  • I finally got some time and now I'm preparing the engine from 2013 Audi S4 to be installed into my 2011 Audi S4. Very similar engine, but not 100% same. In this episode upper tensioners were replaced and engine timed.

    Did you replace the timing tensioner cover gaskets? I can’t find anywhere to order them

      The black covers? RTV sealant.

    Would this be able to be done with the engine in the car?

      I heard people’ve done it. But it’s highly cumbersome.

    Do you put the crank lock pin first before you remove the sprockets and all that?

    • @HETPEZB
      @HETPEZB  7 місяців тому

      Yes, that’s the first thing you do pretty much. It’s a starting point for all other measurements.

    What would happen if the timing marks for the camshaft intake and exhaust gears are not within the range? My shop says the exhaust gear is off by about 90 degrees. Car started and ran "fine", CEL P0018 G163 is active. Is there a way to know what damage has already been done?

      The next step would be to check the actual cams. If the cam is still installed correctly- it doesn’t matter how the exhaust cam gear is installed to be honest. If the actual cam position is off - borescope the cylinders on this side paying attention on the pistons surface as well as valves surface.

      Had the same fault, my Inlet sprocket on bank 2 was out 1 tooth retarded. I set it correct to dead on middle of the window and replaced the tensioner and small top guide piece. All is well.

    Ah come on, after you 'message from the future' in the last video I was expecting to hear at least a crank ...and in order to appear cheap, isn't it possible to replace just the plastic guides on the tensioners? But nice job so far!

      )))))) As far as I know the main problem with the tensioners are not the guides (however sometimes they too), but the ability to provide the proper tension. So the chain starting to rattle at first and then it can skip a tooth. Or two. But I cheap out anyway and didn't open the main cover to replace all the guides and tensioners, but just the upper ones. It's getting too expensive to do everything "while you are in there" - I needed to draw the line somewhere :)

    Hi , nice video . i am planning on doing this on my cgxc engine . Did you re use the cam gear bolts or do you have any part numbers by any chance ? And do you have any tips or tricks maybe ?

      @@HETPEZB thanks for the reply on an older vid . I have all the parts to do it now . I'm planning on doing it this weekend . Now I have a question that confuses me still . Do you lock the crank first or the camshafts ? I see both ways done and I don't know wich way is correct . Best regards

    • @HETPEZB
      @HETPEZB  Рік тому

      I would lock the crank first (making sure it’s properly locked), then release the tension on the chain and then lock cams.
