't figure out basic economics you shouldn't be a part of the conversation. More cheap labor = stagnant wages. Its simple supply and demand. This is why corporate America has pushed for mass migration for the last 30 years.
Seriously? She wants to tax receipts! That is asinine!
Love how Ann Coulter speaks her mind and heart !!
@Rick Ramirez The shallow-minded always confuse speaking the Truth with Evil.
@Rick Ramirez Yep, she has no compassion for those who willfully violate our nation's immigration laws and impose themselves on our country, all the while demanding sympathy and our tax dollars. Granted, the children of the illegal invaders simply went along with the wrong choices of their parents. However, a sane nation cannot take in everyone, and we've reached a point where we've got to say NO! Besides, I don't want to become an alien in my own land any more than the Japanese want to be overtaken by anglos, blacks, Chinese or any other racial or ethnic identity.
I know things are BAD when i find myself-for the first time ever- agreeing with A.Coulter.
No... She's exactly the same. Lol You are just waking up and realizing that you have been badly manipulated to not even consider listening to certain ppls opinions (bc they're so powerful). So congrats on being open to outside opinions and don't stop! It's the best way to figure out what your actual opinions are lol hearing BOTH sides. Scary to the MSM bc the truth IS on our side. They made me dislike her for no reason too but I have been red pilled for almost 4 years now and now she's like my hero!
Yes its really disconcerting listening to ANN COULTER and not fuming at every word out of her mouth. Still think she',s a racist immigrant hypocrite though, out for a racially heirachichal America when her forebears were immigrants.

He doesn't really have a future beyond the US Senate.

You know, FRONTLINE has always impressed me - even when it's interviewing people I really don't like or care for (like Bannon and Coulter), they do it in such a fair way and they bring down the level of antagonism and animosity and you can actually LEARN something about who these people are and how they work. Again, I don't like her or Bannon, but now I get a better sense of how they operate and they at least seem less crazy. Coulter is actually surprisingly independently-minded. Good work, Frontline.
So if you are truly on the workers side.. then.. you only really have one thing to be and that is the Red Scare.
I remember watching her on Real Time and listened to everyone laughing at her and thought, “Oh my god, she’s exactly right.” She wasn’t telling you what she wanted/preferred, just what people were all going to do. She’s more in the middle than she lets on, most people are in the middle on politics.

Not really. I’ll give you that she’s animated and very passionate, but passion often stifles policy statistics when she cant remember exact numbers to back her clearly pointed bias on given issues. She can’t even conjure up Trumps more popular trumpism’s when put on the spot. If you’re wanting to see Coulter under better light, simply tune into her visits on Real Time with Bill Maher. Her true colors often come out when exposed to her own bullshit. And that’s coming from someone who tends to agree with s lot she has to say.

@apx. pegasus Exactly. There is a huge incentive for bureaucrats to take their slice - or more than that, such that the "intended" recipients get very little. As Milton Friedman said (paraphrasing): "There is no such thing as a temporary government program". The supporting bureaucracy grows and begins to immediately focus on self-perpetuation, and even if the result of the program is totally inadequate, the solution is always that it needs more money to be successful. Yes, and murder is against the law however people still kill other people. She actually believes that all you have to do is enforce the law and people will fall right in line and follow them. This is why intelligent people dont listen to Ann. She understands the issue however she doesnt understand people. The Founders understood this because they knew the problem wasn't with the law the weakness and unstable issue of any system is the irrationality of the people who are subject to and/or responsible for enforcing it.

I don't agree with her politically on many issues, but I wish more people would do interviews like this with her. Its easy for people to just fight with her for a minute on a topic and either side can't finish their argument. This interview was really enlightening and was nice that she was able to answer the question, explain her thoughts so that the other side (me including in that) can understand what she's saying and where she's coming from.
